Hell Fatman may even be wrong and we're not getting what he's suggesting. I don't believe anyone knows about the Post-FP DLC so I think that's the most likely outcome.
If Banjo was negotiated for in April last year, and Vergeben heard Minecraft content in May of last year, with Steve's name popping up in late August or early September then, would leakbait matter for Season 2 DLC?
Hell, people were expecting Smash news at the Spring 2018 Direct...and Ultimate wasn't even announced at that point!
They say that it's a character that sound like a joke and no one sure if they should believe it. All I'm saying is we don't need another, one is already pushing it... so it's going to be another one.
While I would love to see Mach Rider come to the game(And she would certainly be a good out of the blue pick with some history, both in games and smash), we should also take into account characters that were going to be Brawl and Smash 4.
They wouldn't get any more money from me until they went back to game characters.

Y'know that we may get a lot of Fan Favorite characters/Well received characters post-FP including Geno and whatnot. Some of those fan favorite characters being Geno tier requests as well.

That’s the thing. Changing f rom “Banjo tier” to “Geno tier” doesn’t really help narrow it down at all considering it’s kind of the same description. Like I said, the only characters that seem as big in the Smash community as Banjo and Geno would be Isaac and Waluigi. But that’s just the way i’m thinking. IDK.

We don't know Fatman hasn't given any specific characters out just that we may get fan favorite characters like Geno and at the same tier as Geno.

You're not wrong. Just because characters are talked about doesn't mean they'll happen. Case in point: Steve. Joker and Terry were virtually unknown too so someone not being mentioned isn't exactly a death sentence either.
I don't know exactly when Geno support started, but I don't remember seeing it till Brawl. Sora support started during Brawl, but up until Cloud he was nothing more than an impossible dream to those who wanted him. I'm not sure Sora fits the bill based on the the info given. He's popular, yet totally unexpected due to his circumstances, and has had some mostly negative news presence with Hashimoto's dis-confirmation tweet, and then there's the recent stuff with Harada. Every point he has going for him is contradicted by another.
Geno tier is a tier below Banjo because Geno isn't in the game yet. I also would be pretty tone deaf if I thought that Geno has more support than Banjo. Whether or not I wanted him doesn't change the fact that Banjo was extremely popular, especially with the Western crowd.
This doesn't imply that any single character is this under the radar sleeper hit who also happens to be as hype as Banjo, it implies that most of the characters are on par with being as hype as Banjo.
I don’t use Twitter at all so I wouldn’t be aware about any discussion going on there. I just see that all the large Youtuber videos usually say one of the two things when discussing a MC character along with the Steve thread being one of the most inactive ones on this forum so it would fit the context of catching people off guard IMO.
Whoops. For some reason I was thinking Rex was a SSB4 Mii customers, not in SSBU. Same with Doomslayer, was mixing up an older SSBU fan ballot as a SSB4 one. My bad lol. Looking into the fan ballots, I don’t think really see any characters on quite the level B&K and Geno are on. Even Lloyd is mostly isolated as a Japan only request but of course these things don’t represent the community as a whole and request on social networking sites like FB and Twitter may contain different results compared to the main polls.

I'll just say that Geno, Rayman, and Bandana Dee are really the only ones I could want to see in Smash... I feel Rayman fits the description Fatman gives but it's more wishful thinking than speculation on my end.

You're welcome to, tiger. But would you have a better idea of a "trolly yet pleasant surprise" character? Most of the video game choices I can think of fall almost exclusively in one category or the other.
There was talk of Geno for melee, but it was always shut down as impossible because of third party and that Nintendo and Square (barely Square-Enix) still weren't talking over the PlayStation/FF7 debacle.
There's also the problem that Melee came out in 2001. I'd venture a guess that most of us in here right now had only just gotten reliable internet that didn't kick our parents off the phone around that time, or internet at all, depending on who you are.
