That is actually true. Here's what Nomura said in an interview for the Kingdom Hearts Ultimania,Fun possible fact: Did you guys know that Disney, in their contract with Square for the first Kingdom Hearts, insisted that Mickey could only be in a single cutscene? Not sure how 100% true that is, but it seems more likely than not and if so you can really see why Sora is such an issue to negotiate with.
Actually, due to contractual issues, we were only able to use him [Mickey Mouse] in one scene.
So i take it you don't see 2B or Lara as competition.I think it was R RetrogamerMax again but I've been asleep since then and I'm short on time this morning so this is to whoever thinks that Square would argue against Geno and for another character like Sora, 2B or Lara Croft.
First off, whoever represents Nintendo or Sakurai/Sakurai himself how ALL the negotiation power here. Remember, as I said, this is Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and Smash will likely never get this big and bombastic ever again. Fans are clamoring and going ape on one another to have their character in THIS release, not future ones, and Sakurai is coming to you to put one of your characters in the playable video game Hall of Fame. If Sakurai comes in there with a certain character in mind and you try to push others, Sakurai can just easily pull a power play and go all 'I came here for THIS character. If you will not provide me said character, then I believe we are done here.' and get up and start to walk out like you see in all the movies, and now it's up to that dev to catch up to Sakurai and say 'Now hold one, wait a minute! I think we can manage that, yes.' and Sakurai smiles smugly for a moment before turning around to walk back into the meeting room and discuss terms for the character he came for.
Smash just IS that big a deal, and no one in their right mind would turn it down, regardless of the character they got in as playable.
Secondly, Sakurai has already done this with Square before: remember, Square wanted Lightning or Noctis to get in to represent the newer age of FF, but Sakurai insisted it had to be Cloud. Did negotiations fall through? No, I'm pretty sure Cloud got in and was the biggest reveal of Smash 4 and arguably still one of the biggest if not still THE biggest reveal in Smash history. If Sakurai comes in and says he wants Geno, it doesn't matter what Square recommends instead as the already know Sakurai will get what he came for. When Sakurai came for DQ, even though it was so many firsts and did things that the company previously refused to do, Square not only worked with Nintendo but also recommended multiple heroes and worked with Sakurai to represent the series in the best way possible.
I would argue that Sakurai now has major trust built with Square, just like he does with Microsoft. He came to the table and demanded a character the both companies were shaky on, stood tall and steadfast and got what he came for, and then delivered something that was both incredibly faithful to the IPs they owned and also received insanely well by the public. This means that when Sakurai comes back again or goes to meet with other companies, his bargaining chip gets more and more massive. Imagine being the guy who can show up to any company and basically have them lick your nice-ass shoes when YOU are coming to THEM to put THEIR IP into YOUR game. This isn't something that normally happens, and I'm serious about this.
Normally when someone does this it is all on you to convince this company to lend your their IP, and I guarantee you more get shutdown than not. You are the one trying to sell your idea, to bargain, to please and perhaps even beg...but not Sakurai. Oh no, he comes in with his giant Party Balls schwingin' and slams down a copy of Smash Ultimate in it's case and a picture of the character he's there for, hold up both and then opens the case and places the picture of the character in there and slams the case shut, then sets it down interlaces his fingers and waits from a position of absolute power. If anyone questions anything, all he has to do is show them footage of the work he's already done for other 3rd party characters alongside public response and sales and it's essentially over from there.
So if Square was being weird about Geno, Sakurai could easily pull a 'Remember what I've done for you?!' and show them Cloud and the DQ Crew and then show them the Smash Ballot and how many votes Geno got and have someone show a collection of all the Geno talk that happens every ****ing day and rest his case if he really needed to. Square is really in no position to bargain.
Obviously I doubt Sakurai would be that cutthroat, but who really knows. Also, you may say 'what happened with Sora then?' to which I say...The Big D. Disney isn't a video game company, and they are GIGANTIC, so they have WAY more bargaining power because they could literally care less if happens or not...but if it does, it has to happen THEIR way. It's very likely that this is what stopped talks about Sora from going anywhere meaningful, and that would honestly be for the best, as I doubt Sora fans would want Sora coming in as a limited-time purchase and for Sakurai to be heavily limited in his design and for Sora to likely cost more than any other DLC pack. Fun possible fact: Did you guys know that Disney, in their contract with Square for the first Kingdom Hearts, insisted that Mickey could only be in a single cutscene? Not sure how 100% true that is, but it seems more likely than not and if so you can really see why Sora is such an issue to negotiate with.
I don't want to buy a Wii U/3DS, Smash for that console, and the Geno Mii Costume just to play as Geno in SmashView attachment 289061
Still appreciate my Geno Mii costume from Wii U Smash!
Thanks, I just submitted my Yay vote in the comments sectionSorry for the continued posting when I said I’m taking a break, but I just wanted to link to this new video.
Let’s try and show support for Geno on here!
More than likely, we'll probably see a proper confirmation for the Partner Showcase in the next day or twoLate to the party but, yeah, current signs point to Thursday being a noteworthy Partner Showcase at the very least.
-DOOM people said "soon" weeks ago.
-Bravely Default people said "soon" this past weekend.
-Kamiya was a cheeky ******* and may or not have been kidding when he said Bayo 3 news was coming soon.
-Ninja Gaiden Trilogy and FFVII/FFVIII Switch retail leaks now happened roughly a month ago.
-The super secret Namco franchise revival that literally nobody on the entire planet has figured out yet's copyright became registered as "active" two weeks ago.
This said, a lot of third party stuff is currently on "standby." Kind of wondering if we're getting something next week ala March and I'll explain my reasoning behind that later.
Nobody's guess, huh... so it's not at all related to the Klonoa trademark from a while back?-The super secret Namco franchise revival that literally nobody on the entire planet has figured out yet's copyright became registered as "active" two weeks ago.
Totally not.Nobody's guess, huh... so it's not at all related to the Klonoa trademark from a while back?
Well, until he gets into Ultimate, this is the best we can do for now, right? Gotta have fun!I don't want to buy a Wii U/3DS, Smash for that console, and the Geno Mii Costume just to play as Geno in Smash
This power analysis is certainly correct. Nintendo has more leverage going into these negotiations. But I think you are looking at negotiations too much as a tug-of-war. These negotiations are more like collaborative problem solving.I think it was R RetrogamerMax again but I've been asleep since then and I'm short on time this morning so this is to whoever thinks that Square would argue against Geno and for another character like Sora, 2B or Lara Croft.

I'm being sarcastic. In July, one of my guys told me Klonoa was coming back and, sure enough, multiple trademark updates have happened since then so it's yet another prime example of a **** kept secret.Nobody's guess, huh... so it's not at all related to the Klonoa trademark from a while back?
I swear... if Bandai Namco pops off revealing a new Klonoa game coming to the Nintendo Switch, I'ma loose my mind. I'll admit first though, I've never played a Klonoa game before, but I've ALWAYS wanted to play them. It's that kinda franchise that as a kid you never got the chance to play the game cause it was on another console and just had to settle for watching articles and screenshots of it on a gaming magazine, or as I've done recently, watch Let's Plays or video reviews of previous games. Regardless, hopefully we get some great gaming news either this week or the next.Late to the party but, yeah, current signs point to Thursday being a noteworthy Partner Showcase at the very least.

please don’t remind me. As a Layton fan who’s very passionate about the Layton series and thinks a level 5 rep will happen, this news is upsetting to hear.Been a while since I posted but did ya hear the news https://www.gamesindustry.biz/artic...-virtually-halted-operations-in-north-america
Edit: yes ik this is unrelated to whatever is being said but this is Nintendo related news that affects smash speculation.
I'm still holding out for that 2D Metroid that was mentioned alongside Paper Mario. I'm personally feeling pretty hopeful for an announcement before the end of the year.We seem to be getting this fairly clear picture that everything was moved back 3-4 months:
-If Min Min was supposed to be in the Spring Direct, her turning into a late June announcement makes sense.
-Pikmin 3 Deluxe supposed to be June release makes sense because Nintendo has a long history of releasing games with weeks of E3.
-3D World Deluxe being a late October release also makes sense because Luigi's Mansion 3, Super Mario Party, and Super Mario Odyssey were all October releases.
-March 26th keeps coming up, most notably for the upcoming Monster Hunter games. November 26th is literally Thanksgiving and the first day of Holiday shopping.
-Hyrule Warriors 2: Age of Waifus is slated for November. August was the release month of the original.
-E3 was supposed to be early June. The Mario presentation was early September and this presentation was supposed to kick off Nintendo's 2020 E3.
It's also pretty clear now that Spring Direct announcements were pretty much spread out from mid June to late August with stuff that would have been E3 announcements starting in September. This somewhat implies that if these same parameters are put in place that "E3" announcements should carry on until mid November.
I'm thinking that these partner showcases and the news drought for half this year wasn't completely due to the virus but because the new Nintendo president was trying to make his own legacy in the company and is intentionally disbanding the Nintendo Directs. There was so much news in September that if they combined it all, that would have easily been a Direct, but instead they did the bite size chunks and shadow drops. And the presentations don't appear any different before or after the virus, so why is it spread out like this? The partner's showcase would have probably been received better if there was an actual Nintendo Direct that preceded it lol. This October Partners Showcase is looking to be great. Probably the best one yet!
And now let's hope this becomes a reality with the REAL Geno in Ultimate.View attachment 289061

It is definitely curious to see what that Klonoa Encore thing is gonna be about, people say a remaster and/or port or something because of the "encore" part, but considering the remake of the first game came out in 2008 for the wii, it makes you wonder if they really needed a new trademark for that and not just a renewal of the one they already had… I would pray for a remake of the second game at least, since that game has never been touched after it released in PS2 back in 2001 lol. But yeah who knows at this point, Namco is seriously testing my patience in general lolNobody's guess, huh... so it's not at all related to the Klonoa trademark from a while back?
Hence perhaps... the E3 2020 closing Smash reveal may be nigh. smells Mario-themed Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Nintendo VS Challenge Cup branded tournament incoming around November/DecemberWe seem to be getting this fairly clear picture that everything was moved back 3-4 months:

Welcome to the thread, here is your Geno hatMonths of lurking since December of 2019 and I think our time is nigh... Hello, everyone! I'm a zoomer and I'm a fan of Geno. Crazy how that works, huh? I think Geno is the likeliest he's ever been in speculation and I think he can bring enough for a unique moveset. Since this game has brought many fan-favorite characters, even ones that have talked about since Melee times, it's a no-brainer that Geno should be coming at some point in this pass imo. I wanted to make this account and post after Geno got in, but I realized the traffic would be crazy. Reading this thread is like watching a TV show sometimes. Everybody has their own unique personalities and there's different turning points every so often. I hope everybody gets their wish sometime soon! Also, I do have a Geno hat version of this profile pic, but I'll save it until after the supposed reveal. I won't be very active posting on this thread, only to chime in on a conversation if I really want to. Quick question: Do y'all prefer to be called Genovians or Genobros? I just thought of Genovians in my head.
Thank you, but I'm already ahead of you! I made a version of my avatar that I will switch to after Geno is in. Thank you for the welcome!Welcome to the thread, here is your Geno hat

I bet the comment section is a tiny bit of bloodbath a bunch of people saying, “Geno doesn’t deserve to be in Smash” and etc.Sorry for the continued posting when I said I’m taking a break, but I just wanted to link to this new video.
Let’s try and show support for Geno on here!
Actually friend I went to his channel and listened to the whole video and made a comment, and there are very few people even saying nay, let alone people being toxic. His channel IS rather small though, so that most definitely has something to do with it.I bet the comment section is a tiny bit of bloodbath a bunch of people saying, “Geno doesn’t deserve to be in Smash” and etc.
Agreed I'm not at all opposed to the Partner Showcase approach. I think they're just so despised because they're generally not surrounded by any substantial news (and a lot of hype news has been teased by everyone but Nintendo this year and not much of it has come to fruition...and it's just different than what we've come to expect). The partner's showcase would have probably been received better if there was an actual Nintendo Direct that preceded it lol. This October Partners Showcase is looking to be great. Probably the best one yet!
Ah yes, another fellow zoomer in the thread. Always good to see that. Us zoomers aren't the most common in here, so it is nice to have another one.Months of lurking since December of 2019 and I think our time is nigh... Hello, everyone! I'm a zoomer and I'm a fan of Geno. Crazy how that works, huh?
