  • Now that we know what's happening with the marketing thing
Dude that was in the investors report from like 2 months ago, this is nothing new, they said the character is coming out in June and there is literally no reason to change that. We aren't getting anything this week, (the two times they did announce Hero and Terry's presentations at 6:00PM PST was because they were shadowdropped two days later with their respective online tournaments, the same thing happened with Banjo, they only don't announce events when the character drops that week because the tournament relates to them, and given that if we keep the current pattern of having a spirit event this week, we get a tournament next week, wonder who it might be for.) so I just assume it's getting dropped next week and they've gone back to doing shadowdropped releases for no reason.

EDIT : And look at that, random spirit event about... horns I guess. See you guys next week for the reveal.

Heyyyy, go easy on me, I was just asking a question! And I didn't think it would change, I just wanted to make sure. Is there anything wrong with that?

let me just remind you that other Japanese companies are also revealing games just fine.
They are? Like who? There's been like one game reveal here and there per company if that.

And don't say Sony. SIE is more California than Japan at this point.

I'll say it again

Even before the virus it was very clear something was off: Basically nothing between Terry and the long, drawn out wait to get Byleth and the season two announcement. From there... absolutely nothing on the slate except Animal Crossing and Xenoblade, and they spent basically two months doing nothing but hyping up Animal Crossing

Even the lead up to Xenoblade felt underwhelming compared to how hard they pushed Animal Crossing. It's very obvious Nintendo just didn't have anything and they expected Animal Crossing to carry them for a good long time. The proof of it alone was in the Mini-Direct where it was just small third party titles and a "Oh btw ARMS in Smash" tease. Heck, Paper Mario should have been something shown off in the last Mini-Direct, but the fact that they only told us it exists NOW sounds more like a lack of confidence in their own product

And now they have so little of nothing that they're spacing out all of their announcements. All of this Pokemon news could have come last week or the week before but I guess we're doing it now just for the sake of dragging it out

Nintendo wasn't going to have a good year with or without the virus messing things up
Damn. In that case, Sony just gave them the back-handed B-slap by dropping an actual E3 presentation while they just sat on their hands. SMH

He keeps giving us spirit events thag keeps pushing fighters back. So, I have an idea, all we have to do is not be horny at all this week, and then we get the news.

So, what are the odds of a reveal next week, now that we know what has been happening with the marketing thing and COVID-19?
There seems to be an trend of Nintendo/Smash Directs or presentations occurring an week after an Pokemon Direct. I'd say the chances are good.

Just like zero said in a recent video, the Smash community is going through dark times. Byleth was hated by most of the people who watched the stream, probably the fighter pass 2 hasn't sold as well as 1 at the time because of this. I love Arms and everything, but it's not something as impressive as Joker from Persona 5 (Also, the trailer was shadowdropped and obviusly the people were spoiled) it has been almost 6 months since the last reveal, EVO and other tournaments have withdrawn Smash from their lineup (Online) etc.

Personally, I used to play smash like a lot, but in front of a screen, with friends in a coach, or at university in tabletop mode, due to the quarantine and the lousy Online I no longer play as much as before, I don't know if it happens to the rest.

If we have to wait until September to know who # 7 is, I don't know what will happen to the Smash community.
The community is in no danger at all. EVO made the right choice of not hosting Smash because even fans will not defend the terrible online infrastructure. There wasn't a big controversy around it because most people knew it would happen already.

Byleth was one of the worst possible reveals to end on in general, especially as a part of Season 1; and I say that as someone who loves FE and playing Byleth in Smash (probably my no. 3 after Joker and Hero).

- Enormously long waiting time between the reveal of Terry to Byleth. Not to mention he didn't show up where we expected a Smash reveal to show up. Terry presentation, nope. Game Awards which Nintendo hyped up, nope. And then they announce a surprise presentation in the middle of January, featuring the new unknown DLC character.

- Lack of leaks surrounding them. Usually I dislike leaks, but they do help prepare you for that character. I don't think Terry would have been as well received, if SNK didn't get leaked ahead of time. If Byleth had leaked well ahead of time, the soreness would've been reduced (but it would still be there). Instead Nintendo pretty much put them in a security vault to make it a surprise.

- Another "advertisement" for FE. It's no coincidence that after the Byleth reveal we also ended up getting more FE:TH DLC information, not to mention his reveal aligned with the release of FE Mirage Sessions. This isn't the first time, as Corrin in Smash 4 did the exact same thing (which coincidentally kickstarted the annoying "generic anime swordsman meme")

- Passing over other just as, if not more deserving franchises. For example, Rex and Pyra + ARMS were too late to get into Smash 4 base. But not late enough to be an advertising rep like FE:TH. The original release of Three Houses was planned to be 2018, and if we did get it around that time; there's a good shot Byleth wouldn't have been chosen. Again, Byleth got in just because he hit that sweetspot for timing. A potential Elma was passed over in favor Corrin in Smash 4, and it happened again here because FE just fit that spot a little better.

- Lack of another reveal. We didn't get any reveal to provide a cushion for Byleth's reception. Corrin at the very least had Bayonetta. All the hate was centered solely on Byleth in comparison.

I think if Byleth was a part of season 2 then the salt would've been reduced because a potential FE:TH rep would've been more "expected" (but obviously there would still be a lot of raging). That said, I am thankful for Terry/Byleth/ARMS in the way that speculation doesn't revolve around HUGE characters/series anymore. Literally any series/character with a legacy is valid as long as they originated in a video game. Except Saber/FATE (but who even knows at this point).

I always found funny that there are people believing that Spirits deconfirm. They are a miserable little pile of .PNG archives.

I imagine Businessmen, heads of the industry, dressed formally at a meeting, discussing which characters could be in one of the biggest advertising games in the industry, but one saying "We can't add that character, it's a spirit :( "
Yeah, people who cling to the Spirit/AT deconfirm rule right now are being unreasonable. PNG's and Items are not going to stop a certain character from being added. Heck, the fact that Nintendo even considered Springman/Min-Min/Ninjara/Twintelle/Ribbon-Girl as "on the table" back in the ARMS presentation should have killed the rule. Can I confirm that we'll get promotions? No. But Spirits/ATs are not really a "hurdle" in this age of DLC.

and I say, keep her out of Smash.

And if someone claims they deconfirm and have nothing but petty reasoning to their arguments, we should just ignore them. no need to do multi-page venting every time.
Spirits/Assist Trophies don't deconfirm, but it hasn't happened yet either, so all we can do is wait and see.

The lack of news is draining all of us.

The Smash Community isn’t the competitive community, nor is it the speculative community, if both of those completely die out, despite the fact that they most certainly won’t, Smash will still sell more than any fighting game out there. No matter what. His point is kind of moot and only applies MAYBE to the competitive community.

Zero has to get videos out to make money now. You can’t expect everything he says to be gospel.

What's the buzz.
We hope that next week is gonna be the smash nintendo direct and not the 30th.
My guess is a sunday or Tuesday announcement, with Tuesday or thursday being the actual direct.
There´s some numerological crap-sack hypothesis for geno. I wouldn´t bet my heart on that.
I would love Geno, but I´ve been burned by Nintendo too many times to get my hopes up for a kickass e3 from them.
Last year was a fluke. The silence from Nintendo is deafening though. They must at least have one card up their sleeve.

If the direct is next week , I'll be pretty disapointed.
It's litteraly the only week in the month where I won't be available , couple that with timezone... And I don't want to wake up seing a bajillion pings on discord , because it could either mean that the costume is back , or that Geno is playable lol. (Or absolutely nothing at all)
I'm still hopeful for this week.
But after dreaming about the Mallow hat in Smash , I think I really need some kind of answer about Geno , the wait is killing me lol.

---

Smash is losing a bit of interest as of late , since we didn't got an update in a while , and the last two DLC characters (Byleth/ARMS) didn't made people go "HOLY MACARONI".
However , it's still Smash , people are still going to play it. At worst , people are taking a small break from it , especially since online play isn't the most fun experience Ultimate can offer.

And finally... Obligatory Geno fan-art :

I hate watched the Pokemon presentation and now I'm hype as **** for Pokemon Snap sequel. That was Geno tier never-ever.

Also, another Pokemon Presents was announced for next 6/24. I really don't think we need to worry about when Smash news could drop. Seems like it could be any day next week

>another pokemon presentation next week

So is this actually stopping the Smash news or not? Wonder what's keeping it.

I’m betting a Smash reveal will happen Thursday now. But with that, I’m worried that we’ll get Arms and nothing else, which then opens up the Pokémon Presents to reveal another Pokémon rep no one asked for...

Hmm so they said they plan to announce something next week for pokemon on the 24th... could that be during a mini direct?

I think we can safely say that another Pokemon presentation means nothing for Smash.

This was supposed to be E3 time, where a bunch of **** is allowed to come out all at once. It wasn't the presentation today that stopped Smash news this week, instead it was likely the fact that the DLC came out today. We won't have that problem for next week. So everyone stay level-headed

They specifically said it was another "Pokemon Presents", so no, not a mini direct

Now, if they reveal ARMs in the next week, that could give them a chance to tie in character 7 with the Pokemon Direct Part 2 if 7 is indeed a Pokemon rep.

So now I want ARMS to be shown after this next Pokemon showcase.

Welp, there’s gonna be a “Big Project” to be revealed next week which my guess is Diamond and Pearl remakes. I’m probably not gonna have high hopes because of Game Freak’s incompetence and laziness. We want a Pokémon game where we see the Pokémon are actually interacting in the environment like Pokémon Snap, actual animations like Battle Revolution, trees that actually look better than Ocarina of Time, a story that is actually clear, etc. But it’s probably not gonna happen... I think it’s best that I save my 60$ for now.

I already got Mewtwo my all time favorite Pokemon back in Melee so I'm pretty satisfied with the Pokemon roster in Smash. Only other Pokemon I would want is either Deoxys or some ghost type Pokemon like Gengar or Darkrai.
