Smash 64 just sorta appeared out of nowhere. There wasn't speculation as far as I know, all the roster was known (besides the 4 secrets) in the initial preview.

You're welcome to, tiger. But would you have a better idea of a "trolly yet pleasant surprise" character? Most of the video game choices I can think of fall almost exclusively in one category or the other.

You incorrectly assume that Goku falls under "pleasant surprise" for me. Undoubtedly trolly, but not the other. When I think trolly yet pleasant surprise, I'm thinking characters like Phoenix Wight, the axem rangers, lady bow, professor Layton, raz, Sam & Max (though they'll never happen for the same reason as goku)

I'm not implying that there was any speculation regarding 64, just that if video game media were a thing back then, and speculation were a thing, and the internet, etc etc, Geno would have been speculated and people would remember him being speculated all the way back before Melee and even during Melee's lifetime before Brawl was even announced.

Nah. I think it’s interesting to know what the insider circled are discussing/speculating about. Fatman hasn’t specifically leaked anything, sure, but that doesn’t mean what he has said isn’t interesting.

Yeah a shame but there's still hope. He's still got a shot considering none of the Namco costumes have returned as DLC and Sakurai views him as the de facto Tales rep.

That's kind of the point. I'm also aware that a lot of people blow me off but that's kind of how I want it. To some degree it's supposed to be frustrating because if I presented things straight out like Sabi, I'd be bugged all the time on whatever platform I was on. In a sense, I'm deliberately an unreliable narrator because the problems I seem to cause have predominantly been from misunderstandings than fumbling honest to God leaks, which I'm low-key proud of because good god have their been some super embarrassing and collosal ****ups during this speculation cycle that have made people lose their jobs in the aftermath.

To be fair, Phoenix Wright, Lady bow, Layton, etc. aren't a "pleasant surprise" for me, so I guess it's in the eye of the beholder on this one. Though, I do agree on the Axem Rangers. Them or Smithy (after Geno of course) would definitely be a pleasantly trolly surprise to me.

When it comes to "Geno tier" characters Geno, Waluigi, Isaac, and Sora are the only characters that I can think of that fit this description. Shadow and Bandana Dee may also fit the description but I only see them happening under certain circumstances (sadly). Even though assist upgrades seem a bit unlikely at the moment I still think it can happen and Waluigi and Isaac fit that "Geno tier" part the most out of those four in my opinion (Excluding Geno).

Start the spirit battle with Bowser, Geno, and Peach as your allies but as soon as you beat all the enemies your party members vanish and giant metal Inkling with strength up 1v1s you.

If we are speaking Banjo tier, then legitimately the only two viable characters include Lloyd Irving and Geno. Both are also very deserving of getting into Smash Bros. I can't see either being described as an out of left field surprise pick or Piranha Plant like.

I guess we will when a head rolls for it. I'm honestly surprised that jobs got put on the cutting board for a datamine. Yeah, I guess you blew it leaving it in the game, but normally when the fans are out here looking at game code, we're somehow the ones breaking the law...

The datamine leak had a fallout because it was secret info that was made public and it wasn't supposed to. We were able to keep it secret for roughly two months until someone connected with Source Gaming goofed and blasted it on Twitter.

I wasnt aware jobs were cut for the datamine. That sucks.

What I remember is the 7 SE characters list leak got people fired and all of that was a result of a Sora fan in Vergeben's circle (KronoXIV) getting upset it wasn't going to be Sora.
