I don't think Nintendo's biggest IP getting an extra rep is riot worthy.Do you really think the series-representation-fugs are going to react non-negatively to two DLC characters in a row from the same series — and one of the biggest series in Smash on top of that?!?
Seriously. If Geno gets announced as the next DLC character after Pirahna Plant, there are going to be riots. And I'm not sure if Nintendo is willing to incite riots.
If they cared that much what series-****ers said, Fire Emblem wouldn't have 7 reps. There's one little thing that makes me rather worried about Geno's chances, particularly in the context of happening at the Game Awards tomorrow (or whenever the first Fighter Pass character is announced). As I'm sure we all know, there is a very loud (if not large) portion of the Smash fanbase that makes a very big deal of the concept of "series representation" — that the number of playable characters a series gets to have in Smash should be directly proportional to its overall success and popularity, as well as its importance in the eyes of Nintendo (by which a lot of them mean its importance in their eyes), and also that series in a certain "tier" of popularity should get a roughly equal number of characters. These are the people who complain about Fire Emblem, Pokémon, and Kid Icarus having too many characters (especially Fire Emblem) and about Kirby, Donkey Kong Country, Metroid, and Zelda not having enough characters (though, admittedly, a lot of them have been placated in regards to Metroid) — and they're starting to complain about Mario having too many characters as well. Now, to be honest, Sakurai and Nintendo probably don't care about "series representation" to anywhere near the extent that this vocal segment of the Smash fanbase does... but after the lukewarm reception to the November Direct, maybe they'll want to be careful about making the fans upset again in such a short span of time (and right before Ultimate gets released). So, the question I have is thus...

TBH you will NEVER see me complaining about Mario, LOZ or Pokemon getting more reps, even if I'm extremely apathetic to Pokemon and don't always like their choices for reps. As long as it isn't "Pink Gold Peach" I think those franchises deserve as much as Sakurai want's to allow. They are the three pillars of Nintendo.I don't think Nintendo's biggest IP getting an extra rep is riot worthy.
I think you’re overselling the amount of people that would be triggered by Geno. Every character has their detractors. I would think anyone getting bootyblasted over the reveal would be drowned out by all the people who have voted for him and asked for him to be brought back for decades now. I think Geno is a very different situation than another Pokemon rep for example. He’s a Mario character but most people don’t see him as a traditional mario character. There's one little thing that makes me rather worried about Geno's chances, particularly in the context of happening at the Game Awards tomorrow (or whenever the first Fighter Pass character is announced). This is not a term, I was anticipating seeing on "Smashboards", of all places lol.homophobic Holocaust denier
And let's hope Smash keeps it that way :3This is not a term, I was anticipating seeing on "Smashboards", of all places lol.
I hope you feel betterHype responsibly tomorrow guys, something tells me I might have to miss it.
My doctor found something on an ekg scan that he felt was important enough to send me to a heart specialist for...
Only 30 and already possible heart problems... life’s a ***** sometimes.
Hell, they clearly didn't care about the riot for Isaac…If they cared that much what series-****ers said, Fire Emblem wouldn't have 7 reps.
This too
People need to chill out. A person is entitled to their opinions. He wasn't speaking for the company.I dunno if we're allowed to post straight links; so here's obligatory text

Although that is pretty messed up, I'm not gonna sway my opinions on a character that I want just because of one person's personal feelings and beliefs. I'm sure there are people within every company that has feelings and beliefs that are just as bad as this, and we wouldn't have any idea. I'm not saying having those feelings is good or okay, but I'm just saying I'm not gonna let one person's feelings affect my choices and things that I want. I'm still going to support the character that I want, because I'm a fan of said character and their series, even though he may be a bad person.Super Anti-LGBT and openly denies Japan's war crimes in WWII. If he's entitled to have his opinions, then everyone else is entitled to despise him and not want to support him in any way. I don't have any interest in buying a DQ game, knowing he'd get money from it.People need to chill out. A person is entitled to their opinions. He wasn't speaking for the company.
"people are entitled to their opinions" works for saying you like chocolate more than vanilla, not for denying horrible things done during the war and being anti LGBT.People need to chill out. A person is entitled to their opinions. He wasn't speaking for the company.
They're not mutually exclusive. "The LinkedIn one" just provides a narrative to them. Basically implies everyone else aside from the three were office rumors and not necessarily leak bait.So then which one do we believe? The list of seven or the LinkedIn one?
No one was ever saying you shouldn't, but due to his behavior, it's unlikely that Sakurai and Nintendo would want to work with himAlthough that is pretty messed up, I'm not gonna sway my opinions on a character that I want just because of one person's personal feelings and beliefs. Tl;dr, I'm not going to stop liking a character or their game just because of one person's personal thoughts and feelings
this isnt even considering how stingy he is with his musicNo one was ever saying you shouldn't, but due to his behavior, it's unlikely that Sakurai and Nintendo would want to work with him
Look at what happened to Game & Watch. No one was ever saying you shouldn't, but due to his behavior, it's unlikely that Sakurai and Nintendo would want to work with him
is it bad that i dont know any of those characters except steveDraven from League of Legends joining Smash, or a Tenno from Warframe, Wilson from Don't Starve.... XD I don't even CARE if its STEVE anymore!
And that's perfectly fine. Some people don't want to support the series because of him and some people are fine with supporting it. But people shouldn't say that a series shouldn't get in just because of one person's beliefs. Not saying people here are saying that, I'm just saying in generalIf he's entitled to have his opinions, then everyone else is entitled to despise him and not want to support him in any way. Sure it does because we don't live in a fascist society. Most countries anyway.., but I'll stop there. DM if you want a political discussion"people are entitled to their opinions" works for saying you like chocolate more than vanilla, not for denying horrible things done during the war and being anti LGBT.
with how nintendo reacted to the game and watch controversy and how theyre a family friendly company, i genuinely cant seem them working with that composer. that isnt even mentioning how stingy he is with his music just so he can sell cdsAnd that's perfectly fine. That's possible, but every character has their pros and cons for getting inNo one was ever saying you shouldn't, but due to his behavior, it's unlikely that Sakurai and Nintendo would want to work with him
That a company is willing to support and work with such a person does reflect poorly on them. Everyone's entitled to their own opinion, yes. But sometimes that makes others look bad by associating with such people. And it's perfectly resonable for people outside the company to not wish to support such a person through DLC, game purchases or otherwise, that is our right as consumers.People need to chill out. Not to this level. Someone denying Japan's war crimes of WWII is MUCH different than any of the cons going for any other characterThat's possible, but every character has their pros and cons for getting in
But the Game and Watch situation was different. That was something actually within the game, that everyone would have seen. We're talking about someone's beliefs, that most casual fans would never even know aboutwith how nintendo reacted to the game and watch controversy and how theyre a family friendly company, i genuinely cant seem them working with that composer. that isnt even mentioning how stingy he is with his music just so he can sell cds
i think you underestimate the power of sububurban moms to dig up dirt on the games their kids play lolBut the Game and Watch situation was different. This is what is depending on who Sakurai and Nintendo are working with. If they know something, they aren't going to go through with it just because casual fans may not knowBut the Game and Watch situation was different. Dragon Quest has a massive fanbase. Just most of that fanbase is in Japan. Dragon Quest would absolutely be hype. Again just mostly for Japan.Ever since I heard some of the behind the scenes stuff about people involved with Dragon Quest; I don't want Smash to have anything to do with them. Plus that would be the most shill pick out of all the Square Reps. At least Sora has a massive fanbase who want him; even if I'm hesitant to let him join.
Super Smash Bros is literally named after Super Mario Bros. People would riot if we get another FE rep for example, but not over someone who has been trying to get to the game since Brawl.Do you really think the series-representation-fugs are going to react non-negatively to two DLC characters in a row from the same series — and one of the biggest series in Smash on top of that?!?

The composer will be credited in the "My Music" section. People will make research about the guy. And they will discover all of this and complain about it.But the Game and Watch situation was different. That was something actually within the game, that everyone would have seen. IIRC, they underestimated the size of Isaac's fans, as weird as that may sound.Hell, they clearly didn't care about the riot for Isaac…
thatd be well and good if it wasnt dlc for a worldwide release imo. if you wanna have a character thats only super popular in japan, the place for that is the base rosterDragon Quest has a massive fanbase. Just most of that fanbase is in Japan. Dragon Quest would absolutely be hype. Again just mostly for Japan.
I’m going to be honest, this is the exact reason why we are probably not getting DQ. I mean look at FF, we have 2 songs. Geno would probably add A LOT of music into smash compared to any other SE repThe composer will be credited in the "My Music" section. People will make research about the guy. And they will discover all of this and complain about it.
Granted , not many people would do that , but even the smallest of fire can spread quickly.
Not wanting to give money to the guy after what he said can be respected , despise his very good work.
But remember... Getting a DQ hero that 97% of the West don't know + 2 MIDI music tracks ? I mean , people complained about the Price of Sm4sh DLC. And It's the same price. People are going to complain regardless of the composer.
People are going to complain no matter what happens, because that's just how life isThe composer will be credited in the "My Music" section. People will make research about the guy. And they will discover all of this and complain about it.

cant be worse than the grinch leak being denied for 2 of the least hype smash characters imoI cannot WAIT for Nintendo to break my heart again tomorrow!
My problem is that I don't want Smash to give them money so they can continue to say terrible things and have their platform.Although that is pretty messed up, I'm not gonna sway my opinions on a character that I want just because of one person's personal feelings and beliefs.
