I'm pretty cool with Steve. I like what I see in the moveset, the final smash is hilarious, and I'm happy he's here. There are so many people who are incredibly happy, we don't even know.

That said, this feels like a good time to hang it up for the time being. Speculation is such a rough-n-tumble kind of ride, and considering how long it took before we were clued in to #7, I don't expect we'll see much else until the turn of the new year.

I'm gonna keep to the lurking side and just keep an ear out for anything interesting, but other than that, I think I'm cool with not thinking about this Fighter's pass for a while. Wishing everyone the best, of course, and... may we one day get our time to shine! Hopefully, anyway.

But hey, don't fret quite yet, this is a MICROSOFT character, a Geno Mii is very very unlikely to come on Saturday. a Square character will be in this pass.

Don't believe leakers unless their name is ZHugeEX. Geno still isn't deconfirmed until we SEE a Mii Costume.

So the big question now that we know Steve was one of the planned E3 reveals is where does this leave Crash? E3 would have been the perfect place to announce Crash and if Geno was the planned finale, than I think Crash might not be happening. I could be dead wrong, but Crash seems like one of those characters where he is E3 or bust.

Oh most definitely. I think I would've been much more upset if Steve got in before Banjo.

So if Steve is the Microsoft rep and not Master Chief, than maybe a certain lawyer is the Capcom rep instead of Dante. Don't get me wrong I have nothing against Dante, but I have no attachment towards the Devil May Cry games. I would just prefer Phoenix more.

I'm honestly incredibly doubtful we'll get a Capcom character for this Fighters Pass. I mean, so many potential Capcom characters are now currently out of the running it's not even funny:

• Mega Man & Street Fighter? Already well represented.
• Monster Hunter? Boss/Assist Trophy and music.
• Resident Evil? DLC Spirits.
• Everything else? Either too obscure (Okami, Viewtiful Joe, Wonderful 101) or too weird to have a proper moveset (Phoenix Wright, Dino Crisis).

The only one that this point who I could see potentially happening at this point is Dante, but even then there doesn't really seem to be much in his favor aside from popularity (bandwagoning included) and viablility as a combatant. At the rate things are going, we're more likely to get another SNK or SEGA character than we are another Capcom character.

I woke up this morning and just knew Geno was not going to be 7. Why? As much as I love and want Geno ... he was not going to be the "opening" for E3. Steve makes sense and I totally get it and have no problem with Steve being on the pass.

Geno is like Banjo ... so if there was indeed going to be a double reveal, Geno would fit just like Banjo. So ... I will go back to lurking since with Covid we are talking about MANY MONTHS of nothing for quite some time.

I will be watching out for the presentation this Saturday. If there is a certain mask revealed with the Mii costumes. Then oh boy.

The only character who took a fat L today is Master Chief, who I was low-key gunning for (and even then, there are still 4 bonus slots that could be used, nothing is impossible). Nothing today hurt Geno and maybe Cacomallow gets confirmed on Saturday, so I think it's a net gain. All we can do is wait.

None. Ness broke the "A character that only appeared in one game can't get in." rule. K. Rool broke the irrelevant barrier or should I say the Ice Climbers did all the way back in Melee. Banjo & Kazooie broke the the impossible barrier seeing as he is owned by Microsoft. And Min Min broke the Spirit barrier which means nothing else stands in Geno's way.

Granted, he's heard of Minecraft from his friends but never actually played it. Steve's ability to build on top of his opponents and basically fight in the potentially most unorthodox way does seem to resonate with him though.

We had two or more reveals for E3 2006 (Meta Knight/Pit/Wario/Zero Suit Samus/Snake), 2013 (Villager/Mega Man/Wii Fit Trainer), 2014 (Miis/Palutena/Pac-Man), 2015 (Roy/Ryu), 2018 (Daisy/Ridley), and 2019 (Hero/Banjo)

Not gonna lie, my mind switched between three different characters during the trailer.

Mario's the main focus, and he's fighting a bunch of characters including Cloud? Geno?
Mario's fighting Sonic now, and Sonic, knocks him off screen? Crash?
Mario gets blasted into a dark void with a hole made of weird-looking squares? Steve?
... yup, it's Steve.

Of course not! When I saw Mario, I started freaking out, then Peach, and then even Cloud, I thought it was absolutely Geno! Especially when I though the dark space with the glowing eyes in the background were the Smithy Gang! I thought a Star would glow or Geno would save him or something! Crash is still in a good position in my opinion. Keep in mind that even though Cloud was revealed in a November Direct, the internet still lost their minds over his inclusion. So Crash can be revealed at any time.

I’d personally appreciate it if sakurai on Saturday came out and gave us a date or month for when we’ll next hear smash news rather than have leakers by secretive about characters and us having to rely on 4chan for potential leaks.

and also the Mii Costumes since Microsoft now owns Zenimax and Bethesda. The next amiibo wave and Mii Fighter costume release dates are going to be very important to keep our eyes open on

To me, the biggest problem with the "could Geno just be leakbait?" argument is that there's so much more evidence pointing to him than just "a few insiders vagueposting about SMRPG".

Could I see Nintendo (or Squeenix) try to trick insiders with false info? Sure.

Could I see Nintendo randomly copyright-claim a couple SMRPG tracks and keep the Geno Mii costume from being revealed for over a year just to "epically pwn some leakers"? I dunno, man, doesn't seem too likely.

Steve actually looks really cool, and Minecraft is the most popular game in the world so I’m happy he got in. I’m going to peace out of this thread until the next fighter is released. Geno is still coming, but a character as popular as Steve was probably the best choice as the second character to show in FP2. The wait continues!

Yeah, that's definitely the worst part about all of this. We have no clear idea when we will get news for the next character. We can only guess at stuff like the TGA's, but we didn't get one revealed there last year so it's no guarantee. At the very least, we get to see what costumes come with him on Saturday, and depending on what is shown, it could help further fuel speculation going forward. Will also be interesting to see if any new modes or features are included with this next update. And once the update comes out, if anything can be datamined from it. So we still have some stuff to look forward to in the near future at least.

E3 always has double reveals. Always. Ever since the beginning of Smash 4. I don’t know if Min Min was supposed to be the other one or if FP8 was. If it’s FP8 that means we’ll see them rather soon.

Alright, recap post time, what have we learned today?

• Steve is one of our E3 picks, and being 7, it seems like he would have been the opener. It begs the question of who 8 could possibly be to stand next to that kind of bombshell. Some kind of fan pick to counteract him perhaps?
• It's a third party. Feel like this basically rules out any other first-parties sans promotional picks since due to the fact that the ease ease of negotiations means they would come first in the pass, like Min Min did.
• It's a third party already in Smash. Basically what we expected but it's absolute confirmation companies went back to the table for more DLC.
• It's a western character. Pretty obvious Banjo wasn't an exception and even though it is Microsoft again I will be floored if we don't get another western rep COUGH*crash*COUGH.
• Imran (as well as others I believe) said that the negotiations for Minecraft in Smash date back as far as 3 years potentially. This was a long term thing. If that is the case, it begs the question of why it took until Pass 2 to actually get Minecraft content, but then you realize that Banjo didn't come with any Microsoft content, and Steve would have been decided on by that time if he is this early in the Pass. ESPECIALLY if Steve does come alongside Microsoft Mii's, I think it's ENTIRELY reasonable to propose the idea that Minecraft content was originally planned to be nothing more than something like a Mii Costume/Spirits, and that Nintendo chose to include them as a character instead after Fighter Pass 2 was greenlit. In case you don't realize, this is VERY GOOD for Geno, given his Mii Costume still hasn't shown up yet for unexplained reasons.
• Speaking of Mii Costumes, Geno is 99.999999% not showing up on Saturday, which is good. But, given every pack except Hero so far has had atleast one returning Mii Costume, it's between the Hunters, Lloyd, and Gil, and given all 4 are Sword Fighters it's a tossup between all of them.
• We have no idea when 8 is. Uhg. BUUUUUUT Amiibo theory seemingly persists, meaning if we get a timeframe for Banjo and Terry, we have a guideline, which is way better than nothing.
