We could end up getting the ARMS presentation sometime this month, with it's release being announced for early next month. If they do such a thing, do you all think that Fighter 7 will be shown off during the presentation (this month), a potential ton of Nintendo news (next month), or would they save it for a direct (around September).
I personally think that even if we get a potential presentation this month, we'll still be waiting until next month to see Fighter 7 news. The only exception I can see being is if they just namedrop the series the character is from, but there isn't that many series that could be applied to successfully.
Speaking of which, how would you all feel if they just said that Fighter 7 is "from the Mario series"?
Sakurai said June and he's a pretty big stickler for not changing dates unless he absolutely has to and then he apologizes profusely as well as make this known months in advance. My personal prediction is that they're just going to do a Smash Direct based on past precedent. Why?
-Smash is an attention black hole and Nintendo is very aware of this. When Nintendo attaches something Smash, no matter how vague or small, to a presentation it tends to steal the show. This is why Smash presentations are even a thing and, Ultimate being on its second year of DLC, they're probably wanting it to not hog the spotlight as much. Truth be told, it is kind of unfair to other developers and why I think they'll just do a separate presentation.
-In 2015, Smash 4 was on its third E3. Nintendo decided to do a separate Smash presentation that year to give focus to other games.
-Covid-19 has honestly wrecked a lot to the point that Sakurai now has to make presentations at home pretty much by himself. I will be genuinely surprised if we get seperate showcases for everyone like the Fighter's Pass got. I think they're going to consolidate to some degree and reduce Season 2 to maybe 3 presentations.
-The bar is set incredibly low to where getting at least two character announcements by the end of the summer is a basic expectation. I'm guessing three, four if my theory about multiple bonus characters winds up being right. I say this because 6 was already half introduced and the last two times this happened, 2015 and 2018, we ended up getting two other characters with them. Like I've pointed out in the past, 6 of the 8 E3s where Smash had a presence had at least three character announcements so it's not too far flung of a prediction.
-Smash reveals at E3 have been shown to be pretty deliberate, often bringing along at least one universally wanted character and one that really resonates with Western audiences. For example, 2018 had Ridley and 2019 had Banjo. My theory is that we're getting two "Western" characters in Season 2 and this "E3" is definitely a litmus test for this theory. If we're getting any Western characters, my theory is that E3 is the definite place for the first, or possibly only, one of Season 2 to show up.
