Reading Attila's article explaining how they play for the love of the game and practice oh so very hard, then coming to a tournament like this and demonstrating that they are definitely no joke, it brings me to think that Australia could do this well on an international scale, even in isolation.
I didn't see the set, but do keep in mind that while Japan's overall population isn't anywhere near that of America, they still have just as wide a range of readily-available opponents due to population density, which brings us back to the age-old point that as Australians, we really can't compete with those two as far as mass-hording experience goes. Also, they're asian.

Not sure where I'm going with that, just saying really; food for thought.

Edit: Couldnt find vids of the whole set but just watched game 5: ****, son!

Only valid argument is the Asian one. Australia can get better, if the players wanted to.

This set, and the Japanese's performance at this tournament, shows that all we need to become robot-like at Smash is to play and practice and play. Reading Attila's article explaining how they play for the love of the game and practice oh so very hard, then coming to a tournament like this and demonstrating that they are definitely no joke, it brings me to think that Australia could do this well on an international scale, even in isolation. Certainly not this year, or maybe even next, but the Japanese prove that it's about practice and caring about the game enough to want to improve. Something that our scene is largely out of touch of.
i agree with this, to an extent at least.

do we have the required dedication?

So I hear 300th moved post gets a prize. Anyway on topic of strings, I assume Toby you are talking about sting theory and by determining your chance of success I would further assume you are talking about the particular dimensions you must inhabit to win the match.

Edit: You can read all of our posts they just require a rather simple cypher.

You can't wash the red off - it stays with you the rest of your life.

And yes Liam I was in fact hinting at the importance in string theory in the calculation of optimal actions within all simultaneous games across every parallel universe.

My own calculations have led me to believe that Olimar can USUALLY upair after a downthrow, but that there is in fact a mode of existence in which this has a 100% chance of turning you into an Atlantic salmon.

Man that was even more amazing to watch a second time. That crowd was so hyped.

I swear Brood must lose his first match on purpose from people I know that played him, he lost his first match and then winning the other two.

Sounds like a pretty good strategy, sandbad the first match to look at your opponents habits and lull them into a false sense of security, the completely overwhelm them the following matches.

Yeah that works in theory but 1 lame counterpick and you've lost a tourney set :p
It obviously also works in practice...

Oh Perth, sometimes I wonder whether you're really that stupid or if it's just one big massive troll.
