Sorry this got lost in the bunch but I wanted to address something that I'm sure a lot of people have noticed. My avatar doesn't have a Geno hat because I don't want it to seem like it was my idea. People accuse me of being a cult leader and I like that the Geno hat has become this symbol of comraderie here. You all deserve the credit for making it a thing and I don't want people to think it was my idea. It's a Geno fanbase thing, not a "Fatman thing." Again, to quote Comrade Sanders, "not me, us" and I want that distinction to stay intact.

Fatman, you’re a good man. You care a lot about this fanbase. If that makes you a cult leader in some people’s eyes so be it, but I think a lot of us here agree that it makes you a great guy and a respectable leader, even if you don’t want that title.

fatman confirmed the jon snow of the geno fanbase (Can I make GoT references here or are we still unhappy about the finale? I know I am >:[ )

Woah, **** got crazy when I left.

Okay, my stance is, I don't think appearing in another fighting game prior to Smash is a death blow for a character's chances (at least not inherently) since many characters in Smash have already been in fighters, but that's all I'll say on the matter.

Anyways, Geno is cool.

Hmm...at bare minimum, how many of the alternate capes that Geno gets in Super Mario RPG do you think will make the cut as alternate color palletes in Ultimate?

As long as he gets the Star Cape as an alternate costume so he can match with Mario, we’re all good Nintendo.

But honestly I can’t see all of the ones with complex patterns like the Fire and Happy capes returning just because it might be annoying to implement. But man I hope they all make the cut

I can clearly see why extended discussions of other characters is being limited by moderator rules, because as soon as you bring up another character - and Squeenix characters especially, with Sora, 2B and Lara Croft all as recent examples - and so much as dare imply in the same sentence that Geno may have a better shot of getting into Ultimate first before them, it becomes a madhouse in here. Of all the characters to be discussed, those three take the cake in terms of people driving off-topic discussions for extended periods of time.
While I totally get your point, I feel it's inevitable that such characters will be brought up in a Smash bros speculation thread since their chances directly correlate to Geno's. That means that the discussion isn't off topic as long as it's a legitimate discussion of Smash inclusion viability. If people can't deal with that, then that's THEIR problem, not ours.

Yeah, Fire, Happy, and Star Capes are pretty much a must

Oh Jesus, why did you have to remind me of that abomination of both a game and representation of both Pac-Man and Megaman. I think I might vomit now.

Interestingly enough, he was a Playstation exclusive character. Also, it was actually well over two years between the release of SFxTK before Smash 4 came out, so it is possible that there were some exclusivity rights in regards to SFxTK, but at the same time...it's a crossover game featuring Namco, so it REALLY doesn't fall under this at all.

Remember, the thing to meet is: A character who is not Ryu or Terry (I would almost count Heihachi in this as well, but he hasn't been a guest character all that much), who is not part of a game who's base design is around a crossover of different companies, that has shown up in different games by different companies without an expansive amount of time in between appearances.

I can't speak for Fatman here, but my argument has always excluded crossover games like MvC, SFxTK, Blazblue Cross-Tag Battle and CvS.
Ahem. Right after Pac-Man Heihachi is Namco's crossover king.
Here is a list of his appeareances:
- Obviously every game in his Tekken series
- Optional boss in the Tekken spin-off Death by Degrees
- guest character in Soul Calibur 2
- guest character in Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale
- one of the many Tekken characters in Street Fighter x Tekken
- appeared in The King of Fighters: All Stars mobile game
- is one of the characters in Namco x Capcom
- one of the many Namco characters in Project X Zone and Project X Zone 2
- a guest character in Pro Baseball Famista 2011
- one of the many characters in Full Bokko Heroes X
- he is a playable character in Anna Kournikova's Smash Court Tennis, where he can play tennis against real life tennis players in simulations of real tennis championships!
- also playable in the sequel Smash Court Tennis Pro Tournament 2, it's funny to see him there playing tennis, if you know how he is in Tekken: https://youtu.be/VEWQIz-PS4g
- is a narrator in Ridge Racer 6
- he is a character in Pac-Man-Fever
- he is one of Anise's dolls in Tales of the Abyss
- a mii costume in Smash 4
- as an 8bit sprite in Galaga: Tekken Edition
- that same sprite makes an appeareance in Smash Ultimate Pac-Man's namco roulette as a cameo

A playable appeareance in Smash would be the last missing achievement, but that will definitely follow soon too! Heihachi is destined to appear in Smash!

I don’t disagree. Why I said what I did, though, is not because of us. We can talk about other characters and their correlation to Geno and his chances. The problem is that so many people who don’t care for Geno, for his fans, and/or actively disparage one or both of those, watch this thread. And as soon as another character is brought up and we’re talking about how they affect Geno’s chances, those people feel compelled to butt in and redirect the flow of conversation away from Geno and towards those characters, which a healthy dose of Geno and/or Geno fan base bashing along the way. It also seems to happen way more often, and with greater severity and aggressiveness, when other Squeenix characters are the ones that the conversation turns too - the great Sora debates, the current topic of 2B (and Lara Croft to a lesser extent) that has looped around multiple times.

You’re absolutely right that if people come in here and want to make trouble, that it’s THEIR problem. But as soon as they do exactly that, and then the moderators get involved for the umpteenth time and we get dragged down because of them again? Then it becomes OUR problem.

EDIT: which is not for me to be implying that we’re exclusionary or clique’ish, or that we’re the only ones who can talk about other characters for X Y Z reason. I’m specifically referring to the people who are arguing in bad faith and come here with bad intentions and try to start trouble just to get US in trouble.

Even though DLC fighters don't get any Palutena Guidances, what do you think they would ultimately say regarding Geno if they did?

IDK. . . But I See why they re-use the same DLC Fighter Quotes from the Previous Game; It's Cheaper, Saves money; and is less of a Strain on Sakurai, having to come up with New Lines of Dialogue for New DLC Fighters. . . Keeping him farther & farther away from Succumbing to Karoshi. . .

But Back on topic to Geno; If You want a Hypothetical Palutena's Guidance; You've asked the wrong Person; I'm not good at coming up with these things. . . better ask someone else

Ah, I see. Guess Geno is overpowered in a way. Are you guys sure you want a guy with overpowered moves like Geno in Smash Bros. Ultimate? :troll:
You know what? You're right. I think I'll be a detractor now. Genope is what I'm talking about. What are some other characters I can support that are Pinocchio but if he were a gun mage but not overpowered? I'm sure there's plenty to choose from. Maybe a FE character?

Ah, I see. Well, I must say, I find it flattering that so many anti-Geno's find it necessary to keep an eye on us while I couldn't care less about patrolling THEIR threads. lol They must feel pretty threatened.

The most interesting thing is that it’s not like Geno supporters are actively watching other threads or websites to see when someone says the opposite - “I think 2B has a better chance than Geno,” for example - and then descending upon that thread/website in droves to aggressively argue about why that person is wrong and how dare they disparage Geno’s chances?

But when it comes to Geno detractors, it feels like a lot of them are watching this thread like a hawk, and as soon as someone makes a comment like you did, they flock in droves to express their disapproval that we ... support Geno chances? in the ... Geno support thread? And aggressively argue about why were wrong and how dare we disparage *insert character here*’s chances?

I can clearly see why extended discussions of other characters is being limited by moderator rules, because as soon as you bring up another character - and Squeenix characters especially, with Sora, 2B and Lara Croft all as recent examples - and so much as dare imply in the same sentence that Geno may have a better shot of getting into Ultimate first before them, it becomes a madhouse in here. Of all the characters to be discussed, those three take the cake in terms of people driving off-topic discussions for extended periods of time.
My whole thing is people come here, get offended for literally any toe dip of negativity towards another character aside from Geno, and then get mad at the thread for supporting Geno over said character. W-what do people want? Anything less than total despair over Geno's chances is apparently unacceptable.

"Lower your expectations for Geno."

"Okay, lower your expectations for (insert character here)."

Periodic reminder that it sure is weird that fans of other characters who have zero investment in Geno feel the need to come here every once in a while and remind everyone in this thread to keep their expectations in check or to remind us that our expectations are somehow unrealistic, and to push the need for us to be hopeless and take everything that may be working our favor with a grain of salt. Truly, it is Geno fans and supports that need to be reminded that people can fake a leak and go to extreme lengths to do so, or that patterns aren't guarantees and rarely shape up to be anything.

Honestly I'm pretty sure it's because Geno fans have ****ing quadruple digit IQ and they want to come here and debate us in an attempt to get senpai to notice them.

Okay, I've got a question for you guys, when was the first time you experienced Super Mario RPG and or learned about Geno? My first experience playing Super Mario RPG was a neighbors house when I lived in a small town called Ruthton many years ago as a kid. I never got to play the game fully or own my own copy until late 2007 or so because I distinctly remember beating the game for the first time the night before Brawl released. That, and I learned of Geno primarily thanks to Smash Kingdom.

I’ll never understand people who spend time posting in threads for characters they don’t want and criticizing what is being discussed. No matter how bored I am, you’ll never catch me checking the Sora thread and caring what they’re saying in there. The amount of people that come in here and make posts that boil down to “WHY ARE YOU SUPPORTING GENO IN HERE?!” is almost comical.

I can’t imagine choosing to be apart of the Smash speculation scene as a hobby honestly. I’m stuck here because of I’ve wanted a puppet in a fighting game for half my life. Once that’s done, byyyyyyyyye catch me on the Geno smash character board actually playing the game

To the thread, if you see a suspicious account (recent join date, low post count, etc) making antagonistic posts, please report it. There’s no need for you to waste your time making a reply to it. Please report it and the administration will take care of it.

Who's that Lady Palutena?

That's Geno, he's actually a star spirit from the Star Road Above that possessed a doll to repair the road for wishes to come true

Kind of looks like an ordinary doll to me

Don't let its looks fool you pit, that Doll Geno possesses has weapons that can let to dangerous setups with his attacks like the Star cannon and the Geno Beam.

Rest of you can either edit it and/or add more if you want. That's the farthest I can go for a made up Palutena's Guidence

I got it with my Super Nintendo for Christmas of 1996. I'm pretty sure my mom thought she was just getting a regular Mario game and had no idea that I was about to improve my reading level by playing this massive story heavy RPG. I fell in love with Geno and his cool outfit and his laser gun arm the moment Mario joined him to fight against a multi-colored banana.

First M&L Superstar Saga Easter Egg minigame, next Smash Kingdom, then Smash 4 DLC fan requests, finally very noticeable thanks to TerminalMontage

Some people have outright said they hope Geno gets in so I flat out stop posting. The thing that sucks is that if literally any of my 6 predictions are true, people are probably going to go out of their way to make my life Hell anyways so I'm just wholesale roundly ****ed either way. Some days I just sit and think, "this is all going to end with some crazed fan killing me, isn't it" and then I take a small bit of comfort in the fact that my death would be funny and probably be a meme for at least a week.

Topic: SMRPG2 happens, or there’s a SMRPG remake with creative liberties. Either way, Geno gets an updated redesign. You are in charge of said redesign, and you can make whatever changes to Geno that you want.

If given the opportunity to redesign Geno, what would you change about Geno to improve his design IYO?

I don't remember when I first played, though I do remember my cousin owning a SNES and I played EarthBound and SMRPG on it.

I think otherwise we had some of the easier to get SNES games(Killer Instinct, Super Mario Kart, Super Mario World) at the time.

When i see alot of fanmade geno 3d models it sometimes looks like geno has man boobs because of the way the wood is articulated, so i would make sure thats gone. I would also pull a toy story and give the doll some kind of signature from whoever crafted the doll.

Sailor Cape would look clean too
Sailor Cape alt or riot. Absolutely the only one I would play.

So I thought of a cute little trailer if Geno is revealed:

The opening scene, instead of being CG, is live-action. It shows a boy, with his face hidden, playing with dolls of Mario, Luigi, Yoshi, Peach, and Bowser. Offscreen, the mom calls the boy for dinner but he protests and says “In a minute, Mom!” She angrily repeats herself one more time. The boy sighs, picks up Mario to look at it, and walks away.

When the boy walks out the room, the dolls of the previously named characters start waking up! Mario and the gang begin running and jumping around the room while Bowser trips and falls on his face. Rubbing his nose, he looks up find them drawn to a blue box. Looking up, they see a falling, glimmering star from down from the ceiling and into the toy box. They look uncertainly at each other when, suddenly, a light explodes out from the chest which knocks them off the box and onto the floor. Mario rubs his head and looks up as, ascending in an almost holy manner is, Geno. Cue Geno splash.

Mario, Peach, Bowser, and Yoshi all look excited to see their old friend while Luigi is left in confusion of who this is.

Just need to have bowser crying to add the finishing touch while the others are excited/happy

I don't remember playing it personally as a kid, but I remember watching my uncle (or maybe even grandmother) play it as a kid (my parents had the SEGA Genesis (still one of my favorite consoles) so I didn't get to play the SNES unless we were visiting them), I didn't get to play it until the Wii u sadly, maybe I'll buy a physical copy (depend on price) to replay it (i gave my Wii u to my cousin since he's into modding)

I can at least say this much for sure: I didn't get my copies of the original DKC, Turtles in Time, Castlevania 4, Super Mario RPG, Star Fox, Super Metroid, F-Zero, and a few others until I got much older. I was lucky to have Super Mario Allstars featuring Super Mario World, Mortal Kombat 3, Yoshi's Island, Mega Man X, and DKC2 and DKC3 as the main sources of enjoyment for me with the SNES when I was a kid.
