Yeah I kind of went along with crowd thinking Llyod had a chance but I always thought in the back of my mind that he really didn't seem all that likely for FP5 and made more sense as post pass if he was going to be DLC. I think the theory that each company is new to Smash (Atlus being considered separate from Sega and Square being considered separate from Enix) actually makes a good bit of sense and is why I find Layton and Travis to be good possibilities for FP5 but who knows. I still have to admit that Monokuma sounds really freaking cool now but who knows how likely they are either.
I was literally going to reply to that same guy and bring up that exact company theory, only to “check new posts” to see that you’ve already said it quite well.
I honestly think that Monokuma is more likely than you’d think, though. Sakurai loves the games, it’s a new company, a new genre, a character that could very easily be toned down to fit into Smash, a series that would come with some especially incredible music tracks(which appears to be a surprisingly large aspect of these DLC packs), and one that would absolutely bring that “unexpected” factor that final Smash reveals all appear to strive for, joining the ranks of Bayonetta, Piranha Plant, and Duck Hunt.
However, even with all that, I don’t consider
him anywhere close to a lock or anything. In fact, my predictions for #5 are pretty much split between the following possibilities, in descending order of likelihood:
-Solaire of Astora
-Agumon
-Monokuma
-Professor Layton
-Travis Touchdown
-Master Chief
-A shock Playstation rep
-Sora
-Literally just Waluigi, after all this time, just Waluigi
I think that we could totally still get something related to Namco, but not actually “by” them, if that makes any sense, so characters like Solaire(developed by From and published by them) and Agumon(created by Bandai well before the big merger, following the same logic as Enix) could easily still be in the running. However, the following post does really bring my personal expectations for
anything Namco as #5 pretty far down:
''So Sakurai talks to Bandais employees/company heads and as he states in this video they forget that their company has a character in smash. Now its bad enough that they forget their own mascot is in the game but there is no way they would forget they had a character in the game if they were working on a Bandai Namco DLC fighter.''
Monokuma and Layton share a weirdly similar space in my mind, both being reps from “mystery games” by companies completely new to Smash. I think Monokuma’s a bit more likely, but I’d be absolutely fine with either.
Travis and Chief are characters that legitimately still have a chance in my mind even after developer deconfirmations, both could make pretty great VGA reveals.
The last three are ones that seem practically impossible, but I’d have called Joker an absolute never-ever this time last year, so who knows, anything can happen. Though, and I know this is a relatively controversial opinion, my interest in Sora is entirely predicated on whether or not he actually includes any sort of Disney content, whether it be music, Donald and Goofy, parts of his stage, etc. I know that most would see that as an utter impossibility, but “Sora with Disney” would practically be my third-most-wanted right after Chief and Geno, while “Sora, but entirely divorced from anything even remotely related to Disney” wouldn’t even crack... like, top fifteen for me.
At least we now have less than two weeks until we’re guaranteed to find out just who #5 is. In the meantime,
