I played Mew2King in a lot of friendlies.

Let's just say I was quite proud of myself when I got good enough to not get 3 stocked within about 10 matches.

Actually they do.

Aerials will clash with ground moves and specials.
Aerials also have disjointedness, which is supposibly the measurement of priority in some people's books.

Aerials have the combination of range and disjointedness at the same time, which together create 'priority'

Wolfs bair seems to have godlike priority for this reason. lets say their hitbox comes out on like frame 5. for frame 1-4, the characters hurtbox is the same. on frame 5, the hitbox (and hurtbox) becomes fully extended instantaneously. the only possible way to override these attacks is if you space AND time your aerial such that the disjointed part (if you attempt to flat out beat it, see ikes fair) comes into contact with that extended hurtbox the instant it is at maximum range. to have both aerials knock each other away, have a non-disjointed aerial hitbox come into contact instead.

they give rise to the notion of priority because of how difficult it is for the other player to be able to space and time their attacks well enough to actually collide. Proirity still exists in the form of pure range (see lucario dair, marth fair) but it is not limited to disjointedness. You have to consider invincible body parts, of hurtboxes that are visible, but dont actually exist. Peach/Sonic Uair Kirby/DDD bair have this trait and it gives it seemingly very high priority, but its just because you cant actually hit their legs. These attacks give the illusion of a disjoint, but for all intents and purposes, they might as well be the definition of it.

Aerials do not clank with each other. The first hitbox to connect with a hurtbox wins.

Aerials DO have priority when used against grounded moves or specials.

Priority is generally referred to as the capacity of a move to override another move or cancel it out when they connect with each other.

Once again, aerials do not connect with each other, they connect with the hurt boxes of the opponent.

Therefore when we are talking about two aerials interracting with each other it is incorrect to say that one has priority over another, because they are not strictly interacting with each other. You would be better served talking about it in terms of disjointedness, and the things DJB discussed in the second part of his post. I believe that bringing them in under the same collective term as priority would be a mistake though, given that priority has always been used when discussing the result of two moves hitting each other.

Seems pretty straight forward to me.

But then I'm sick (SHOOYA THIS BETTER NOT BE BECAUSE OF YOU) so maybe i'm missing something. At the end of the day people have different interpretations of the meaning of priority, so I guess its not worth arguing about.

but the real legend is hall, omg story time.

so we catch the train to san diego and get picked up by havok and hall, I went in hall's car and we talked for a bit and he took us to get carne asada fries (omg so good) and he was a pretty cool guy. he lived just down the street from havok so we saw him like everyday and I learned he was a snake main so I had some matches with him and picked up a few awesome tricks that I have to work into my game.

now watching hall play is nothing short of amazing, people say he plays like johnty (not sure how thats spelt?) but I've never seen johnty play.
Basically the entire screen is exploding the entire time, and he doesnt camp really either, he's in your grill weaving in and out blowing up **** everywhere, no one knows what the ****s going on.

so anyways he seemed pretty good and I was impressed.

then we rocked up to genesis and I watched his pool matches and it was just epic, then he goes up against hylian and me and ted are like "hall you got this" and hall is like "meh I'll probably lose"
so hylian goes IC's and takes port priority and I'm like "**** hall you better janken fist that ****" and he just turns to face me, smiles and says "dont worry its alright" then they go random and get FD and hall decides not to cancel and I'm like "**** hall you better cancel that ****" and he just turns to face me, smiles and says "dont worry its alright"

now this is hylian we're talking about, on fd, with port priority and IC's.

hall then preceded to **** him so hard hylian was practically bleeding out of his ***.

me and ted just looked at each other and broke out the san diego chant (quite an amazing chant)

hylian then CP'ed game and watch but nothing was going to stop hall.

he's just too good, when we got to EVO we were just chillin and we heard that hall beat lain and we were like "holy **** are you serious, hall is amazing!?" we went and found hall to confirm the rumour and hall is like "who is lain anyway, I've never heard of him"
GG, then later hall even took on ally and held his own, and just when it looked like hall had him figured out the set was over, next time hall eh?


tl;dr, hall is ****ing amazing and his matches are the most entertaining to watch.

So yeah, the AVCON 2009 brawl FFA tournament had (apparently) over 400 entrants today... they had to cut it down to a 256 entrant bracket though It was 4 player FFA, top 1 goes through, non-broken items set to low on practically all stages except obvious ones like 75m, warioware etc, single elim best of one round. I won it in the end, its pretty intense when so many rounds went to even stocks and sudden death was enforced >_<
