I disagree.

-I don't think the E3 announcements disappeared into the ether. There's a mountain of evidence that Mario 35th and Zelda 35th were likely going to be key takeaways of E3 at the very least so there's all that. Pikmin 3 Deluxe was supposed to be a spring release and then got pushed back to October. There's a lot out that shows that stuff got pushed back 4-5 months, not totally nuked.

-You've said it yourself; it's pretty much too late at this point to announce big holiday games. Those games have probably been pushed to spring and summer 2021 but there's no reason they can't announce them.

-Partner Showcases will continue to be a thing but it's pretty clear they aren't replacements for Directs. Like I said yesterday, it's mostly been stuff that's already been announced or stuff that's super niche. I think this will simply be Nintendo's approach for these types of games from now on.

-I know things suck right now but if Nintendo can't manage to put out a single decent presentation by January, I think they have bigger problems on their hands. Cash is pouring in but patience is running thin and Nintendo has way too many examples of years where the fanbase got burned out on waiting and simply moved somewhere else.
And they can still announce plans for Mario's 35th in the coming weeks, just not in a standard direct. This is sort of a side tangent but for anyone thinking it's too late for them to announce anniversary plans, they didn't announce anything for Zelda's 30th back in 2016 until September when they just decided to dump everything in one direct, including Amiibo, artbooks, concerts, and shadowdropping Skyward Sword on Wii U, all under the 30th branding. Them annoucing the Collection on Twitter in the coming weeks, alongside Super Mario Allstars on SNES Online (which is the only game originally datamined from NES Online that hasn't shown up yet, and Grubb has apparently backed is as well) isn't unreasonable and honestly fits with how Nintendo has been acting since March.

I understand that stuff has been delayed only a few months back, but that's not my point. Nintendo has announced 2 whole games for the last 5 months, both of which were completely ready for pre-load day one, they were finished. Nintendo, for whatever reason, clearly wants to avoid any delays and is only willing to announce things they are ABSOLUTELY sure won't be. The fact is, nothing points to a direct in the next few weeks at this point. Nintendo would not be holding, and CONTINUE holding these partner directs if they had plans for a larger scale presenation, it makes no sense. They flat out say in the video "We plan to hold more showcases this year". This isn't some new, monthly format Nintendo is going to stick to until the end of time, and it isn't an E3 dump of third parties, what this is is a stopgap for third parties to present their stuff in for the rest of 2020 since Nintendo isn't holding a direct anytime soon.

  • They don't need to. Animal Crossing has carried the ENTIRE year for them. Hardware is still having shortages, and both Next-Gen consoles are stuck in this limbo state where neither wants to admit the price since they're obviously both extremely expensive and launching machines like this during a economic downturn sounds like a recipe for a launch disaster.
I have to agree here. Nearly everyone on my friends list all still play Animal Crossing religiously. I even looked at their profiles, and most of them don't even commit 10 hours to other AAA titles BESIDES Smash. I should also note my friends aren't like me who's scraping at the bottom of the barrel for Nintendo news. I even asked them if they're looking forward to any new games, and they all pretty much say they have PS4 for leisure single player games.

Hmm...now that I think of it, since the Trials of Mana spirits were made permanently part of the game as of the last update, that means with the upcoming spirit event we have both one Square and one Mario event each and probably won't see either of them in until after FP7 drops

Oh, that's huge. The fact that we got 2 SE and 1 Mario Rpg spirit event is alredy big for OUR BOI, but now this. Amazing...

That doesn't mean you need to use the Geno thread to soapbox Socialism...
Call it what you will, as long as Nintendo insist on demonstrating behavior that I feel deserve being called out, I will do so as much as can be applied to the thread. My arguments are on topic as far as Nintendo holding out on us is concerned, and anyone is free to disagree with it so long as they respect my right to say it. I will not stay silent simply because I have a point of view you don't want to hear. You are more than encouraged to scroll past me until you see someone you'd rather talk to.

Today is my 32nd Birthday and I humbly request Geno for Smash in the near future.
Happy Birthday!

Even if the worst case scenario happens and they have no games left for the rest of the year, Nintendo still needs to communicate both to investors and it’s fans what they have planned for early next year, they cannot go silent for the rest of the year and expect people to be happy about with them. There has to be something news related coming in September.

Well no news about a direct announcement today. And next Friday is the first anniversary of the last general direct. It's hope they'll announce one next week before Friday.

What if Geno cycles through everyone's win animations from SMRPG? His nod, Mario/Mallow/Peach's peace symbols (with spinning in Peach's case and hopping excitedly in Mallow's), and whatever Bowser's doing with his arms, depending on which region you're in.

Ok, that might be a biiiiiiiig stretch but it's a guy with blue clothes and red hair grabing a star, so I just thought I'd post it
Probably a stretch, yeah, but I wonder what this is trying to reference, if anything?

1. That Bowser victory theme is way TOO polemic, is the equivalent in Japan of the middle finger
2. Not every Sakurai Pic Of The Day is a reference to some game, for example he posted one in which a Pink Banjo grabbed Nana, what is supposed to be that referencing?

Bowser's victory pose is different between versions of the game, hence why I said 'depending on the region'. In the Japanese version, he does the bicep-polishing gesture which - as far as I know - in Japan isn't an actual visual slur at all, but rather a sort of 'tough-guy' thing, as in "Look at my muscles". It however was interpreted as something obscene elsewhere, because people have cultural differences and the same gesture can mean very different things in different places. In the US version of the game his victory animation is different entirely, with him instead pumping both fists into the air at about face-height, which retains the 'look how tough I am' vibe the original was meant to have.
