fun fact: it has been 30 pages since I last had to post from mobile. I see I have returned to good news.

AdamBel731 AdamBel731 it does make me happy, for a variety of reasons. Lloyd fans are no more out of the running for post pass than we are, so I'm not sad for them - if any Lloyd backers got their hopes up when "Reggie was right" is in play, that's on them.

Fingers pointing to KOS-MOS is funny, because I remember all the people who saw her in the Grinch leak when she wasn't there - the irony would be grand. This wild ride has driven me to the point that I am putting all my chips in three characters:

Klonoa: personal most likely, Namco rep, fits Smash, has a pedigree and recently got a trademark update along with Tales Of that people seem to be sleeping on.

Geno: **** what one insider said about Mallowdemon. The fact that one vague statement took Geno off the table is the kind of damage control Nintendo really would have wanted back during Grinch. Likewise, **** what I say about Reggie was right, Geno's a hell of a curveball.

Finally, the big one: Duke Nukem. Cannot bet it all without betting on Duke.

If there's tons of evidence for anyone that isn't one of these three, I ain't buying it.
I do feel like people are sleeping on Klonoa, but man what a curveball that would be. Despite surviving in some shape or form for over a decade, it doesn't exactly have the legacy most other picks would have regardless of region, nor the recency bias that a pick like Bayonetta would have.

Klonoa getting confirmed would probably shake up character speculation even more than Geno would. Someone that is within neither the Smash Bubble nor the mainstream consciousness of successful franchises.

Aww damn. It's cool if you don't want to talk about it, but what happened? Black Friday looks like an extremely tough day to work for an employee so I respect you man.

Honestly if FP5 is actually Nightmare rather than Lloyd my interest will go from “huh that’s nice I guess” to legit excitement. The only character I’ve had a genuine connection to this pass has been BK. While I was never expecting every character to be ones I was super hype for overall they’ve mostly been characters that I’m either completely disinterested in or think are deserving and well-represented without being personally hype for.

I vividly remember playing Soul Edge with my best friend who has since passed away at his 6th birthday party and thinking a fighting game with weapons was the tightest **** ever and picked Siegfreid as my character. Years later I played the **** out of SCII and while I mained Lizardman I always thought Nightmare was super cool to play as too. He has such cool alternate weapons and while I’m not holding my breath for it if he somehow gets alternate swords as a part of different costumes I will lose my ****. It would hypothetically be really nice for the final character to be both a surprise and one I have nostalgic connection to. And if Geno actually comes in a second wave of DLC on top of Nightmare and BK I would never ask Sakurai for anything again.

Outside of secondary unique 3rd party characters like Zero, Tron Bonne, Chun-Li, M. Bison, ect, the only major 3rd party protagonist/mascot characters I wanted in this game were Goemon, Banjo & Kazooie, Shantae, and a Soul Calibur rep like Yoshimitsu or Nightmare. Goemon is a Mii costume, Shantae is a Spirit, Banjo & Kazooie are playable, and if we get a Soul Calibur rep than I will be pretty, PRETTY satisfied with this game. 2/4 or 3/4 how ever you put it ain't half bad.

oh **** what if it’s Yoshimitsu.... If a trend in the pass is crossover characters/series you can’t find a better Namco rep than Yoshimitsu considering he’s been a member of both Tekken and Soul Calibur since the first Tekken title and second game in the SC series. And a Heihachi costume coming in a Yoshimitsu character pass would be an even better fit than Nightmare. I’ll still lean towards Nightmare since that’s who insiders have actually heard but man Yoshimitsu would be awesome as well and totally fitting.

Do you guys remember when we would go off topic to complain about Pokemon Sword & Shield? Well, here's a little blast from the past: recently the Pokemon icons were put up on TSR, and I just wanted to show you some weird thing with them regarding their colors.
Pikachunk.png

The first image is the sprite itself, the second one is what you think would happen when you fill it in, and the third is what actually happens when you fill it in. For some reason, while this particular yellow color looks like it's all the same across the whole body, it's not. For some god forsaken reason, they use two slightly different versions of the same yellow color for what should be the same color. And this goes for every other color for every other icon sprite as well.
Pikachunk1.png

As a pixel art enthusiast, this makes me mildly upset.

Don't get me wrong I would love Nightmare to get in, but Yoshimitsu would be so much better in my eyes. I would easily choose Yoshimitsu over Nightmare if I had the choice.

Basically the only way to catch people off guard is if it happens literally in the middle of an award being handed out or something.
That honestly wouldn't be a bad way to reveal Fighter 5.

Remember last year's Game Awards? Remember when Ed Boon came onstage, seemingly just to present the award for best sports/racing game... then Scorpion's spear breaks through the screen and it transitions into a reveal for Mortal Kombat 11?

Imagine if Smash did something like that for a character reveal at this year's Game Awards. Sakurai, a voice actor, or someone else comes onstage to present the award for best fighting game... then the familiar Smash logo lines from the trailers pop up, and it transitions into the reveal.

Yeah I kind of went along with crowd thinking Llyod had a chance but I always thought in the back of my mind that he really didn't seem all that likely for FP5 and made more sense as post pass if he was going to be DLC. I think the theory that each company is new to Smash (Atlus being considered separate from Sega and Square being considered separate from Enix) actually makes a good bit of sense and is why I find Layton and Travis to be good possibilities for FP5 but who knows. I still have to admit that Monokuma sounds really freaking cool now but who knows how likely they are either.
I was literally going to reply to that same guy and bring up that exact company theory, only to “check new posts” to see that you’ve already said it quite well.

I honestly think that Monokuma is more likely than you’d think, though. Sakurai loves the games, it’s a new company, a new genre, a character that could very easily be toned down to fit into Smash, a series that would come with some especially incredible music tracks(which appears to be a surprisingly large aspect of these DLC packs), and one that would absolutely bring that “unexpected” factor that final Smash reveals all appear to strive for, joining the ranks of Bayonetta, Piranha Plant, and Duck Hunt.

However, even with all that, I don’t consider
him anywhere close to a lock or anything. In fact, my predictions for #5 are pretty much split between the following possibilities, in descending order of likelihood:

-Solaire of Astora
-Agumon
-Monokuma
-Professor Layton
-Travis Touchdown
-Master Chief
-A shock Playstation rep
-Sora
-Literally just Waluigi, after all this time, just Waluigi

I think that we could totally still get something related to Namco, but not actually “by” them, if that makes any sense, so characters like Solaire(developed by From and published by them) and Agumon(created by Bandai well before the big merger, following the same logic as Enix) could easily still be in the running. However, the following post does really bring my personal expectations for anything Namco as #5 pretty far down:

''So Sakurai talks to Bandais employees/company heads and as he states in this video they forget that their company has a character in smash. Now its bad enough that they forget their own mascot is in the game but there is no way they would forget they had a character in the game if they were working on a Bandai Namco DLC fighter.''

Monokuma and Layton share a weirdly similar space in my mind, both being reps from “mystery games” by companies completely new to Smash. I think Monokuma’s a bit more likely, but I’d be absolutely fine with either.

Travis and Chief are characters that legitimately still have a chance in my mind even after developer deconfirmations, both could make pretty great VGA reveals.

The last three are ones that seem practically impossible, but I’d have called Joker an absolute never-ever this time last year, so who knows, anything can happen. Though, and I know this is a relatively controversial opinion, my interest in Sora is entirely predicated on whether or not he actually includes any sort of Disney content, whether it be music, Donald and Goofy, parts of his stage, etc. I know that most would see that as an utter impossibility, but “Sora with Disney” would practically be my third-most-wanted right after Chief and Geno, while “Sora, but entirely divorced from anything even remotely related to Disney” wouldn’t even crack... like, top fifteen for me.

At least we now have less than two weeks until we’re guaranteed to find out just who #5 is. In the meantime, ANYONE WHO HASN’T YET, CLICK HERE TO VOTE FOR GENO IN KFAD!

How insane would it be if it was Kratos? Like that would throw everyone off and break the rule of "needing Nintendo presence". Not to mention the fact that we would have the big 3 companies cooperating for one game.

Nightmare is honestly a really cool character would I have preferred Lloyd yes but that's only because of the attachment to the character and the game he comes from. Also cause he'd be a cool addition. But honestly with his Soul Edge and cool looking moveset he could bring Nightmare would be cool and I'd love too see him in.

Hopefully Lloyd has a chance down the road. But for now yeah I'd love to see him in.

As far as Rachet and Clank, Kratos, Sly Cooper, Nathan Drake or any Sony character. Yes that'd be great and of course I'd love too see any of them in.

Thanks to Papageno's Discord, I had another epiphany:

"Soul Caliber makes more sense to me, however, because another running theme of the Fighter's Pass is crossovers. Persona with Sonic and Catherine, DQ with FF, Banjo with DK and Conker (technically) and Minecraft, and Terry with just about every other SNK and Capcom fighting IP. Soul Caliber has even had Star Wars and Spawn crossover with it for God's sake."

Yeah, Soul Caliber is a crossover juggernaut, even having Link in Soul Caliber 2.
Fatmanonice, I have a genuine question, and it is legitimately not meant to come across rude.

But what makes Nightmare as Fighter #5 any different than the other characters that seemingly made sense? I know you're not a leaker, but a speculator. But (and I never thought I'd see the day), I agree with wynn728 wynn728 . It seems like every single character that has kind of lined up or seemed likely for Fighter #5 gets shot down. It really is like that SpongeBob gif wynn pulls up. I know it could always be a curve ball like you have been saying also, but you just made a post on why Nightmare lines up so much and I just worry that it'll be nothing again and Sabi deconfirms him.

Recently you seemed so confident about Lloyd. You were saying how all these things make sense, but now you're saying he makes sense as post pass. (Again, I am NOT trying to be rude and my annoyance isn't at you, but rather the state of Smash speculation being essentially the opposite of Oprah at the moment.) I just wonder what makes Nightmare any different from the other times things lined up... only to get toppled down again. Once more, I'm not mad or anything at you Fatmanonice. I am very grateful that you even take the time to indulge inconsequential posts like this one and keep people like me in the loop.

It doesn't matter. As far as I'm concerned, you are discrediting someone because you have different beliefs.

I can argue the other points and have before and Sabi has before, but none of that matters if you are going to say 'Person said things I don't like, so I don't believe anything they say about a totally different thing.'

That's like saying you wouldn't listen to a professional chef on how to bake a really nice cake because they think the Vikings are absolute trash and have shouted about how bad they think they are.

Until you take back that none of that matters since it has nothing to do with anything, I will refuse to acknowledge your argument and will continue to treat it as I have because it's a non-point and a character-assassination attempt rather than debating the actual issue.
I'm not discrediting them for different beliefs, and do you even realize how hurtful framing transgenderism as a belief in the first place, let alone your bull**** false equivalency? It's not a belief, it's just how people are and live. This isn't a difference of opinion here, this is Sabi downright said something transphobic and I don't think that should be defended in any capacity. It's not a difference of opinion and its offensive to even insinuate that this is what is happening (but I know you don't believe that people can be offensive, only the offended party can take offense, so I suspect that will fall on deaf ears). I'm not taking back that criticism because it has very unfortunately been earned.

And honestly, what are leakers but entirely reliant on their character? Sabi just doesn't show us proof, they ask us to believe them on their word. Determining how much their word is worth relies quite a bit on character. Your a name behind supposed information with no evidence or proof of your statements, so character is how you work to validate yourself as a leaker. It all feeds together in regards to how you as individual are interpreted by society and the world around you, especially in this instance. And again, I think it's one part of the greater picture of why we shouldn't give Sabi this constant attention they crave so much when both their information has meant very little (you don't want to argue, fine, we won't, but all my points still stand that Sabi's track record has gotten progressively worse over the past few months and has also become less revelatory in general) and their character has also been called into question by various incidents.

Hey, I've got a random Super Mario RPG question for those of you who are into that; where would you live if you were in the world of Super Mario RPG? I would probably like to live in Seaside Town, although I think Monstro Town, Nimbus Land and Mushroom Kingdom are also nice locations.

With all this talk about Soul Calibur, two questions came to my mind and that is 1: why does Yoshimitsu's design change so much? And 2: isn't he supposed to be a Tekken character?
Yoshimitsu is a title passed down through his clan to the clan leader. In each game it’s implied that it’s a ‘different’ Yoshimitsu, in that it’s a different person entirely under the moniker of Yoshimitsu - in Soul Calibur V, IIRC his in-game backstory states that that incarnation actually killed the previous Yoshimitsu and usurped the title and leadership role from them - so it makes sense that each game’s Yoshimitsu would have their own unique flair.

Soul Calibur takes place in the 1400-1500s, while Tekken is Modern-Day. The Tekken Yoshimitsu is basically the same thing, just hundreds of years in the future timeline-wise.
