A Geno Mii Costume pack would be simple (based again on the “leaked list”)

Smithy
Mallow
Chocobo
Secret S-E costume
2B/Chrono/Sephiroth (?)

If they include 6 instead of 5, can be 2 out of the 3 I last mention. 2B and Chrono would be really cool to have and we get representation of 5 S-E IPs (FF, DQ, Mana, Nier and Chrono Trigger)

Smash 3DS also sold way better than the Wii U version, so sales weren't a big deal(Don't forget Smash 3DS was already out quite a long time beforehand). Wii U was doing awful as a system too. They're different outright systems getting a game. There was no competition within the same system.

Switch is getting DLC, and Isle of Armor is the literal "third version" instead of just a remake like ORAS.

They're not similar situations right now. Especially as they're DLC, both majorly new DLC. One is practically its own game while the other is a notable thing for the fans and people are going stir crazy too. They're pretty huge in their own right, even taking over new games like Paper Mario in "importance".

So... I wouldn't say they're alike at all in any way.

BTW, NintendoAmerica is constantly posting Pokemon bits and pieces, so it's safe to say they're focusing on Pokmoen specifically at the moment. It's likely we could get an announcement within next week so two games on the same system don't remotely compete with each other. There's also been... no similar situations with competition. Nintendo has however pulled this before; They refused to let the Wii version of Mortal Kombat Armageddon have online because it came out before Mario Kart Wii(which has online). Which was stupid, but it does show "system competition" has been a thing before. It's not just 3rd party either. They tend to space out reveals/information so the system keeps everything separated. They made sure to spread things out around New Horizons pretty well too.
While you bring up some fair points, I disagree with you on the idea that “they’re not alike in any way”.

We’re pretty much comparing “Other (effectively superior) version of a game recently released and full on remakes of older titles” to “DLC and DLC”. Of course one is going to do better than the other in both scenarios, but I think the fact the former happened at all shows the ladder isn’t impossible.

And your point on the Wii U not doing well. Then why not release Smash Wii U on a different date to kinda help turn around the Wii U rather than releasing it on a date that directly competes with games on an already successful handheld? If the answer is sales of the 3DS version already doing fine enough, well both Ultimate and SWSH sold over 10 million copies, so I’m pretty sure both games DLC will do well (and probably already have with pre purchases).

One thing I didn’t mention before was that both games only released on the same day in North America. Some might think that lessens my point, but NA is still where a lot of sales come from.

I don’t think both DLCs will release on the same day, but both coming out in the same week doesn’t seem crazy when this point shows there’s been much stiffer competition in the past.

If they go the fakeout route ala BK/KKR, they should use the Geno Mii Fighter costume.
Man, can you imagine the salt if they announce the Geno costume returning at the end of the ARMs presentation, and then they actually reveal Geno a few months later anyway?

Correct me if I'm wrong y'all but wasn't Stealth the ******* who some people believe was the one that potentially snitched on Sabi to Nintendo last year before they got the chance to leak Nintendo's E3 Direct?
If he is, I need to thank him personally. My E3 surprise could have been entirely ruined otherwise.

on the mystery mii talk from earlier

i think the most interesting part is the square costume

because iirc fatman once said none of the miis were (at least directly) owned by said companies

now i understand the nintendo costume, it's probably simply referring to a third-party with a lot of nintendo history, same for the sony and microsoft ones

but what characters are associated to square while not actually owned by them and in what way?

this one costume out of the 4 is a real headscratcher in particular to me. because i can't think of any characters who fit that criteria

I really hope to see an announcement tomorrow Tuesday 16th June where marks the 3° year of ARMS. Probably to show up on Thursday 18.

Does Little Mac was announced with his anniversary date also?

While you bring up some fair points, I disagree with you on the idea that “they’re not alike in any way”.
They really aren't alike at all as situations. Smash Wii U was not made to be simply an updated re-release, but the second half of Smash For. ORAS is literally an updated re-release of a game over 5 years ago and that's its whole point.

We’re pretty much comparing “Other (effectively superior) version of a game recently released and full on remakes of older titles” to “DLC and DLC”. Of course one is going to do better than the other in both scenarios, but I think the fact the former happened at all shows the ladder isn’t impossible.
Except Smash Wii U is not a full remake of an older title. It was made with Smash For 3DS at the same time, but one had less content.

Isle of Armor is a DLC meant to emulate the "third game" version. Smash Ultimate's DLC isn't anything close to that idea. Isle of Armor isn't even like Smash Wii U or ORAS. It's not a literal updated re-release either, though it takes a similar role. Keep in mind third versions are not that similar to outright remakes. While they technically are a "remake", the purpose of the third version is to tie the stories of both regular games together while providing more Pokemon to gather. The regular remakes are remakes of older generations to allow for more Pokemon trading and to get older Pokemon. Isle of Armor, in this case, does not outright emulate an older region. It's part of the latest region, Galar. It only is similar to the third versions in practice, and just replaces the concept of third version.

Because the Wii U was already given up on at that point. They already were working on the Switch and the sales of a complete remake of an older region weren't going to much collide with the sales of a console game that would do better in the US on its own. It didn't need a new date because there was no literal competition either. You have to remember the US and Japan regions are different. US loves consoles while Japan loves handhelds. It didn't matter for the US. In Japan, they had to separate the dates for the less popular Wii U version to remotely sell. US? It wasn't hard to get the "cooler version" to sell due to the GameCube Controller alone. Don't forget they also advertised that. ORAS also got its own unique advertising with the tech demo. Neither, again, clashed with each other due to being on different systems.

One thing I didn’t mention before was that both games only released on the same day in North America. Some might think that lessens my point, but NA is still where a lot of sales come from.
Actually, it shows that it only works in the US. However, that's because consoles rule the US market while handhelds aren't as popular. However, now that's there only consoles, they can't pull that again.

I don’t think both DLCs will release on the same day, but both coming out in the same week doesn’t seem crazy when this point shows there’s been much stiffer competition in the past.
I'd be surprised if we got it this week. They are directly competing with each other due to being on the same system. That's not what happened with ORAS and Smash Wii U. Though I forget when Smash 3DS and the previous Pokemon games came out(X/Y). I think those were the same or different dates?

I doubt we'll get a release for the DLC this week, but the announcements/reveals are another story. It doesn't make sense to hold the reveals off all the way to the end of the month, especially when you remember they've got only 9 days left in the month to get this done

Sora isn't the costume. Fatman explicitly said none of his disclosed costumes were super big fan requests like Steve or Sora, so hold your horses guys.

Don't worry, it isn't Sora.

But who do you think will come along with the Arms rep? I see a few Arms costumes along with a couple of surprises and the secret Nintendo costume Fatman mentioned.

Again, for those that are waiting for the announcement. I say that either Tuesday or Wednesday will be the case if the Tournament isn't what keeping people and Nintendo busy full time.

As someone who has never played Super Mario RPG, I'm probably not the most qualified to talk about which environments I think are boring/interesting. However, just looking from the outside in, I actually agree with the sentiments that the Forest Maze is a touch boring compared to the other environments that could he included. Now I'm not saying the Forest Maze would be a bad stage to include, but personally I'd rather have Star Road, Smithy's Weapon Factory (both of these are unlikely to happen I feel), or my personal favorite...

View attachment 274850

So while I haven't played the game, as I said, this environment and setup is really cool to me. The idea of Mario and Bowser fighting atop bright chandeliers as Bowser's Castle is blacked-out in the background aside from the gleam of its windows... just cool I tell ya. Especially since this is the beginning of the game from what I've heard. Sakurai typically doesn't include late game areas, but it would be cool if we finally got a Bowser's Castle stage (something I know quite a few people want) and we got to fight in this environment!

(I think the stage will probably the Forest Maze though. And while it personally isn't my favorite choice, it makes sense that it'd be chosen)
for someone who hasn't played the game this is a remarkably good take. i also think the chandeliers at the beginning would be excellent - and you could hit the chain chomps to make the platforms fall

So which Mii costumes do you guys expect to come along with the Arms rep? As I said before, I'm expecting a few Arms characters, a couple of surprises and the secret Nintendo costume Fatman mentioned.

Honestly, if Heihachi isn't playable, he's most likely here, not on a Bamco character. I could see it unlocking the Spring Man and Ribbon Girl costumes automatically as a bonus if you didn't buy them in the in-game shop. Maybe we'd finally get some Street Fighter costumes? There's also some Punch-Out!! options like Doc Louis, Mr. Dream, or King Hippo.

Not much I can think of other than throwing some randoms in.

I'm expecting a grab bag of various Nintendo related costumes they decided to do after the game shipped (It's no coincidence there were no first-party DLC mii costumes unlike Smash 4, they got all the stuff they wanted in the base-game since they actually planned stuff this time) and a couple misc third parties. What IS interesting is if any of the third-party costumes return, given that every character besides Hero (HMMMM) has returned with 2 so far. Neither the Square or Namco costumes really make sense to not have shown up already, so that really just leaves the two Monster Hunter ones. It just depends on how they decide to handle it.

Right, right. Completely forgot about that! Man, my memory is just dog**** today...

I think their Mii Costumes will be comparable to Byleth's in the way that it'll mostly if not entirely be a grab bag of random costumes, and there'll only be five of them. The first two will either be 1-2 ARMS characters, an ARMS character and a random Nintendo character, or two random third party costumes. The third and fourth will be the two Monster Hunter costumes. Almost every wave has come with two returning costumes from Smash 4, and since SquareEnix historically doesn't release their stuff alongside other companies and we're likely to get a Namco character somewhere down the line, I think we're more likely than not getting them here. And rounding up the rear, following in the footsteps of Sans and Cuphead before them, the fifth costume will be another indie character. Not sure who this would be, but I'm hoping it's Madeline from Celeste.

I really do believe these missing Mii costumes are hinting at another Namco rep, Square rep, and Capcom rep. Especially a Namco rep.

  • Ryu (Ninja Gaiden)
  • Sol Badguy (Guilty Gear)
  • Monster Hunter (Monster Hunter)
  • Rathalos (Monster Hunter)
  • Knight (Hollow Knight)

inb4 we learn of the ARMS character as soon as we boot up SSBU on the Nintendo Switch, and are prompted with a required software update. Boot up the game, and the flash screen with the ARMS character pops up.

What's funny about this is that I can no longer completely rule this out since there's now a new goddamn Alex Kidd game coming out.

My Arms Mii costume predictions:

- Twintelle
- Max Brass
- Dr. Coyle
- secret Nintendo costume Fatman mentioned

I have no slight idea who the other two could potentially be though.

Also just so you don't confuse people you should probably refer to the Monster Hunter costumes by their actual names, particularly Rathalos so people who forgot SSB4 was a thing don't think it's gonna be a Rathalos fursuit (scalesuit?).

Are people seriously giving up on an announcement this week just because it didn't happen on the first day?

Geno BOI.png

I don't know if y'all are hyper pessimistic or just being contrarian but give it at least until Wednesday. It's still very likely to happen this week.

No, people are giving up on this week because they didn't announced the Direct or presentation coming tomorrow because tomorrow is Arms' 3rd anniversary.
