Oh gawd, Emerald China. I want to go eat there again so bad. In a perfect world, WABA never closed and we would of ate there two Saturdays ago. Sad days are sad...

Guys, GA Smash Scene is ******** right now. I dunno if it's just the summer or lack of venues or what but even the tournaments we have like Salt Mines aren't getting any attention. It's really sad because we've had like 3 new people post up on the boards here and be ignored when we should be clamoring to get them to go to a tournament but WHOA, no one here goes to tournaments anyways so I guess it would be hypocritical.

Something needs to be done but I don't know what. On the other hand, Alabama's scene seems to be taking off a bit which is convenient for us and amazing news for them. Their new idea with the Alabama Smash League is a GREAT idea and I'd like to see more support for it from GA. If you haven't heard about it, please check it out either on the boards http://www.smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=307742 or their website http://alabamasmashleague.com/ . I want to hear some your feedback about the idea in general too please.

Salt Mines is the next GA tournament and is this Saturday the 6th of August. The thread is http://www.smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=307484 and it's at our Lithonia venue. Please try to make it. I don't know what else to say.

I'd be going to Alabama if it were closer. I can only go 2 hours away. But, I'm up for anything if it's close.
Well, there will be a tournament in Phenix City (right next to GA) and one in Auburn (1 1/2 hours from atlanta, if that far).

We appreciate your support, Micaelis.

Thanks for the recommendations, but they're both too far. I'm actually closer to SC than Atlanta( or about the same distance) I can only go straight across Ga from my house and make it to Alabama in 2 hours. However, when I can drive it will be a different story.

Well, for example, we (Gamers Xperience) have attempted to start a leaderboard for the community.
No it wasn't perfect, however it was a starting point. We have mention it time and time, but continued to
be ignored. You could have just taken our ideal and tweaked it as needed.

Anyway, what needs to be asked is, what are the players in the GA Smash community looking for? What
do you need to be more driven? What do we need to do to make the community more relevant?

I honestly need more things to happen in Ga in official areas (not at someone's house)

I'm one of the new ones that moved to GA back at the end of April. My issue as to why I can't really attend anything is lack of money and transport. Doin' my best to get a job, then things will change. x.x

I really wish WABA never closed. ;-; You guys might not be aware of it, but in the interviews at HASL two people said that Waba was their favorite tournament ever. One of them being myself.

I still looking to hear what the community wants...

What does this community need to grow and/or become relevant?
Let expose the issues that the GA community has and then focus on the answers
to resolve these issues.

Answer to Question 1:
Efficient advertisement [Surprisingly Facebook works as well as Flyers]
Cost efficient tournaments
OoS incentive?
A way to start a series with a good turnout, and keep it that way. Giving ample enough of time, making hype videos and making a nice prize pool helps. Time is everything so don't do something under a month's notice, and ask the community of Atlantic South what times would be best. GA takes priority of course.

Also I'm not sure if you guys are really aware, but you've got quite a few people on other sites that live in GA but have no idea whats going on. I've already kind of helped one get his way here but I'm sure there are many more. Use a bit of time to update your Georgia group as I have my Alabama group. Find people, talk to them on sites like Brawl Friend Codes, Brawl Domain, and All is Brawl. Hell even a few lost people on odd deserted clan sites. Keep the word moving, it will help I'm sure.

Ok, first...

Efficient advertising, possibly on facebook. Where on facebook do we do this advertising?
Is there a way to reach out to Smash players directly or are you talking about just plan
facebook advertising and/or event posting?

Second... Cost efficient tournaments, what exactly do you mean by this?

I can answer a few of those questions, smithspot.

On facebook, I think it is prudent to utilize your GA smash group as much as you can. It has 76 members on it, so use it to advertise. You can also make facebook events for your tournaments, which tend to get the attention of more casual players better than posting them just on Smashboards does. You should also locate existing entities at universities that deal in video games. UAHuntsville has a LAN party that posts announcements for their events on facebook. We asked them to post to their members about our tournament (HASL), and several more people pre-registered after that happened. Those clubs can help you get the word out.

What does he mean by cost efficient tournaments? He means that, although the entry fee may only be $10, often times going to a tournament can cost upwards of $50 if you have to pay a venue fee, pay for doubles, buy gas, buy food, etc. With the current costs, only the most dedicated smash players come out to tournaments. By making things cheaper, you can increase accessibility for everyone and entice the more casual smash players to show up and learn to play competitively. There are a lot of different ways to do this. You can do what we did with the ASL or figure out another system you like better.

I just noticed the settings on the GA Smash facebook group are set to "Secret." That is one thing that really needs to be changed if you guys want to get more players to join. I can't even link allshort to it because of the settings.

My suggestion is just to run monthly tournaments because WABA and USGA's monthly tournaments always pooled in 30+ people. I think why it worked was because they advertised it as monthly tournaments and always had it on a set date every month like the 3rd saturday of the month was always a monthly tournament. So when they'd advertised it as "WABA Monthlies Brawl/Melee tournament every 3rd saturday of the month" so even random people on the street always knew, they wouldn't have to go online and look for it or anything they'd just KNOW that it was on that day every month. Get some fliers around the venue showing that also. Another thing I think would be good is to just have a thread for a monthly series always on route so the day after the monthly tournament is over then just go ahead and make the next thread so if there is ever some people looking for some GA tournaments there are no gaps while they're searching for one.

Also, I think advertising it to other customers that come into the store throughout the weeks by word of mouth will also be a good way to hype tournaments up, Smith.

I'll try to go too. I wonder if there's any chance I'll get a ride though. ._.

Just putting this out there, but I'm like right next to the Mall of Georgia. Hit me up if anyone that's going to Impact Clash is thinking of driving around that area en route to Atlanta.

I just realized since everyone is talking about how to make the community grow, why are none of the southern tournaments on Aib? No state, save Missouri, is representing on there. I'm going to check the other smash sites too just to make sure it's not just this one place.
Good point. Southern tournaments need to post their tournaments on AiB as well.

So some good news guys. Zeke is back in town from bootcamp and says he (and his music organization) is actually renting a building that is like a minute away from where the church was and says it's like 3 times bigger than that which also means we won't be having any complications with the church this time, it'll basically just be him running this.

Oh and btw, he said we'll be able to use the venue whenever we want as many times as we want :3, melee peeps are welcome to come also and organize your own stuff, you'll just have to run it by with me who will run it by with him.

That's great. I'll see if I can't work my way into TOing around the lower half of ATL and towards other places like Athens and Macon.

I know that song is all about trolling and haha but is it just me or is it actually really freaking catchy? I've always thought that, I just wanted to share it and explain why I sing it in the shower sometimes.

The new venue sounds pretty much too good to be true. We'll have to give Zeke something for this opportunity. I'll try to think of something good and useful perhaps.

Would anyone be interested in making a GA Smash Graphic the size of a piece of paper that we could print out and give to people to post up around college campus? Seems kind of silly but we need to advertise more and I need some people with good ideas and a little initiative to help out. PM me if you're interested.

Pool some money together and get something for the venue/Zeke. Personally, I'd like to try and get a projector screen, IDK if it'd be useful for the other things Zeke and his organization are trying to use it for (mostly teaching ppl to play instruments I think a few other things).

The 2nd picture is more professional; however, I would go with another font for "Salt" because it's not working with it in my opinion.

Yeah, it's fine. Still, experiment with other fonts and see what you can find. I'm asking because there are some other fonts that can be stylish while still being professionally readable.
