Well if DK and Metroid do end up coming, then at least I'll have two NEW things to be excited about this year because this Paper Mario isn't doing anything for me right now.

You know, as someone who doesn't give a damn about Fire Emblem and is interested in Paper Mario and Advance Wars, it's kinda aggravating seeing one franchise seeing major success, while the others either keep getting super experimental or get abandoned.
There is a reason why Intelligent System did such a massive change with Advance Wars Dark Fate/Days of Ruin compared with the previous three and that¨s because the decline in sales. Had the "reboot" doing bonkers like Awakening did for Fire Emblem, then Advance Wars would keep going on

For some reason, the beginning of the PM: TOK trailer with the origami Peach talking ominously to Mario, made me think of Undertale. That scene felt pretty dark. Also, not to go in too deep with conspiracy theorizing but... the new extendable arms ability that Mario gains, the Samus's helmet easter egg (as well as the Donkey Kong head)... could they have all been intentionally shown in this trailer as a preview of things to come outside of PM: TOK?

Markomaro said a new DK platformer was going to be one of the big 2020 games back in November:

https://mobile.twitter.com/newmarkomaro/status/1190952022813675521?lang=en

He was also the person that broke the Paper Mario rumor in November:

https://mobile.twitter.com/Newmarkomaro/status/1190947856875741184
But the rumor states it's a 64 Remake, not "Sticker Star 3". So i think this was just a lucky guess at best.

Also, i don't know why people are surprised about a new Paper Mario game, those games always had a 3-5 year release cycle.

Yo what did you all think about the Paper Mario: Origami King trailer? Personally, I am mixed on it. I like how it seems to being going back to the original style which is ALWAYS a great thing to see, but I kinda wish we had more original characters. But overall, I'm pretty excited.

Also, this adds credibility to the fact that Nintendo may just drop random trailers online. One of these days, we could possibly get the reveal of this ARMS rep and Challenger Pack 7 shadowdropped without us even knowing, which has me kinda excited. :D

While you're right about the release cycle of PM games... Most people didn't expected a new game after how god awful and tonedeaf Color Splash reception and sales were.

If you go through the rest of the thread, I don't think it was a lucky guess. He also broke the Metroid rumor in this thread too:

He also was the person who correctly said a Mystery Dungeon remaster was happening too.

The new Paper Mario looks good, though I do wish the paper aspect wasn’t focused on so much and just have it be how it was in the first three games, only referenced in some moves and jokes or whatever, but I guess the paper aspect focusing isn’t that bad as long as the story is still good. Tbh I kinda like it but it’s still kinda weird ngl especially when it seems to be the main point of some characters instead of just them being made of paper.

I noticed a new form of partners in the trailer, like an origami Bowser face following Mario, and Mario being accompanied by Bowser Jr. and Kamek (though I guess these two likely aren’t partners edit: nvm I guess they are), but Mario doesn’t have any of them with him in battle; I wonder what they do, then?

edit: nvm partners in battle are back indeed, just in a menu or something. OC Toads are also back it seems, even if there’s also generic ones stealing the main Toad’s look.

Well , it look like partners will be stuck to story and puzzle purposes.
Also , this is apparently the list of partners :

I don't know how to feel about Origami King. At least it has a unique villain and not just Bowser and the koopalings like every Mario RPG since Dream Team. It looks like there are partners in the story but not in combat which is better than nothing I guess. The Bob bomb is so generic though. They couldn't have at least just made him a different color and given him a hat or something? Not that hard to make him at least not just a literal generic bobomb. Combat system seems unclear. Maybe stickers are back again? Maybe level ups are back? I don't know. I want to give it the benefit of the doubt, and it at least looks better than the last two, but a return to form this is not.

So, this has been posted in a server I'm in. Thoughts? I've never seen this art before...

Edit: Nevermind, I found the source for the Geno image. Area looks really nice though, I'll give them that.

I think it's too early to judge how this new Paper Mario game will be. I was excited when the notification popped up on my phone, but I'm kinda uninspired now after watching and thinking about it. I did notice no partners in battles so that makes me pretty uninterested unfortunately as even just having only Mario and Luigi despite the cool combos they could do in M&L games just didn't feel like enough even though I enjoyed the M&L games. Hopefully, the games have enough redeeming qualities, but I'll be holding off for now. The beginning scene was pretty awesome at least and I won't have to wait long to determine if the game is for me or not. The blatant Metroid nod and the extendo arms are interesting components of the trailer. Watch it not even be nods to other games but in reality Samus and Spring Man join your party in this new Paper Mario lol.

The big thing, as some people have already mentioned, is that this kind of corroborates some rumors that have been circulating and that bodes well for other rumors...possibly Geno related rumors? But basically it's still just wait and see (and for me wait my whole life for Metroid Prime 4).

From the perspective of someone who has not played a Paper Mario game, but has experienced them through other means, I am cautiously optimistic about Origami King. It's certainly not a return to form, but it is seemingly taking steps towards being more in line with Paper Mario games pre-Sticker Star.

OK! New Paper Mario! And unsurprisingly we all seem to have mixed feelings...

Well, this game doesn't look like a great fit to reintroduce Geno. Bowser does join you, his army does get co-opted by a new villain, and there is a Metroid cameo, which are all SMRPG things! But--while we don't know this--there's really no evidence the game has party members at all, or even original characters besides the titular origami king.

But the timing is great, assuming the June E3ish Direct is still on. This would be a perfect chance to show another trailer of the game featuring Paper Geno and revealing his Smash DLC. Or, the Smash reveal could lead followed by some kind of PM DLC quest featuring him.

So I’m just trying to spread this info around as much as possible, in the Chinese version of the Paper Mario trailer you can see the explorer Toad accompanying Mario in battle

Tbh , I might just buy both games. Bug fables is a 100% buy for me , I'll see how things evolve for King Origami.

Wow ! That's a great find ! I'm honestly getting more and more hopeful.
... Kind of weird that they missed the opportunity to use Captain Toad , tho.

Would be cool to see Geno and other Mario RPG characters make cameos in the game.

Good find, man! I was just about to point out how the combat portions happened in areas where Mario was alone.

Will note, I think Origami King is the first time there has been such an obvious Samus cameo in a Mario RPG since SMRPG.

Yes, ignoring the scrapped café cameo in Super Star Saga.

Really hyped about the cameo btw.

As I'm not a huge Paper Mario fan, I am pretty optimistic with this title. I played Sticker Star for an hour, was incredibly underwhelmed. This game looks like the complete opposite. This game looks fun and I hope the world is seamless and not in levels like Sticker Star. I'm gonna remain optimistic about this and not write it off just yet.

Broke: CP 6 ARMS character to promote new ARMS game.

Woke: CP 6 ARMS character to promote Paper Mario: The Origami King's 1,000 Arms ability.

It's just a joke.

New game it seems. Story and writing seem to be shaping up good, the whole origami invasion plot is actually a bit unnerving, and while we haven't seen much of the combat what we have seen looks somewhat promising. That said, I'm still peeved we don't have any new original characters. How ****ing hard is it to give some of these Toads or Bob-Ombs or whatever a different color, outfit, hat, or change their design in any goddamn way? At this point I'm willing to believe that it's just like one dude on the dev team has a fetish for generic, mass-produced people and feels the need to channel that kink through Paper Mario games specifically.

Overall I'm cautiously optimistic about this one.

... Kind of weird that they missed the opportunity to use Captain Toad , tho.
And that's another thing that pisses me off about all this. They feel compelled to only use pre-established Mario characters for 95% of the cast, yet they almost never bother to utilize the more obscure characters like Wart or Tatanga. Or any of the older Paper Mario characters, for that matter.

One thing to know : In Color Splash , Birdo , Petey Piranha , the dragon from Captain Toad and the Koopalings were there , and were pretty well used. (Seriously , for how much **** the koopalings get , they were super well used in that game)

For all we know , we could see more re occuring characters.
I howver don't want the return of the old partners ; Their stories are tied so heavily to where they come , and their story arc are over. However , some kind of post-game boss battle against all of them would be pretty cool.

- More paper puns and jokes *groan*
- The same art style as SS/CS *groan*
- Badges and *actual* partners nowhere to be seen *GROOOOOOOOAN*

This is legitimately not funny. That trailer was awful. If there's no badges, Paper Mario is dead since that's what *made* the combat system, along with partners with their unique kits.

I am so thoroughly disappointed that my entire day is ruined.

we really need a second trailer to see how the combat really work. Especially with all the talks about potential partners.

I honestly think the game may have a lotn to show us , but I agree with you , the badges , partners , and simple numbers are what made PM 64/TTYD combat so amazing.

OK, but you need to play the first 3 games though, you are seriously missing out.

First 2 honestly. SPM is skippable because it's too different (and frankly, boring) and I don't care what people say about the story; it's fine, but it's really nothing all that special.

Thank you.

Super Paper Mario is honestly underrated, even nowadays after Sticker Star was released. It easily stands alongside the first two games in quality, and doesn't deserve to be lumped in with Sticker Star and Color Splash as one of the "bad" Paper Mario games.

Just gonna go ahead and say I called it
Again, people are forgetting Nintendo has been announcing a bunch of stuff on Twitter recently. We got a bunch of updates to the Xenoblade remake and a giant update for Super Mario Maker 2. I genuinely wouldn't be surprised if they forgo the live events and just stick to dropping their games on Twitter until the world situation gets better.
