I don't know about you, but I do not want god awful people associated with my products. Consider the fact that purchasing something he works on means he gets a little money. That's not something I want to support

This is just generally speaking though. Erdrick would still be a great character.
Well, I have bad news for you. Almost every entertainment product you consume has someone who politically disagrees with you regarding identity politics (the gaijin accusations are absolute garbage btw, as there's nothing that supports that claim) and gets a share from the money you pay for them because they're associated with the product itself. You see here how big of a falacy that line of logic can be.
But, if you really feel like this, I wonder how you feel with every piece of media out there except news organizations. .

Not to this level. Someone denying Japan's war crimes of WWII is MUCH different than any of the cons going for any other character
Are we talking ordinary bad or "walk into a mosque and talk **** about Mohammed" bad?

Honestly, you all just need to enjoy the game when it comes out Friday. From the way things are looking, Nintendo has slammed doors shut and people are going to have to be deep, deep inside in order to get info on DLC past this point. Chances are the first character will be announced January or February at the earliest, as agonizing as that sounds. Still, here's an even more condensed recap of what we know right now.

-Square Enix character, almost inevitable.
-Tales character, fairly likely.
-RARE, Minecraft, and Monster Hunter: inconclusive based on the evidence.
-No shill characters at this time.
-Aside from possibly Luminary, no one created past 2015 seems to have been considered based on the evidence right now.
-No first or second party characters at this time.

Have a drink. Play Smash. Get laid. Whatever, just try to find something to take your mind off things because this is just all going to drag out otherwise.

Oh no, I just love to logically dissect stuff and, honestly, I'm kind of glad I did.

*cue spotlight on center stage and soft accompanying piano music *

Guys, I've come to realize that, no matter who we get, it would have been a hard fought battle.

Geno- the Smash underdog. A 22 year dream come true.

Dragon Quest- finally overcame its liscensing Hell after 32 years.

Sephiroth- honored to be the first unique secondary third party character in Smash.

Crono- Legitimized in what's essentially the Video Game Hall of Fame despite the franchise not having a new game in 19 years.

This all being said, it will be a really big day for whoever is chosen and their fans so try to accept whatever outcome with grace and dignity....

But, you know, whatever, it's totally going to be Geno.

I read this in William Shatner's voice and it was glorious.

This is not a term, I was anticipating seeing on "Smashboards", of all places lol.
Well I'm not expecting to see Rottytops every time I hop on this board, but it does make me smile. Nice pic - Zombie girl is a badass.

I like how this thread had reached page 400, only less than a week ago, and it's already nearing page 500 now...
**** got real. I guess it's to be expected. **** GOT REAL!

Hoo boy here comes the French Train Station Video Screen theory.

But I'm not going to be able to enjoy Smash fully without knowing.... it's this nagging feeling that not everyone is here..... I'm still bitter they put another ****ing pokemon in over pretty much the LAST character everyone was asking for. I dunno if it's Sqaure's fault, Nintendo's fault, or both of their faults, but it's someones ****ing fault.

If there's no character announcement this week, it'll be time to go offline, grab a pint, and wait for this all to blow over. The arguments we've all been tired of for weeks aren't going to stop until the square character is shown.

Don't take this the wrong way, but maybe it's our own fault. Maybe we're expecting too much from Nintendo

I'm not sure if I've said this, but I think it would be very smart of Nintendo to show off the first DLC tomorrow. I saw someone mention E3 next year as a joke, but that ain't happening lol. They are selling a fighters pass, and it would be smart for them to show the first character for that pass the day before it is available individually. The first character is the most important, as it shows whether or not people should invest into it. Also, it would be wise to show off the first while the game is still fresh in people's minds who aren't as hard core about Smash, so that they jump on board while it's still hot. A pass is different from selling stuff individually. (It also would work to get people hyped again before release)

I'm not saying anything is happening tomorrow at all, I'm just saying it would be a good business decision to at least say who it is. They could just as well announce it January/February and it would be just as good

When they call this the ULTIMATE version of Smash and try to include all the fan favorites, then we are not expecting too much from Nintendo to include Geno

I don’t really buy the argument that a massive amount of fans would leap to SSBU if Seph is in just because he’s going to be in the FF7 remake.
Well no one's claimed it's just for that one reason as you're suggesting there.

The overall ideal is that Sephorith is bigger household name to the gaming masses and would have wider appeal as a fighting newcomer for the multiple factors and reasons.

The remake would honestly only be one fraction of the puzzle, though that does also support the fact that Sephiroth has more upcoming stuff to actually promote than Geno does, unless we get something like SMRPG2.

Fan favorites? Ah yes, i would like Mr. Saturn to be DLC too, my friend.

But seriously, i do hope they're going to include fan favorites in the pass. As it stands now, i have barely any hope left.

the problem with that imo is that cloud is already promoting what sephiroth would be promoting

But we are expecting too much. We were expecting seven new fighters before the November direct, we were expecting Skull Kid. Let's be honest here, we are expecting too much. And I think it's called Ultimate/Special because it's the 20 year anniversary game for Smash.

I think there's a big difference between buying a product and not knowing what the beliefs and values are of the people who made it and supporting the work of someone who is publicly bigoted. If Nintendo for example came out and publicly denied the Holocaust as a company you can bet your ass they would be affected financially because more people than not are against supporting individuals and institutions they see as morally reprehensible. If you love DQ and this guy's work more power to you, but people have the right to not want to financially support someone they don't agree with morally.

This is true. You can only sell a $25 mii costume for so long.

Speak for yourself, this is the ULTIMATE Smash, and Geno is one of the notable fan favorites to include.

I am hoping for at least the 1st dlc character reveal tomorrow ... the timing with the awards is perfect. Just like in Smash 4, we had DLC announcement before the release of the game.

The Smash team, and Nintendo, wants people to invest in the DLC pack ... why keep it quiet for much longer? At least the first one? Then over time announce the other fighters to keep the excitement for Smash going.

So? Double dipping ain't a foreign thing to these companies. And hey, by that logic, if Cloud gurantees FFVII purchasers than logistically, Sephiroth as DLC would keep that money coming. Ya don't want to underestimate the FFVII consumer base, lord knows SE's all too familiar with the money they rake in with that game.

And what would they be promoting with Geno?

YA'LL have to remember that Nintendo aren't always miracle workers, especially with a company as stubborn as Square. I'd hold off the blame game whether or not Geno gets in. And if you really had to point fingers, maybe pay more kind to the company who we've seen actually be stingy with this game?

Also, there are plenty of other reasons that this game is "the Ultimate", though it doesn't even have that name in Japan. Sheesh. :U

I've seen the interview, but of course Treehouse members will say good things about Nintendo's products. If spirits do indeed deconfirm, they have limited options (on second thought, let's not open that can of worms again), which makes me worried.

Also something to note, the way he said the reveals would be surprising like Plant makes me think of bad scenarios, like Slime being the SE rep.

One of the reasons to call this Ultimate is to include a good portion of the fan favorites. We aren't expecting too much of Nintendo to include Geno.

I understand your point, but what I'm saying is this logic is a pure falacy, given that there are thousands of people in the industry with controversial opinions that aren't made public anyway. You're giving them your money anyway. You're just saying that people just don't even consider this bc they might be afraid of this reality and preffer it to be publicly said for them to take some sort of position. I'm saying that it's not the lack of controversial public statements that will stop bigotted people from working in the industry, and using this line of thought for boycotting a product, that is a result of a TEAM of people (which you can bet has a good number of good-willed and hard-working people), is illogical and base itself on emotional impulses. If a company assumes a stance, as a corporation, that's a whole different story. But the case in hand is one guy out of thousands has a controversial opinion and people think boycotting it is a legit idea.

Right. But I'm saying there is no objective evidence that the "gaming masses" would actually want Sephiroth in Smash specifically over Geno. If anything the information we have points towards more people wanting Geno. You say there are "multiple factors and reasons" but you just keep saying it comes down to him being more popular in the mainstream. Him being in more games doesn't mean he necessarily appeals more to people who own Smash and would buy DLC.
