Alright, so it seems like Smash will likely be next week. But I legitimately don’t think this was the original plan. Here’s why - so we know that Sony rescheduled the PS5 reveal and it took place last Thursday. This wasn’t the original plan by any means, but things happened and life goes on, right? We didn’t get any news from Nintendo when we normally would expect it. I think it’s pretty safe to say that any news we could’ve heard was likely moved to later in the month. If Nintendo would’ve went ahead with any news - Smash or otherwise on Tuesday, it’d be out of the news cycle within the next two days. Even Nintendo’s biggest games wouldn’t stack up to a new console reveal from Microsoft or Sony. With how spread out the news is currently, it would make so much more sense to just push it back to a less competitive week later in the month.
So why not this week? Well the Pokémon event tomorrow is a pretty good indicator of why. More than likely this event was always going to happen this week, and I think that Fatmanonice’s idea about how Smash and Pokémon could each get their own week applies. Not only that, but we know that the Pokémon Company does their own thing when it comes to announcements. Smash and Pokémon together would be a bad idea, especially since they’re both just DLC. With the only info to go on is that FP6 is slated for June, that’s the only real deadline to meet. Internal scheduling is probably pretty rigid for the most part, but there’s at least some space for ARMS. Plus, Nintendo isn’t beholden to announce every game for the rest of 2020 at once, so those announcements could be spread out in the coming weeks/months.
Anyways, TLDR is that Nintendo probably just moved back announcements to a free week since the original date would’ve been brushed aside due to the PS5 reveal getting delayed.
