Kings, queens, and other present royalty; take care of each other during these times. I know we're all here because of vidya games and Geno but it's important to keep this comraderie alive. Obviously, the mods will harumph people posting about personal woes thanks to Corona but don't be afraid to talk about them in DMs or on Discord. For obvious reasons, morale's going to be in the ****ter for a number of months so even if it's just kicking each other's asses in WiFi battles, keep coming here and keep actively engaging with each other. Live up to the mantle "Geno-bros" and keep up this sense of connection no matter how bad things get.

Well , I think that , at best , Fighter 6 is done , so we get a reveal trailer for the next Nintendo direct , but the release will be later.

It would allow to generate some hype and help the sales of Fighter Pass 2 , even if they can't release much content for it now.

So yeah , as someone else said here , it's the best time to take a break from speculation. Because at best , I see us getting a Nintendo direct next week , and nothing until a few months , so the coronavirus is took under control.

So , to lighten up the mood , I needed some advices :
I started a new run on SMRPG. (I just defeated Punchinello)

However , I really wonder , what are the best equipments I can give to Mallow right now ? I admit that it's slowly starting to become hard for him to keep up , he's not that much tanky compared to Mario , and his damage is still low.
I know that he's supposed to be focused on defense/special defense while being a mage , but is there any way I can improve his damage a tiny bit more ? (Especially his magic attack)

So, given we don’t get anything more after Fighter 6 for a while, and Fighter 6 is Geno himself. How satisfied would you all be before the Fighter after Geno does come out?
Honestly if Geno was the next fighter I think I could wait half a year or more for the next character. I'm not joking.

They could tell us that #6 is Geno and release him and I wouldn't care if they canned the rest of the second Fighters Pass. I'd still pay the 30 bucks for the whole thing, too.

The presentation approval bit of Sakurai's Famitsu column has made me more interested on who the next character is. From the way Sakurai spoke of it, it sounded like he was trying to meet up with a 3rd party developer outside of Japan. I know he could be talking about a developer from Japan, but to me the context of it sounds kind of like negotiations for a western character.
But he also mentions how he would also like to meet with partners in Kyoto too. So it could still be an eastern character, let alone a Nintendo character.

Well hopefully they will at least reveal who the next fighter is, even if they can’t show them off in actual gameplay. Just to give us something.

Same. Give me Geno and I'd be good. I could even wait a year and still know that the FP2 would be worth it.

If this is truly the case, the FP is done for me. Put 5 Urshifu variants on there and I'd still be a happy camper. Anything past Geno that I relatively want is a bonus.

(and for anyone who has seen my tweets in the past you probably know how much I'd hate to see Urshifu, let alone 5 of them)

I'd rather protect Sakurai at all costs during the pandemic and hope he doesn't get the virus than risk him creating more fighters for us. Overworking can cause your immune system to be weakened and we know that Sakurai is a dedicated overworker.

Just for fun, I was thinking about past Smash titles and how they handled unlocking characters. One of the things that I found really fun about the first two Smash titles in my experience was how I didn't know about what characters were in the game until I unlocked them. Of course it's really different today given how much access we have to information with Direct presentations and how they like to show us what characters are confirmed to appear as a fighter.

But going on these thoughts it had me thinking: If Geno had appeared as far back as Brawl, what do you think would have been a fun method for unlocking him?

To me, he definitely seems like one of those characters that would be really well hidden or take a long time to unlock in some form, because the payoff reminds me of somebody you wouldn't expect if you were an outsider of Smash. The best way I can describe it personally is playing the original Smash on the N64 and unlocking characters like Ness and Captain Falcon, or Melee with Marth and Roy. It was the surprise of the unfamiliar that made it interesting for me, and it would introduce people to game franchises that were previously unknown to them.

I haven't played Subspace Emissary in such a long time, but off the top of my head a maze somewhere in one of the forest areas would have been a really cool method for unlocking him. Maybe a specific pattern of navigating through doors and caves similar to the original Forest Maze with branching paths. Another could have something to do with outer space, and navigating to find a secret star which would lead to Geno's star possessing the doll and coming to life as a fighter in deciding to help the players out.

I always pictured Geno showing up in the forest area where Link and Yoshi team up and Link at first mistaking him for Skull Kid before they all team up

I miss the days where the only way we could find out who was in the game was playing through it. Unlocking Mewtwo in Melee for the first time was a magical experience I think I will never see again.

Edit: But about Geno's unlock method or appearance in Subspace Emissary?

- Play 2000 matches in multiplayer mode.

- Clear Classic Mode on Very Hard with Mario, Peach, and Bowser with no continues.

- Geno comes out of nowhere to help DK, Diddy, Captain Falcon, Ness, and R.O.B. to fight off the R.O.B. army than he joins your party.

Well, if life decides to pump the brakes on being complete ass then we should only be a few days away from a Direct announcement. The Fighter's Pass 2 card goes on sale on Monday so 6 being announced next week would honestly be great because, in my own life, in-person classes are cancelled until the fall so now the whole damn town is going to largely empty out nearly two months early... Wheeeeeeee...

6 - Arms of Geno
7 - Right leg of Geno
8 - Body of Geno
9 - Left leg of Geno
10 - Fire Emblem character again
11 - Head of Geno
Actually imagine if they pulled a Marvel Legends and made each Fighter Pack come with a part of Geno:

7-2B with right leg of Geno
8-Sol Badguy with body of Geno
9-Travis Touchdown with left leg of Geno
10-Master Chief/Steve with arms of Geno
11-Phoenix Wright with head of Geno

Then by buying all the fighters you assemble all the parts and you get Fighter 12: Geno himself.

Hire me Hasbro.

If number 10 isn't litteraly Exor t-posing , I'm going to be sad.
Oh I get it, it's because Exor is always a T-pose, because he's a sword. /jokeexplainer

I'm just gonna laugh hysterically if we don't get a direct w/ 6's reveal next week. At this point, it's been beyond long enough for the direct, as it'll have been 203 days between directs, and 2 months is enough time to leave us in suspense for FP2.

>Me and a couple other intellectuals explain how this likely only affects Fighters that are in certain stages of development and thus we shoudl still get a couple fighters sooner rather than later.
>Everyone in the thread skips over that and is manically convinced that the whole pass has been pushed back.

And you all wonder why I don't hold back anymore...

I hope that if we do get a character reveal in a possible Direct next week, I hope that even if it's not Geno, it's the most amazing knock your socks of character Sakurai and Nintendo could have picked given the current situation we're all in right now.

Don't worry, we'll get Geno in a week and then the thread dies out for speculation.

I don't know who they would possibly be thinking of showing off right away considering that they had these reveals planned, so assuming we're getting a June direct, any reveals there would still be "E3 reveals". I'm just hoping it's some kind of Spirit/AT promotion because that's the best way to kick off a new season pass: Eliminating fan-rules that cuck speculation a lot.

Nintendo needs to sell the pass. And to do that they need to have a break out character like Joker from the get-go otherwise, people aren't interested. And leaving people without a character for too long will make them less likely to buy the Pass. So waiting until E3 to reveal a character at all when they started selling the pass in January is a bad idea. So am I not sure Geno would be the first character revealed due to this deduction.

But this is Nintendo. Making odd decisions like that comes with the territory sometimes.

Not what I said. They'll reveal one next week after they start selling the physical pass for sure (assuming we're GETTING a direct next week...); Joker was more of a "wow that's surprising" more than a fan demanded favorite that, from what I saw, just really blew open speculation. Geno or Waluigi would definitely do the same as a first pick, and then you could save even bigger reveals like Crash for E3.

I'd love it if Geno was revealed next week. Even if he didn't come out until fall, I think the focus given to him would be fantastic.

On the other hand, I think given people are irritable from being quarantined, and Geno's relative lack of popularity amongst general gamers, I could see a very negative reaction to him. Just look at what reaction the PS5 Deep Dive had amongst general gamers despite being labeled as such.

It wouldn't be any worse than Terry, arguably the "worst" reaction (BESIDES Byleth who is an outlier for obvious reasons) of FP1. TBH though I don't think it'd be that bad of a reaction. If they really wanted to avoid that, they could show off both 6 and 7 since, well, they probably should at this point given how bad Nintendo is starting off 2020 so far. AC is cool, great. But it doesn't excuse the rest of these last 2.5 months.

I also didn't watch the PS5 thing because I don't give a crap about Sony (or Microsoft for that matter), so I apologize that I don't know what you're talking about.

The pass had an estimated time frame that extended to December 2021, I am curious how much of that holds true now. It’s possible any obstacles during development could have already been accommodated in that forecast. However I wonder why such a large difference compared to the first pass. Was it ever stated?

Throwing a character in like Geno would help alleviate the difficulties that come with modeling and animating for sure.

It basically was a GDC presentation on the overview of PS5 hardware supposed to given in private before GDC was cancelled. So Sony decided to stream it. It gets REALLY technical. Like talking about compression and decompression programs, hardware accelerators, 3D audio stuff, etc.
