I don’t doubt that people would want to go to it, I just don’t think Nintendo would host a streaming party at this point, even if the store is open. They could easily open the store and not allow a streaming party.
Yeah... It's just wishful thinking on my part... I guess Min Min's reveal wasn't in the store either. It just kind of kills me of the distinct possibility that Geno's next but we won't have the legendary store reaction because of the pandemic...

It's not like there haven't been large amounts of reactions that have been put into compilations

There is more continuity between Art of Fighting and King of Fighters than there is between the original Doom series (1, 2, 64), Doom 3, and the new Doom series (2016, Eternal)

I guess any of that would be relevant if I mentioned SamSho and Fatal Fury but I didn't. Art of Fighting and King of Fighters are the same thing. They haven't made an Art of Fighting game since 1996, and all the important characters from AoF are mainstays in KoF now.

But again, if you're truly deadset on these being entirely different series (they aren't) why would they make Terry's reveal trailer a play on a King of Fighters intro, use AoF and SamSho characters in it, and then suffix it with "Smash Bros x Fatal Fury"?
No, they're not the same thing.

Art of Fighting, just like Fatal Fury or Samurai Shodown, are their own series. This is basic information.

King of Fighters is basically the Smash Bros. of SNK. You have characters from Fatal Fury, Art of Fighting, Psycho Soldier or Ikari Warriors frequently appearing in KoF games, plus of course completely original characters that belong to KoF.
Also, KoF games occur in their own timeline. This is easy to prove because for example, Geese Howard, who is canonically dead in the Fatal Fury series, is alive in KoF games. You can play against Geese using Rock Howard, his son, in KoF XIV, something that completely clashes with Fatal Fury's timeline.

Yeah, they aren't making more Art of Fighting games, that's true... but that and the series being the same as KoF are just 2 completely different things. That's a leap in logic that I don't understand, honestly. Not trying to sound rude, but this feels super random.
I mean, if for you AoE is the same thing as KoF, I must assume you think the same for F-Zero, Earthbound or Ice Climbers, and consider these series and Smash Bros. games the same thing.

As for Terry's trailer, I honestly don't know what's your point with that. It's incredibly obvious Terry is a special case that brings content for SNK in general beyond his own franchise, but he's technically a Fatal Fury rep because he's from that series. The trailer is an homage to SNK properties, and I guess that it was also a hint that we would get content beyond Fatal Fury.

In other words. Characters such as Terry or Ryo are King of Fighters characters? Yes, that's true, because they appear in KoF games. Are they original KoF characters? Obviously not. Is Captain Falcon a Smash Bros. character? Yes. Is he a original Smash Bros character? No, because he's from F-Zero.

Maybe it's selfish, but as far as I'm concerned, Geno can come in any form as long as it's now rather than later. If he gets revealed in front of a massive crowd? This is fine. ...If we just wake up tomorrow to a video titled 'Mr. Sakurai discusses strategies for playing as Geno' and it turns out they forgot to actually reveal him first? I'm okay with that.

Geno may be the first store reaction of fighters pass 2, and the first store reaction since January.
Honestly I kind of doubt a store reaction til at least next year, but that may be off topic.

Maybe I would if F-Zero, for example, started off as a platform fighting game like Smash Bros, that had multiple installments in that vein, went defunct, had its mechanics expanded upon in Smash Bros, had its major characters all ported to Smash Bros where they played basically the same way they played in F-Zero, and Smash Bros was recognized as taking place within the confines of the F-Zero universe. Then yes, I would assume that F-Zero and Smash Bros were functionally the same series

What you're doing is trying to tell me that X-Men vs. Street Fighter isn't in the Marvel vs Capcom series because the name changed and it expanded beyond just being X-Men and Street Fighter characters

This is becoming a serious derailment of the thread, though

I just see it like this.

Fatal Fury / Art of Fighting / Samurai Showdown = Captain America / Thor / Iron Man

King of Fighters = Avengers

They each are their own IPs, but they interact frequently.

That's reasonable but if we were in some kind of horrendous dystopian universe where we got 4th party Mii Costumes I think it would be pretty silly to count "Marvel®'s Thor™" and "Marvel®'s Captain America™" as being from two different series when trying to develop rules for speculation

edit: Going to have nightmares about people arguing over who counts as an "original Avengers character"

I mean, they would require different copyright. :troll:

You think Geno gets fan requests/wishes to see him return like how Santa Claus in most media gets tons of letters?

I wholeheartedly wish, and if I could make another wish, I wish for all of the character support fandoms, 4chan, Resetera, Reddit, Smashboards, and Twitter smash fans could all get along and turn this community into a even more welcoming space for people with multiple wants and desires.
That would be awesome.

For real though, I don't think Imran is hinting at anything here.

This is the second time Imran has made a Super Mario RPG related joke recently. I’ll keep an eye on them, but I’m willing to give him the benefit of the doubt and let him just have fun with stuff. Sometimes you just gotta joke around from time to time.

He shouldn't share a cute head cannon?
I know what I said.

"Yes, let me joke around toward a fanbase that I already riled into a frenzy the other day. There's no WAY people won't go nuts again. People look to me for info, but I don't care how people read into what i say, screw it!"

No matter where you stand on tweets meaning anything, you have to admit it's weird that all these industry people decided to start joking about Geno in Smash all at the same time. Clearly they just all got into a jokey mood once the FP7 reveal became imminent. Surely it's all just a coincidence!

Someone find out when Khan stopped working for GameStop (well, Game Informer, but same diff) so we can come up with a conspiracy theory that links his tweets with Pam Horton's "when Geno was announced for Smash" bit. They're both in CAHOOTS, I tell ya!

This is the kind of nonsense that gets outsiders to make fun of us. Don't be that guy.

New head cannon.
The thing I find interesting about these "hints" is that Imran hasn't been the only one frequently bringing up Geno for Smash as of recently. If this was just Imran making jokes, then I wouldn't bat an eye at this stuff. But since other gaming insiders like Jeff Grubb and GameXplain have been heavily talking about Geno for Smash, it makes me open my eyes a little bit.

I would still take these tweets with a grain of salt until one of these guys REALLY hints at Geno, but it is still something I found interesting.

I stand by it. If I were in his position I would not make this tweet knowing the speculation it may cause. It's not nonsense, and I will argue with you on it if I have to. I told Fatmanonice Fatmanonice the same thing (out of respect, not malice) and I would hold anyone to that standard.

I don't think Imran's tweets 100% mean "Geno confirmed" but I don't blame people for being suspicious. Around the time we anticipate more Nintendo news with the possibility of DLC7 reveal, some insiders begin to joke about or play around with the idea of Geno in Smash. Genuinely asking, but have they done this with other characters before? If they haven't then, like I said, I don't blame people for finding it suspicious

Well, maybe not entirely out of the realm...
The thing is even if they "reopen" soon, chances are they'll prevent a huge gathering around that area for at least a couple months; so still no store reactions I would imagine until late this year if COVID dies down.

Also I think Geno is 7, but people should stop using Grubb's "hints" as evidence. Imran and GameXPlain is your choice, but the most Grubb has leaked is the March direct, and he isn't really a Smash leaker either. Still, unless someone like ZhugeEX also comes forth and hints at Geno I think we shouldn't really talk about insider tweets that much.

You're taking this speculation thing way too seriously, and it's unhealthy.

Imran Khan probably doesn't know anything at all about who's the next fighter. But that doesn't mean he's not confident as to who it could be, same as us. He's not "riling up" the Geno fanboys--he's providing levity in a scene where there ain't any.

Is it annoying that Nintendo's dragging their feet on Smash news? Of course it is. Is Imran Khan or any of the other gaming insiders to blame for your insecurity about a video game character? Absolutely not.

Let’s just say Geno has a trophy. If he ever got a trophy, what would you write giving him a description?

My general take on the insider tweets is that I'm willing to look at them and get tentatively excited, but not take them too seriously. So like if Geno gets in, I'll be like "Oh you cheeky lads you, you were teasing us the whole time!" but if he doesn't, I'm not about to be like "b-b-but they were leaking him!"

Andwooooo Andwooooo No. It is you who is completely missing the point. There's a difference between heavily analyzing a card in a "this character is coming to Smash" tweet to align it with the character you want, and blatantly talking about the subject of a certain heavily requested character coming to Smash during a time when direct anticipation is high. These are not the same scenarios. It's not a ****ing coincidence that Jeff grub randomly stopped "playing" Mario RPG 3 minutes afterward just to go play Ghosts of Tsushima, a game on an entirely different console.

You're wrong. It's not unhealthy for me to point out that if people don't want other people putting stock in everything they tweet, then they need to be more careful with what they say and how they say it. I'll say it again: I would not have made that tweet in his position. He already had to calm people down the other day. Why do it again? It makes no sense on his part and I will continue to hold that position.

And it ain’t a coincidence that Pam Horton accidentally said Geno was announced in Smash in a GameStop promo video for an unrelated game either.

But *none* of this is the fault of the insiders. Your anger or annoyance or what have you is misdirected. Get mad at Nintendo for holding back. Not at the insiders for being coy.

Hot take, but no. They have no horses in this race, so it’s not their responsibility to placate us. You trying to police their tweeting behavior is just silly.

If you’re mad, be mad. But direct it at the ones responsible for this nonsense—don’t be mad at the people trying to incite actual discussion when Nintendo won’t.
