If it is Geno it still might not make much sense to me. But I still don't understand the Blue Crab=Link's Awakening hint so I might just be dumb :v

Which is what killed us for the longest time because we were pretty sure it was a hint towards a Pikmin 3 port. The blue crabs are a reference to the ones that appear on the beach near the beginning of the game. I think that's why he was so super upfront about the Banjo hints because absolutely nobody got it despite the fact that even King Zell said that a 2D Zelda was coming, I believe, way back in January.

No, it's from the same source. Also, Sabi has a lot of sources but one main Nintendo one. This is where this has come from.

So the question is, is this a literal clue or another crab situation? Literal clue makes me think Pokemon. Europe = Galar. Crab situation = nothing until the day of the reveal where we all go "Ohhh thats what it was."

Even with limited knowledge of smrpg genos true nature is generally well known.

That said the chances are still grossly slim. Revealing character 4 without even releasing character 2? Pssshh

I feel if it was Fire Emblem, a Black Eagle would have been used. Since one of the houses is the Black Eagle House. Pokemon seems plausible. Nakoruru has a Hawk. Truly I do not know.

I have some juicy info about Geno being early dlv but I'm not sure if it's okay to say what I've heard.
To put it bluntly, there is a rumor within NoA saying Geno is playable. Not that it confirms hin, but the last 4 internal rumors I heard were true, so I'm optimistic in this. I'm tired and on mobile, so I won't explain too much. I'm friends with a brand ambassador who writes books and gets review copies, and he told me some of this juicy water cooler talk. I'd even link his content but I'm not sure it's okay for me to disclose his stuff with nintendo, might cost him some issues.

I'm nor an insider or claiming to leak. Just wanted to tell my geno friends that I'm hearing some stuff about Geno that makes him seem very likely to me.

Agreed. We did get the August direct not long after E3 last year, but the timing just seems weird to reveal another character so soon after both Hero and Banjo. I would love for this hint to mean Geno’s around the corner as well, but I think the timing of the Starling photo and the copyright claims lends itself to jumping to conclusions.

Yeah I’ve been meaning to ask about this, so this initial rumor is still kicking after all this time? Didn’t the source come out later and say something like, “no one knows the DLC except treehouse”? At that point, I thought the initial Geno rumor kinda evaporated. At the same time, it reminds me somewhat of Papageno’s Banjo source. Post grinch it seemed like misinformation or leak bait, but it ended up being correct 6 months later. Could be the same scenario here, who knows.

He's not one for total freebies. I feel like he does that to stay safe. For example, pretty much everyone and their grandma knew that Animal Crossing was going to be at E3 but when I asked about it for my wife, he was still kind of coy. It's honestly coverage in case he's wrong (which he really hasn't been so far) or, god forbid, he's given leak bait.

Wait and see situations are so boring but if it's the best we can get then I'll happily take it. It's better than a "No you can't have this" situation but it's worse than a "Yeah this is easily the most likely scenario and you're probably going to get what you want!" scenario.

It's a true neutral scenario and I'll take it. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Yeah this is such an interesting oddity and I can't help but be fascinated with this. Did Nintendo and Square give them permission to do this? How much did this cost? Are the Transformer creators fans of those two characters? What in canon reason are they there? Etc, Etc.

It's undoubtedly Geno right there so it's really cool to see Geno who is admittedly a little niche within something this big.

Yeah, it's still kicking largely because it's the only statement that the source has made literally in the past year that hasn't come to fruition or been proven false. It's worth noting because, up until the last Smash Direct, Jon from GameExplain was in the same boat and, based on my interactions with Sabi, I can confirm that he's also got super reliable Nintendo sources... It's just nobody knows who they are because he keeps it that deeply under wraps. Unlike Sabi's Nintendo source, Jon deliberately mixes fact and fiction to further cloud his sources. This is why this intial statement still lives: you have two super reliable Nintendo sources saying they've heard the same thing despite not having interactions with each other (or as far as I know).

It's an interesting case especially in the light that Steve really did wind up being deliberate misinformation. A lot of people fell for it, but not those two. I learned of this from two of Sabi's sources back in April and reported it here, which is what ultimately convinced me that Banjo was probably coming. This is significant to note because the same insiders who were 99% on board with Banjo being out of the running are the same that were like this about Geno too. Vergeben, Hitagi, and Xenother for example were super adament that Steve was coming. Other really reliable sources across the "gaming-sphere" were kind of neutral or ambiguous, implying that the evidence wasn't totally concrete for Banjo or Geno and that suggesting they were totally doneski was jumping the gun. That's why I've had a foundation of optimism after all this time.
