Nintendo really missed out on the opportunity to add the Super Mario RPG game to the SNES NSO Library on both anniversaries (JP release which was in March, and now the NA release in May). :( I blame Exor for using that ACCURSED move.

I still find that tweet celebrating the 22nd year to be odd. Nothing before and nothing after. Its just so......random.

Well Nintendo didn't say anything about SMRPG, but only because it'd be too obvious for sure. ;)
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I could've sworn Yoko Shimomura did an interview for SMRPG's 24th anniversary (In Japan, so back in March). If there's a random 24th anniversary interview but no mention by Nintendo that is kinda odd

Thinking about this anniversary for SMRPG made me realize how odd the silence is gonna be once it's over. When Geno does eventually get in, after over 24 years of progress and determination pays off... then what?

Well, then we await his release. However, I will still root for my other most wanted, Crash Bandicoot, if he isn't included before Geno. After Crash and Geno, the only other character I would really want is Waluigi, but I wouldn't be disappointed or upset if he doesn't make it unlike Crash Or Geno.

then what?
Then what for who?
- For us?: Good question. I'll finally be able to get the hell on with my life and stop obsessing over a star spirit-possessed doll from some "boomer" game I have nostalgia for. The thread will likely be changed to "Geno Smash talk and other things like general Nintendo news and rumors".
- For Geno?: Hopefully more, but if not, he got in Smash and honestly that's good enough for me, but I would then want to push for SMRPG on NSO assuming it's not out yet, as I've wanted an official way to play SMRPG portably for as long as VC has existed.

Yeah... Nintendo is full of mystery... AKA: "A Very Nintendo Move".

Let’s wait until June. We have been in this fight since more than 2 decades. There is nothing wrong waiting 20-25 days for a potential reveal of character #77 and even more Smash news.

I don’t have any solid proof to tell you that Geno is joining the battle. But I don’t have any doubt either.

For me, he is 100% there. I’m ALL IN since the beginning of Ultimate.

Okay so I remembered that i had a SNES Classic somewhere in the house. While I've seen the support for Geno in things like this Thread, Animations (like Smash Kingdom), Fan Mods and Games, etc, I never really seen him ingame like that, So I'm gonna play Super Mario RPG for the first time. What am i getting myself into?

Wel all join the Genocord and raid EVO while Geno whirling every top player of course :4pacman:

For real tho , this thread may get silent , but we will get a new one along the playable fighters. And then we also have Star Road to talk.
The speculation ride will be over , and a new era will start for our beloved puppet.

I feel like the next Geno-related goal would just be him appearing in other Mario games (RPGs, Kart, Party, etc.). As far as Smash goes, I've mentioned the other characters I'm after, before, but I feel like what I actually want next from Smash is an anime/OVA. We've seen glimpses of what that might look like, before, with Link Vs. Pit, and I feel like it might be something Nintendo might actually look into, considering I believe they've made statements recently about wanting to do adaptations of their IPs in other media. ..Which would also likely mean that we'd probably only get the original 12 in an anime aside from cameos due to ownership of third parties and such, but.. I'd still take it. Seeing Mario and Link and Samus team up in an animated series would be nice, honestly, since it's been ages since Mario and Link had cartoons, and never for Samus.

So is anyone worried they might add Paper Mario now?
I'm worried that they will base him on the more recent games , so absolutely nobody would win.

Because the first 3 games were great. If he's based primarly on them + a tiny bit of the other games , sure why not , but please don't make him funny paper man. Paper Mario just deserve better.

That would suck. We already have 2 Mario’s in the game. We’re still missing the Geno costume and the other leaked SMRPG ones as well and SE is likely doing another character. So my hopes are still there for Geno.

As you know, Nintendo has just announced the New Paper Mario, but I must say 3 things:
-I honestly don't know if it's classic style (as rumored) or not
-The revelation theories out of nowhere are real
- Is this what Nate Drake was referring to?

They showed the combat. It's very much like PM1 and 2.
And the combat they did show, just gave me Sticker Star flashback, so yeah I¨m worried too
I...
I have bad news...

They litteraly went back to solo Paper Mario with the stickers... Seriously Nintendo , this isn't even funny.
It pain me because it's obvious a lot of work was put into the game , but this combat system is straight up flawed.

PLEASE , GIVE US AT LEAST A REAL LEVEL UP SYSTEM , PLEASE

EDIT : MY B , THE SHINY BOOTS MAY BE AN EQUIPPABLE EQUIPMENT OR UPGRADES TO THE BOOTS :

Stepping out of the shadows for a second...JULY!?!?!?! That is a lot sooner than I thought! I would like to see a bit more combat, but I do not get any sticker star vibes from this.

EDIT: ^ Ahhh missed that. Perhaps it can be a mix of SS and classic.

So much for Paper Mario returning to form... I rather have a Super Paper Mario sequel than a Sticker Star sequel. There is some mumbling that they changed Sticker Star the last minute due to "it has to have an identity of its own"... and concidering we are now going from stickers, to color splash, to now having Origami.... yeah... I can see it being real

Well, I wasn't expecting news of a new Paper Mario title to drop like this. The gameplay looks okay, doesn't really look or feel that much like Sticker Star

...Uh, Color Splash has a real level up system. You level up your amount of actual paint at the end of battle. That's far more than "finding an item to increase your HP". The only game that didn't have a real level up system is Sticker Star alone.

Super Paper Mario didn't even have badges, and no actual Paper Mario game allowed you to level up attack power specifically either. Paper Mario has never had a traditional level up system to begin with. It was always very very different in multiple ways. The only two games to share the same kind of system were the first two. Every single one otherwise had their own system(Sticker Star did have one, via story, to give you more stickers. This is still a level up system in itself, but it's... honestly not that great when battles are meaningless too. At least in Color Splash, finishing a battle was very meaningful). I won't deny CS's level up system is a bit mediocre, but it's still quiiiiiiite real.

I know multiple rpg's where leveling up is only a specific statistic, not everything, at once. That doesn't mean it lacks a real level up system. The important thing that a real level up system is that it's through battle specifically. Or, well, a more traditional one. Cause if you can improve any stat, it's "real" in some way. Inventory effectively counts since it's a form of giving you more options/abilities in battle, you know?

My main problem with CS level up is that it's so minor. The only noticable level up were the paint star upgrading your HP.

By traditionnal I meant your PM1/2 level up system , either HP , FP , or BP.
And I don't mind it for SPM , because it's an adventure game before anything else.

I'd definitely call CS a Traditional Level Up system.

Being minor doesn't really change that it's through battle. That's what a Traditional Level Up system is to begin with. You battle to earn experience to "level up". It's not really all that different, just less stats to level up.

I agree it's not as good as it could be. But we don't know what this game will hold yet. The battle system is so far looking really neat.

Yeah , it's there , but I feel like it was just too minor to matter.

From what it seem , they at least allow us to use our basic attack without spending ressources , and have the spectators from TTYD wich is a step in the right direction. Maybe they took the CS structure , but changed the combats ?

Well I didn't doubt the leak of a new paper mario, but I knew this return to form stuff was going to be too good to be true. So I'll hold judgement for the game itself until release but frankly I've had absolutely zero faith in paper mario since CS dropped and it seems like that's never going to change. Now I still believe in geno but I'd be lying if I wasn't a little worried paper mario could take his slot. As I brought up a long ass time ago paper mario is probably the most popular character besides simon that I never saw any support here on SB for and if we dig up the old ballot compilation data paper mario was able to beat geno at almost every turn. Honestly I've always been a fan of paper mario since playing TTYD and was in support of his inclusion from brawl onward, however I feel like at this point it's just going to be a wario situation where he would be derived almost solely from the modern material and the content he brings would be focused mostly on sticker star/color splash/origami king. Like I said I'm not giving up on geno until the bitter end but our next erdrick has definitely arisen.

The more paint you have, the more you can use various items. I wouldn't call that minor either. It's just not as "huge" as previous games. So kind of a mediocre amount of difference.

From what it seem , they at least allow us to use our basic attack without spending ressources , and have the spectators from TTYD wich is a step in the right direction. Maybe they took the CS structure , but changed the combats ?
No resources for basic moves? Okay, that fixes literally the biggest issue with the "card" system. Cause honestly, that's the only thing I felt was off about the combat to begin with.

Worth noting I know that the CS system has a traditional level up cause I watched a full LP of it. I'm also aware of its amazing writing(SS sadly had pretty bad writing, oy). Though I won't deny that who the bad guy was in CS felt eh(I'll not spoil it, but I felt the writing didn't work only in that case).

I think Bowser is supposed to help in battle in some way, though. That giant turtle was saw during the trailer seemed like him. I also find Paper Mario's origami arms interesting as is. He hasn't been able to stretch his arms yet till now. Just fold up at best and use semi-magical items.

Ive never played paper mario except for once trying to emulate the thousand year door on my laptop and the fact that its already super obvious this has nothing to do with geno leaves me with no hype/excitement whatsoever but thats just my opinion.

YOOOOOOOOOO HOLY **** A NEW PAPER MARIO GAME! AND IT'S... strikingly similar to Color Splash, largely focuses on paper gimmicks, seems to mostly only make use of the traditional Mario cast of characters and baddies and still has a highly questionable battle system.

... man, it's not even that the game looks bad, I'm sure it must be enjoyable in its own right, but "return to form" my ass.

This about sums up my feelings on the matter. Whether its a good or bad game doesn't even matter to me anymore the series has just shifted direction so hard it's just not the paper mario I was sold on anymore and it makes it hard to care.
