I just imagine Miyamoto sinking lower and lower into his chair as the SMRPG team describes different scenarios they plan on putting in the game until he's just laying on the floor and staring unblinkingly at the ceiling:

"In this scene, Mario tumbles backwards down a flight of stairs."

"In this scene, Mario literally gets shot in the face and gets knocked unconscious."

"In this scene, Mario has to be restrained by two people to prevent him from beating up a child."

"In this scene, Mario gets coated in gold and has to avoid getting felt up by an obese toucan."

"In this scene, Mario jumps on a trampoline and smashes his head into a cave ceiling, knocking him out. His unconscious body is then robbed."

"In this scene, Mario can choose whether an old man is tortured or not."

"In this scene, Mario goes to a casino run by the Mafia."

"In this scene, Mario watches a man commit suicide and sings and dances with his friends afterwards."

"In this scene, Mario fights a timeless god of chaos from another dimension that threatens to erase Mario and his friends from existence if they lose."
Let's not forget other gems like:

"In this scene, Mario chases down a well-endowed woman with a bird on her head and punches her so hard her boobs giggle."

Man, I never really thought about these scenarios but seeing them on paper like this makes it sound like Mario did a crossover with Grand Theft Auto and Johnny Knoxville's Jackass. Gotta say, reading your post made me laugh so hard I almost pissed myself. What a great way to start my morning.

For me, I was hyped the most towards these characters

:ultbanjokazooie::ultincineroar::ultinkling::ultkrool::ultdarksamus::ultridley::ultjoker:
Funny how half of these guys are considered villains

Villains rock. That's why two of my most hyped characters were :ultridley::ultwolf:. My others were :ultgreninja::ultcloud::ultjoker::ultbanjokazooie:. What can I say? I like edgy characters (minus Banjo....he just funny).

"In this scene, Mario watches without intervening as a living cake is eaten alive. Multiple people acknowledge that the cake is alive but brutally kill it anyways by throwing it in a fat man's mouth. This fat man eats a living, breathing, triple tiered, 10 foot wedding cake in one bite."

"In this scene, Mario skydives into a volcano. He does this accidentally and screams in terror all the way down."

"In this scene, Mario and his friends destroy a flying battle cruiser and allow a group of teenagers to die a fiery and explosive death. Emotionlessly, Mario watches as they burn to death from atop a volcano."

"In this scene, Mario swims in sewage."

"In this scene, Mario feeds a baby cookies until it's so morbidly obese that it can't move."

"In this scene, Mario is blasted out of a sewer with a literal moving wall of sewage and thrown screaming down a waterfall."

"In this scene, Mario gets in a one on one fist fight with a pirate."

"In this scene, Mario has to repeatedly submerge himself in quick sand to advance."

"In this scene, Mario and friends beat up a dragon until it dies and proceed to beat up its reanimated corpse."

Once again, this was 1996. Mario games had basically no real story line up until this point so the creative liscense that Miyamoto allowed is honestly surreal. This was the same dude that okayed and supervised Color Splash and Sticker Star. What the **** happened?

I always have trouble being super confident in characters these days but I've been more confident in Geno than I have most other fighters (70-75%). The only other fighter I was this confident in for DLC was Banjo (80-85%) and we all know how that turned out lol

1996. Such a golden age for gaming. They just don't make em like they used to.

Of the DLC thus far, only Geno could top Banjo for me. So many fond memories of that game throughout my boyhood. And just one of those things I found impossible.
Yeah considering Geno is my #1 and Banjo was my #2. I screamed pretty hard for Banjo. I don't know what I'd do for Geno... XD

Plenty of others will make me ecstatic but I probably wouldn't yell for anyone else but Geno (and Banjo, but as I already said, that happened), not even for my other top 5 picks. "Oh **** yeah, Paper Mario!" "Sweet! Advance Wars rep!" "Woo, Rhythm Heaven!" "Awesome, Yet-Another-Swordsman Lloyd! <3" Geno would just be screaming and losing my voice for a day.

Nintendo in 1996: "We don't want blood in games because that's not family friendly."

Also Nintendo in 1996: "Here's Mario RPG, our first major partnership with a third party with our flagship franchise. It has jiggle physics, several onscreen deaths, and suicide. As an added bonus, Mario, our signature mascot, can also break into people's homes and steal their stuff. You can also jump on their beds and their heads to your heart's content. Also, this teammate has a whole arsenal of guns. Enjoy."

Basically just realized that SMRPG is the only Mario game where Mario has mostly the same energy as Link. He's a silent protagonist but does whatever he wants. Terrifyingly enough, he can jump several times his own height and shoot fire out of his hands. He goes into people's houses without asking and jumps on their roofs, sometimes forcing himself down the chimney in broad daylight. His only way of communication is dramatic pantomime and only vocal sounds are loud grunts and shrill screams. Unlike Link who is predominantly stoic, Mario has virtually no emotional regulation and wildly displays his emotions through sweeping and dramatic actions. SMRPG Mario is pretty much a cryptid but everyone's just kind of cool with it because he's literally the only one that can protect the country.

If you forget Isaac.
Ehhhh Issac didn’t exist before Melee. And Waluigi’s been physically represented in every Smash from Melee onward. And Waluigi getting AT’d in Ultimate basically made the news. I’d find it hard to claim Isaac has a bigger presence, and that’s me speaking as a GS fan

This. There's also the fact that Sakurai himself and various people of Nintendo have acknowledged Waluigi's relationship with Smash over the years.

ROFL This makes Mario sound like some kind of mute psychopath with mutant abilities.....no wonder I liked him so much in that game.

You mean Mario isn't a mute psychopath with mutant abilities? I've been so okay with that description of him that I've basically started considering Mario 64 speedrun strats canon to his skillset.

That's wrong.
Release of Mario Tennis: July 21, 2000
Release of Golden Sun: August 1, 2001
Release of SSBMelee: November 21, 2001

Waluigi getting AT’d in Ultimate basically made the news
But does news in the mainsteam media really count? It's mostly the outcry that got covered. If mainstream media is the reference, I fully admit that Isaac is a nobody. So is Geno.

I’d find it hard to claim Isaac has a bigger presence
A presence within the game, I'll admit. But the majority of Smash Ultimate polls says otherwise about their respective support.

Anyway, my post was not intended to convert anyone, or even to prove that Isaac is better known and recognized than Waluigi, just to recall that he is present in speculation since Brawl, that many commentators expected he would happen in this game before its release, and that, as it stands, he remains just as much in the running as Waluigi or Geno can be.

Yeah, I guess you're right. Have you seen TerminalMontage's video about Super Mario World? That's a pretty accurate representation of Mario's true nature.

Imagine Charlie Chaplin's Tramp but with super powers and zero social awareness. That's basically SMRPG's Mario. "What if Superman was nonverbal and just did whatever the **** he wanted at any given time? He's not dangerous, he's just really ****in' weird..." Yeah, as an ADHD kid, I loved SMRPG Mario. "Man, I wish I was an adult that could go into people's houses without asking and jump on their beds and everyone just be cool with it."

LOL Have you ever seen the CG movie "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs"? There's a part in there when it's snowing ice cream and the main character gets so excited that he decides to have a snowball fight....with unwilling participants. He kicks in the door of some random house and starts pegging the kids in the head with snowballs. It's pretty jacked up and violent, but the kids and parents just smile and roll with it. This whole description of SMRPG Mario really reminds me of that.

Yeah, that's basically what it's like and the game even kind of addresses this.

Kids: "Yeah! Mario's here! This is so cool! Play with us!"

Adults/Parents: "Oh, uh, Mario's in my house for no reason... How nice...Uh... How are things?"

Imagine if the Rock just came into your house unannounced and didn't talk but did charades to communicate. I imagine it would be about the same experience.

I’m just happy I got :ultjoker: and :ultkrool: man, that alone has made me so incredibly happy that I can’t really be disappointed with future dlc.
What are some of your guys favorite newcomers?
:ultkrool:, :ultridley:, and :ultbanjokazooie:. I wanted all of them in Smash since Melee's release back in 2001. I was very happy to finally get them all in this game after 17 to 18 years.

I'd ask him to deliver The People's Elbow. You cannot go without The Rock Bottom/People's Elbow combination

And before anyone asks, there are only two animes in the world that achieve godlike status.

Hajime No Ippo and Dr. Stone
That's a weird way of spelling Trigun and Cowboy Bebop.

To be fair, though, Hajime No Ippo is good and I want to watch Dr. Stone but I just haven't yet. Was too busy with Fire Force and S4 of MHA.

Man, I need more Baki The Grappler in my life too. HURRY UP NETFLIX!

pretty sure he was just saying " Keep your expectations in check" not "never believe anything good can happen"
People say this to us every week. We get it. We don’t care. It comes off as very condescending. A lot of us believe Geno has a very good shot at being DLC. Maybe Good Samaritan posters should visit other threads and relay the same message because I know that other fanbases of commonly talked about characters feel the same way but never get condescended to in the same way we do.

Meh.

I know I personally am keeping my expectations in check, in regards to Geno being a "lock" or anything. I am optimistic about his chances in this round since there is a pile of events/evidence that have been accumulating that shows there is a chance.

However, I don't know if such comments of "Keep your expectations in check" or "Don't dream to high so you don't get hurt" are that genuine when you randomly come into a thread and say that and walk away as oppose to long time posters who may offer that to temper our raging emotions at times.

That's the difference.

And that's pretty much my beef with it. People report me for making bad jokes about game names and misspelling character names in this thread; can you imagine if I did my sprawling essays against certain characters in their own thread? Imagine if I just parked myself in the Steve or Sora thread and just told people on a regular basis to lower their expectations for these characters. Let's be honest, I would be banned in a number of hours for "trolling." No snarkiness. No sarcasm. 100% objective fact. It would be a small miracle if I got in more than two or three posts before being punted from the site.

In other words: "Is that contraband optimism I smell?"
Dude, have you ever smelled that stuff? It'll get you high as a kite, but the crash afterwards is pretty brutal. That's why it's better to just rub it on your gums.

Wouldn't it be funny if all of this thread's antagonists were actually just the same person but on a bunch of different accounts?

You mean this boss?

I definitely think Ultimate is finally Geno's time. If doesn't make it in this time around I'm afraid it's game over because the stakes are to high for him to miss the boat again with this game. Like Fatmanonice Fatmanonice said, Ultimate is Sakurai's final mission from Iwata and it's pretty much set up to be the definitive Smash game with all the veterans returning, almost every stage returning, and long awaited highly requested characters finally getting in.
