TvC had a very solid engine, especially with the risk / reward system with baroque. TvC Ryu is probably the most fun I've had playing with a shoot in the vs series, and Polymar is just incredible.
I still can't believe we went from Baroque to X-Factor. What was Niitsuma thinking?

Baroque requires good timing, meter management and risk vs reward calculating. Xfactor requires you to be losing to get a free comeback. Guess which one attracts all the noobs and brings in the cash.

The Xbox 360! #shotsfired

I used to like Marvel until I realized Vergil, Zero, and X-Factor made everything else irrelevant. Tatsunoko all the way, haters gonna hate.

Don't forget Vergil cheaping out wins and people relying on him as crutch, Zero May Cry cause I love the cheapness and Morridoom nonsense also TAC infinites.

All in all UMVC3 is more of TVC2 than Marvel LBSH.

Also random Marvel gif online for some people.

This thread.

Usually I don't mind it. But when there are TvC enthusiasts that are a bit ignorant of their game then lol

What are you even talking about, Smoove?

You beat Minato in Sean mirrors once, that makes you the lord and savior of all that is 3S.

Isn't that how this works?

I don't have a PC available at my house, so I wouldn't be able to Dolphin netplay.

It's been awhile too so who knows how I am at TvC. Stopped playing it competitively awhile ago.

I just played it with LzR and Massachusetts to Finland was infinitely more playable than native Nintendo Wi-Fi. Got stomped 4-7, but it was enjoyable.

Being somewhat new to fighting games (I've been playing, but never get much better) what is a good game to start learning techniques with? Currently I have SF43D and SFA3.

Guilty Gear is great if you want to master the important fighting game skills. Aka not just learning combos and using only them and still doing decent because the game is Marvel. In GG you can do just fine at beginner level without combos as the game is more about different kinds of blocking, okizeme and such. TvC is also a pretty easy game as far a fighting games go. But Guilty Gear would be the best. It basically forces you to learn how to block, pressure, combo and so on.

Skullgirls has the most comprehensive tutorial with advice that applies to virtually every 2D fighting game.

What do you think about the one on the Wii? That's the only console I have (besides WiiU, which doesn't have a lot of options as of yet)

I've actually been looking at this game for quite a while and I may go with this.

This one seems interesting. All of these games catch my attention.

EDIT: Guilty Gear and Skullgirls are both on Steam. Which one do you guys recommend out of the two?

Guilty Gear is an amazing game to start with, but the most recent game is only on PS3/360, and the next one has only been announced for the PS3/PS4.

I think Guilty Gear is a better game to teach you general fighting game fundamentals(despite not having any tutorials), but Skullgirls is the better choice if you are going with Steam, or if you want an active online community before GGXrd is out(Xrd will likely not be on Steam either).

I actually play the Wii version. AC+R is not even released for European PS3 yet and I cannot bother to get a japanese PSN either as the people I play with don't have the PS3 or a stick so they will have controller issues.

The Guilty Gear on steam is GG Isuka which is mostly considered a bad game. It has nothing to do with real GG.

Skullgirls is the best option. It's cheap, and its tutorials are very useful for new players.

In this case, Skullgirls sounds like the best choice. I'm actually just going to buy it now.

Random Question: Is Skullgirls a play on the term "School girls"?

This is the version you're talking about? I have a lot of options to look at. I'm for sure getting Skullgirls and TvC. Guilty Gear (Wii) is a maybe.

That's an older version. The newest version is Guilty Gear XX Accent Core Plus R on PSN and XBLA in Japan and (finally) US. Europe is still waiting for the Plus R patch.

I wouldn't really bother with the Wii version, since getting it used + shipping still costs pretty much the same as getting the new version of the game in the first place. Unless you don't have a PS3 or 360, in which case, go ahead.

I only have a Wii. Not sure of the chances of getting a WiiU version tho :p. Has Plus R come out on Wii?

Man, I liked Marvel. Only because of the characters, though. I'm a fairly big Marvel fan.

Honestly, while there are some games that teach you fundamentals better than others, choose whichever game appeals to you. Play what you like despite what people say about your game. If you're interested in the game and you have the drive, you'll pick things up. Every fighter post '08 has been pretty easy to learn.

not very much

Roll has this ****ING AMAZING special skill where if she cleans up a puddle with her broom hyper then ALL of her damage is multiplied by a set amount. Then she can charge her broom for another 10% or so extra damage, her damage output is absolutely DISGUSTING, even a normal standard combo into baroque into broom sweep into sweeping charge turbo will crush even the likes of the mega characters like Lightan and that other silly ass robot

couple with a character like Casshern who can hit otg with his hyper... into another sweeping charge turbo, you can easily do 3/4 of someones HP with little to no tech skill and a few meter bars

here's me being bad when the game like, first came out https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7774B-_l0PM

i was so bad, but so happy that I finally got a basically 100 to 0 combo off, lmao (roll's awesome, hate you for not putting her in MvC Capcom.)

oh my. did i mention

that she also has like, one of the best assists, A ****ING HEAL, one of the strongest level 1 and level 3 hypers, an air C attack that pretty much no one could answer and has a tiny hurtbox and almost all of her BnB combos are unmegacrashable

she's basically olimar

FINALLY

the most badass musical theme ever to exist

Too bad the game she was good at didn't have that song. :/
English theme during credits doesn't count

And if you guys say she was good in CGoH, I'll be mad lol

I can't say I ever went back and played CGoH. I know Karas was broken, but what other balance issues were there?

Too many to list. More broken than Marvel 3 in some ways, haha. Roll couldn't combo into launcher without baroque/assist. She had a specific infinite on Daimao. A lot of her stuff was awful. Pretty much everyone had an infinite. Mega Crash was even more dumb since it was scaled less, so you were screwed in the corner and it pretty much meant a dead character (mega crash back, then combo while having free baroque). Ken had some invisible glitch, also some crazy mixups, unblockables. Casshern had unblockables too iirc. etc.

It was a fun game though. Played it at the arcades every now and then before UAS came out.

The song actually is there...
It plays if you clear Arcade with Roll delivering the last hit. The credits minigame is also different.

Edit: Oh, and while CGoH balance was crap for some parts, in my opinion TvC: UAS is amongst the best balanced fighting games ever, and there is still some potential for many characters. Guilty Gear AC is probably one of the few interesting ones that can rival that. I have not played a lot of games in the genre competetively, though, but there are no clearly overpowered or underpowered characters within the non-giants of this game.
