Seriously. I can't help but laugh when people are STILL trying to use "relevance" to discredit certain characters. Not only has Sakurai explicitly said that "relevance" isn't as crucial as moveset originality/uniqueness, but let's consider how many characters exist in Ultimate that were from dead franchises or not even from franchises at all:

-Ness
-Lucas
-Captain Falcon
-Ice Climbers
-Pit
-Dark Pit
-Palutena
-Little Mac
-ROB
-Wii Fit Trainer
-Duck Hunt
-Banjo Kazooie
-King K. Rool
-Mr. Game and Watch
-Pac Man?

Yeah, if someone can't fathom why a vastly original character from a successful Nintendo-Square collaboration deserves to get into Smash, there's really nothing anyone can do to help you. Simply bask in your ignorance and find another worthy character to support.
Ness: Mother is a cult classic in Japan and it wasn't dead by the times of 64, it even was going to get a N64 game.
Captain Falcon: F-Zero is a popular racing game and it wasn't dead when Smash 64 released.
Ice Climbers: NES retro pick that would bring a new gimmick
Pit: NES retro pick.
Dark Pit: Easy echo and came from a recent game.
Palutena: Uprising was new and very popular, Kid Icarus wasn't a dead franchise.
Little Mac: Punch Out! Always was a well liked game, Punch Out Wii wasn't too old.
ROB: It literally saved Nintendo.
Wii Fit Trainer: What? WFT was freakin big amongst casuals, it was one of the best sold Wii games.
Game and Watch: Another retro pick, but before even NES and from Nintendo's first Handheld ever.
Pac Man: Literally a gaming icon.

Why is everyone still sleeping on Travis Touchdown? He's still a legit contender for Fighter #5. As far as I know, Suda51 was NOT included among the mountain of deconfirmed companies/developers, and let's not forget that him and Sakurai are good friends. Couple this with all of Travis' potentially unique retro video game mechanics/throwbacks and the many wrestling moves he employs, I could easily see him as one of the most unique swordfighters in the game (and frankly one of the few possible swordfighters that wouldn't bore the crap out of me). They could even give him the dual-wield lightsabers to add to his unique style. Also consider that he just recently had a new game come out on Switch so his franchise is far from dead (if that even matters). I'm calling it now. Travis for the VGA's.

PS Geno for fighter #6, baby!

I see you left out Duck Hunt and Lucas. Must have had a hard time finding the right narrative, huh? You fail to realize that ANY character can be justified if you want them to, especially AFTER they make the roster. Don't worry, after Geno gets in, you'll find plenty of reasons why he made sense. Until then, I can only offer the same advice I did before:

And yet Nintendo abandoned F-Zero, you probably didn’t know that SMRPG was a cult classic and Geno was a hit among fans. This isn’t 2012 anymore so where is a Kid Icarus game on the Switch? Kid Icarus did not have a game in almost a decade. Are you gonna defend Sheik as well even though she is just a one off disguise character for Zelda and hadn’t made an appearance since a spin-off. I don’t see how being old characters from an NES era like the Ice Climbers excuse them despite them being irrelevant. What about Lucas? A character whose game never came out outside of Japan. Roy, a character who never even had a game to begin with before his inclusion. Roy, Sheik, and Ice Climbers are you go to guys of “Literally Who?”

Please don't sleep on my boy, he's all I have.

what a weird timeline, where everyone loves him more than Geno. I bet it's Super Luigi RPG, there.
Other gems from that universe include:
Star Falco 64
Meta Knight Superstar
The Legend of Link (which stars Zelda)
Knuckles & Sonic
Diddy Kong Country
Donkey Kong Racing
Kazooie-Banjo

In another weird universe, Star Fox would be Star Slippy

Fatmanonice Fatmanonice is fear of sora at the game awards justified?
Not counting on it. Other people have covered some of my thoughts but some others:

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.tw...rmed-debut-super-smash-bros-ultimate/amp.html

I've noticed that developers are pretty straightforward about this sort of thing. People wave their arms about Grant Kirkhope but he's just the composer of the series. Shinji Hashimoto is the producer and brand manager of both Kingdom Hearts and Final Fantasy. That's a huge deal! This is one of the dudes that's involved in the final decisions of literally anything Kingdom Hearts from game release dates to what's on T-shirts. Given his position, if he says it's not happening (at least at the moment) there's literally no reason to doubt him. If the same for Travis when Goichi Suda (you know... The guy that founded Suda 51) says he's not coming anytime soon. What about NDAs . These guys have enough power in their respective companies that that it's probably not even warranted. Hashimoto could put Sora on condoms and toaster pop tarts if he damn well wanted because he has that much influence in the decisions behind the entire series. If Smash isn't in his current vision of the brand, that's that.

Just a heads-up but after the Video Game awards I'll be taking a month if not multiple month break from here as Speculation has really worn me out and kind of started making me more bitter than usual. It's becoming very unhealthy for me and my mental health as it seriously is taking a toll on me.

So yeah I'll be taking a while off from here and most of the internet to give myself a break.

keep me away from this timeline.
We are on the same dyslexic wavelength because that’s what my brain wants it to say every time I read it.

Another highlight from that timeline is Paper Luigi: The Marvelous Compass, where Mario occasionally shows up to talk about his adventures to find the Crystal Stars

Understandable. Always good to have a break if it's affecting you mentally. We'll be here when you get back. (Unless something really very bad happens)

I always wanted to play Luigi's food adventure. Thousand Year Door was somewhat disappointing to me, overall and I'll always believe that whatever Luigi was up to was way more fun.

I am probably taking a break from speculation as well and depending on how the TGAs/FP5 goes, it may be permanently.

I don't have much else to say aside from the fact I just feel dead inside with how FP5 is turning out.

Hey Fatmanonice Fatmanonice , wanted to wish you a Happy Birthday! From one boomer to another, do you remember the old SMRPG US commercial? As a seven-year-old I never realized that ad was a Looper-like glimpse into the future:

Luigi had the coolest cast of partners we never got to know. I would love for this to become real one day.

and people wonder why the older generation never took games seriously as a medium.

Anyone else feel that after all these company deconfirmations that character 5 might be the epitome of 'meh'? It won't be a bad choice, it it won't be a good choice. It will just be A choice, filler almost.

I think most are moving onto speculating post pass characters as so far there are no confirmed or fan restrictions on them, since we know nothing about them.

As for the “fear of Sora” talk, it’s mostly only out of being scared that if Sora was in fact DLC 5, Geno’s costume odds just skyrocketed (another Square Character in the Fighter Pass? Can’t be good news for Geno.)

As for Sora himself, i’m cool with it and expected him to join up eventually anyways, just not this early.

While I have no personal stake in this argument at all, and I support Geno (a bit); allow me to fill in the gap.

-Lucas: While his game never released outside of Japan; Mother is a decently popular series in Japan and Mother 3 released not too long before Brawl. He was an easy echo choice.

-Duck Hunt: WTF pick that Sakurai likes (Game and Watch, Pirahna Plant, ROB). All of these are iconic characters that no one thought would be in Smash.

Again, no personal stake in the argument but the inclusion of Duck Hunt and Lucas can easily be defended.

I mean, what would happen if he was announced and we later find out that there is still no Geno costume?

Man, I'm rooting for both Geno and Sora.

In fact, three of my dream picks can be counted as all Squares: Geno, Sora, and Lara Croft

People would ask for an end to this suffering and/or continue to speculate while getting closer to getting heart attacks.
