What about Star Fox?!Fans: Give us Mother 3!
Reggie: How about this instead?

Honestly this is a neat idea.Hey, you know what would be a great idea and also a heck of a gateway into Geno becoming a playable fighter? Spirit board unlocks.
"Wait, Oval, what are you talking about?"
Listen closely, friends. Characters can be unlocked either through the board or through matches in classic mode or whatever. What if we get characters that can exclusively be unlocked through WoL? Either through free updates or through perhaps a paid DLC pack a la Fighter's Pass, this concept is born. Freeing certain spirits in WoL will end up unlocking these spirits as actual fighters along with their spirit. People who have already beaten these fights will have the characters unlocked by default, but people who haven't will have to fight them to unlock them. These spirits are ones that were able to find their lost bodies and aid the cause to defeat Dharkon and Galeem.
Who better to kickstart that idea off with... than a character who is a spirit possessing a body in canon? Eh? Ehh?
I'm definitely digging those Yoshi's. Giving Mario and Luigi old-time Mickey Mouse eyes is a nice touch too.I found some very nice looking art on Twitter which has the boy

Dudette, I don't really know in that case. I'd say those would probably be just separate, misc. DLC characters then, if not free echoes (which Ninten wouldn't be great for, but let's be real, Nintendo unfortunately could do that).Honestly this is a neat idea.
But what if the character you want is a spirit board only spirit/isn’t in WOL? Glares at Ninten.
Eh, I don’t think being a spirit is an auto deconfirm (though I think most like the evolution ones are kinda screwed at least for this time around) so I still have hope for him and think he’s got a pretty good shot. Him being one of the last spirits added as well as being the only Mother 1 spirit to not be present in WOL was always kinda suspect to me.Dudette, I don't really know in that case. I love how unsubtlle Claus' spirit evolution and spirit battles are. It's a horrible spoiler but it's hilarious none the less. However Claus is in WOL and him being upgraded to fighter status even if he was just an echo would make me so happy you don’t even know.
Actually, Claus isn’t an evolution spirit. In fact he’s a neutral while Masked Man is an attack oddly enough.I love how unsubtlle Claus' spirit evolution and spirit battles are. It's a horrible spoiler but it's hilarious none the less.
Apart from Joker, I fear the DLC will be absolutely far from my tastes, too. It's not a smart business move to shove third parties into your game to appease them and putting your actual fans second. A balance of that should happen, with some catering to third parties and some love for the fans. I have a feeling Nintendo of Japan is not going to strike that balance.I know I am way late for the conversation because for some reason I am never notified when people post here anymore. But I have a gut feeling I will hate the entirety of the DLC choices.
Really? I could have sworn you could upgrade him to Masked Man once he hit level 99.Actually, Claus isn’t an evolution spirit. In fact he’s a neutral while Masked Man is an attack oddly enough.
Idk, a lot more people were happy with Joker getting in then I certainly expected.Apart from Joker, I fear the DLC will be absolutely far from my tastes, too. Pretty much, that's why my hopes are for misc. DLC and future waves. My hope for this particular Fighter's Pass is low-to-nothing.
Nope. In fact Claus is a legendary while Masked Man is an ace. None of the Mother spirits evolve now that I think about it...Really? I could have sworn you could upgrade him to Masked Man once he hit level 99.
Hard to shake the feeling we are going to be paying just to be advertised to.Apart from Joker, I fear the DLC will be absolutely far from my tastes, too. Oh no, don't get me wrong, Joker is a great and strong start, but that's the problem. With the other rumors and speculation going around, it's making me doubt the other four. If we get Erdrick, at least for me personally, he is a total hype-killer. That's if we get him. I'm starting to wonder and I'm kinda 50/50 on him.Idk, a lot more people were happy with Joker getting in then I certainly expected.
Not a bad mindset to have. Just make sure not to get too stuck in it.Oh no, don't get me wrong, Joker is a great and strong start, but that's the problem. So at this point, I'm kind of just rolling my eyes and setting my hopes to other horizons for now. If something great comes from the pass beyond Joker, I'll be very pleasantly surprised, but if not, then at least I steeled myself for it.
Not sure what you mean by too stuck in it, but if you mean by denying other peoples' hopes and thinking they're delusional for having faith in the pass, then goodness, no. People have every right to wish and dream the way they want, and I have no right to get into that, unlike a lot of other Smash fans who will **** down your throat for even daring to want someone who isn't extremely popular and relevant. (On that note, wanting =/= likelihood and whether they 'deserve' to be in or not, and Smash fans love to blur that line. You can want a character while acknowledging their low to nonexistent chances. Geno fans get a lot of flak for this in particular.)Not a bad mindset to have. Just make sure not to get too stuck in it.
Joker was pretty cool. The only choice that I would really question with what we know so far is Steve. Minecraft has its fans but I always thought the logical and emotionally satisfying idea was, "If we can put Banjo into Smash, we will." I'll have to wait and see because Steve was only considered out of Minecraft content rumors.Idk, a lot more people were happy with Joker getting in then I certainly expected.
I mean, logically Joker should fly into the faces of anyone who thinks Nintendo wont deliver some suitable content. A character that only really gained traction last year and had a relatively niche following becoming an incredibly hype character? Unexpected, pleasant, suitable. Who's to say we should start doubting Sakurai and Nintendo right now? Apathy towards Erdrick is reasonable, but I think we're losing interest in the DLC over tunnel-vision and pessimism.Apart from Joker, I fear the DLC will be absolutely far from my tastes, too. It was the second one. If you can recognize that you might be falling into that mindset, then that is good. Sucks that your want situation is the way it is and I can imagine how that can be difficult. Not sure what you mean by too stuck in it, but if you mean by denying other peoples' hopes and thinking they're delusional for having faith in the pass, then goodness, no. If you mean to the point of making myself more disappointed and depressed over how my most wanteds are likely not making it (for now), then... that's a valid point. I'm definitely falling into that pit, haha. I don't see any point in hyping beyond what we have in the base game in terms of roster, at least not for me. It's just gonna crush my heart in the end, given my most wanteds are an AT, a spirit, and a character whose series isn't even represented in Smash and lives mainly by fan demand alone.

Oh, Sakurai, I don't doubt. Even with some of his sketchier choices, he's kept Smash's fans in mind. I have a lot of faith in him. My faith in NoJ is... eh. Sometimes it's strong, sometimes it's not. It really depends more often than not. Since NoJ made the choices, that's where I end up worrying.Joker was pretty cool. Minecraft has its fans but I always thought the logical and emotionally satisfying idea was, "If we can put Banjo into Smash, we will." Regardless, let's assume the "worst" for DLC as Joker, Erdrick, and Steve. One is amazing, one is debatably nice to have, one was never considered outside of memes, and two are completely unknown. I'd say wait and see. The last two could hit the ball out of the park.
And even then, Steve might not be real because the Minecraft content is not really something considered after the game came out and Hitagi jumped the gun. This means Banjo could potentially have good odds again. Too early to start hating the DLC when we haven't really seen it yet. In fact, recent news should make us reevaluate Banjo in a much greater light. Minecraft being on Switch was a strong case for Steve. Now that there are rumors of XBox games, including the potential of Rare, coming to the Switch, who's to say Steve had a chance outside of very ambiguous and confusing inside sources? It's not like Vergeben even claimed Steve would be in to begin with so eh.
I mean, logically Joker should fly into the faces of anyone who thinks Nintendo wont deliver some suitable content. A character that only really gained traction last year and had a relatively niche following becoming an incredibly hype character? Unexpected, pleasant, suitable. Who's to say we should start Sakurai and Nintendo right now?
Seriously Banjo is all I need and the other 3 characters can be promotional picks for all I care.Oh, Sakurai, I don't doubt. Even with some of his sketchier choices, he's kept Smash's fans in mind. I have a lot of faith in him. My faith in NoJ is... eh. Sometimes it's strong, sometimes it's not. It really depends more often than not. Since NoJ made the choices, that's where I end up worrying.
That being said...
If Banjo is put into this pass, goddamn, he alone would save the heck out of that pass for me. I'd buy the whole thing upon his reveal just to send my message that I will hella support Nintendo considering the people who brought Smash off of the ground in the first place by supporting it.
His and Reggie's feud was the literal best thing about Mii fighters being revealed. That was just too perfect.I gotta ask my Genobros this: What is/are your favorite quotes from Nintendo staff members? Mine is this:
"My name is Iwata. I'm about making games. And, I'm about playing games. Last night, I played Super Smash Bros. That's my game. I kicked some, you know what, and I took his name. His name was Reggie. As Nintendo President, I'm also all about asking questions. So Reggie, I have a question for you: Who's. Your. Daddy?"
I also enjoyed the banter that went on between Bill Trinen and Reggie. A few moments after Reggie announced that his body was ready, Wii Fit told Reggie that his body was overweight and Bill said something along the lines of this in a snarky way "you know Reggie, your BMI is optimal around this number" to which Reggie responded "just remember. Muscle weights more than fat!"His and Reggie's feud was the literal best thing about Mii fighters being revealed. That was just too perfect.
Also, Reggie. E3. Classic quote. I don't need to say anything more. You know what I'm talking about, and it must be brought up in honor of this wonderful man's career. His body will always be ready, after all.
This or this is what is going to happen before Reggie retires and you know it.I also enjoyed the banter that went on between Bill Trinen and Reggie. Given how Nintendo is supporting Microsoft, they're technically the ones making the impossible possible here. I'm also sure they of all people remember Rareware from back in the day and how big it was to fans of the N64. The duo were a defining mascot of an era of Nintendo history. If those n64 classics are a possibility, guess what's going onto it. Not to say I have 100% faith in Banjo, but I can say it's the most natural conclusion to make for me. My intuitive guess is Banjo with what we have right now.Oh, Sakurai, I don't doubt. Even with some of his sketchier choices, he's kept Smash's fans in mind. I have a lot of faith in him. By god, I hope you're right. Joker is great and all and Erdrick to me is, as I said, a hype-killer for me (but all the more power to y'all, I hope you guys end up getting him after this whole speculation has been pointing to him, because it'd be a disservice if he didn't), but if this is all hinting to Banjo being more possible than ever before, then...Given how Nintendo is supporting Microsoft, they're technically the ones making the impossible possible here. In fact, I find optimism in Banjo's chances when it comes to Erdrick. Let's say they put in Erdrick from the good ol' Dragon Quest 3. Say all you want about Erdrick being a matter of business relations and partnership with Square Enix, but Banjo would be the exact same thing for Microsoft. That alone makes me more optimistic about Banjo. Banjo's circumstances are nowhere close to someone like Geno. Banjo is virtually the flagship of Rare. There is actual evidence that Microsoft themselves remember Banjo compared to the evidence of Square remembering Geno. I could go to the Microsoft store in my hometown's mall and find a store display with Banjo photo-shopped onto it. Banjo and Kazooie are getting figurines of themselves released as of last year. If Microsoft and Nintendo do not remember Banjo for something like Smash, then wow. That would be surprising.
Yeah, Verge's words won't be taken as the gospel anymore even if he does make a comeback. Now it just seems like all the stuff they said is false and possibly leading to leakbait. Verge can make a comeback if he gets something right again, but he probably won't be taken as trustworthy as the time he got Incineroar right.
Spider-Man 2? I see you have great taste. Do you also like X-Men 2? That was my favorite X-Men movie.New York City movies are arguably my favorite, but I haven't seen a good movie involving NYC since Spider-Man 2 or 3.
Same here. I'll call it a day for Ultimate's roster if we get the bear and bird.Seriously Banjo is all I need and the other 3 characters can be promotional picks for all I care.
So true. The fact that Banjo is sort of likely makes me feel a bit more at ease with Geno's unlikeliness. It'd be killer to have them both; but one alone would make the pass.
You might be on to something with this one.Hey, you know what would be a great idea and also a heck of a gateway into Geno becoming a playable fighter? Spirit board unlocks.

Bill was the ideal comic foil to Reggie, between this and the Yo-Kai Watch donut incident. It won't be quite the same anymore.I also enjoyed the banter that went on between Bill Trinen and Reggie. Unless Bill decides that he has to be the hero Nintendo needs, or dare I say, the Mario that Nintendo needs.Bill was the ideal comic foil to Reggie, between this and the Yo-Kai Watch donut incident. It won't be quite the same anymore.
Would watch E3 for that alone, so far.Unless Bill decides that he has to be the hero Nintendo needs, or dare I say, the Mario that Nintendo needs.
Still won't be the same, but even so... that should be quite the show.
Honestly, considering Nintendo's track record with E3, we'll probably get multiple characters, no more than two. That being said, I can only imagine that they'll pad out post-E3 with other Ultimate content that includes either non-Fighter's Pass fighters, echoes, or some other miscellaneous content. Otherwise, it'll get very stale, unless E3 is such a huge blow-out that it leaves fans satisfied for a while. That, or we'll get a surprise that isn't part of the Fighter's Pass along with character 3 in the pass. It's really difficult to tell.So do you guys think we might get 2 characters at E3? I'm thinking we are just getting one character, but it wouldn't surprise me if we do end up getting 2 characters at E3 since Smash 4's DLC lineup had Lucas, Roy, and Ryu all released in the same day in June of 2015.
I'm expecting two, yes. Especially given that the February 2020 deadline hasn't budged one iota.So do you guys think we might get 2 characters at E3? At least we can be assured it'll be a Ninty/Microsoft-fest, with Sony sitting this one out.Honestly, considering Nintendo's track record with E3, we'll probably get multiple characters, no more than two.
