I would really like to see the Cyber Connect 2 engine on a 2d fighter! The Naruto games just look so darn pretty!
This would be cool for (the eventual) DS4. They're obviously going to not do sprites, so if they do it like how the new JJBA game is, I'd be satisfied.
Nishimura art style cel shaded would be what I want if they made it dark/realistic. Bengus style if it's more traditional anime.

I actually think if they do make a DS4, it should turn out ok. SF4 and Marvel do have their fair share of problems (gonna ignore SFXT here...), but the problems aren't even that different from the problems this gen has been having. Plus I'm pretty sure the majority of people never really played Darkstalkers, so I don't feel like a lot of them have the right to say that it won't be as good as earlier DS games. That's just my opinion though.

Edit: (not referring to you, Rutger, but other people)

I wish I knew more about Darkstalkers, but I have hardly ever touched any of the games! I just hope this doesn't end up being another flavor of the month type of game! However, I don't think that would be a problem seeing as there are no big fighters announced for next year!

For consoles there's quite a few aside from Darkstalkers. Injustice, JJBA, GGXXAC+(R patch), BBCP. I'm going to assume UNIB won't get a console port by next year.

i like the hybrid 2d/3d animation technology that disney used for its short 'paperman'

i think capcom would greatly benefit from something like that

Guys, if you see me on PSN and I'm playing Street Fighter 4, message me and say, "Play KoF instead." I try to like SF4, I really do, but then I play it for long enough and...ugh.

What's exactly wrong with it for you? Although I haven't played SF4 in a long time, it's part of the reason why I don't play it a lot or have fun with it. I'm far behind on tech/set ups, and the netcode doesn't necessarily help.

Because of time and netcode, I'm pretty much planning on sticking with ArcSys stuff along with Vampire Savior next year.
Possibly Marvel on the side just for fun, even if I'm really bad at it.

Everything okay, man? Like I can understand getting frustrated a bit if you're having a bad day, but is it something else?

I'm an extremely aggressive player, and that's just not the right way to play SF4. It feels like there's really no safe way to approach on most characters, and it becomes throw fireball/dodge fireball. Defense is so strong, and I don't enjoy constantly fighting just to get in.

Thanks LWX, but my dislike for SF4 goes alot deeper than just one bad day lol. The only thing that really keeps me playing is that I like Juri as a character.

Oh, I understand. The thing for me is some of the combos don't look/feel like combos or like they should be, if that makes sense. plus the one-frame/half-step stuff is kinda a difficult entry level. Though, I can't get entirely off it because my inner Alpha player is yelling "Sakura's good again! WHY aren't you using her like we used to?!!" and keeps tempting me...then leading me to wonder why I just pulled a Venom "we" instead of "I" thing, lol.

Darkstalkers Resurrection looks cool, I'll finally get a chance to try it out.

But whatever they have planned afterwards will have an art style similar to SFIV...
If you ask me, they're getting better with the SFIV art style. The models in Vanilla look like crap compared to the later ones save for Evil Ryu. Then the Tekken characters and Elena transferred very well, though Lili could use less derp face.

I'm not saying that the SFIV artstyle is great, but considering that some characters look "neanderthal", it MIGHT suit Darkstalkers better, but it depends on if the girls don't look like freaks again.

Off topic, but is anyone else here playing Tekken? Despite my frustrations, I'm getting better and enjoying the game a lot. I guess 3D fighters MIGHT be more of my kind of thing.

I think the Lord Raptor and Demitri they showed on the Darkstalkers Are Not Dead trailer looked pretty cool to be honest, and I think they'd look fine converted to 3D as Morrigan, Felicia, and Hsien-Ko look good on UMVC3.

I agree with KumaOso in the fact that the characters could suit the SFIV artstyle, but my only problem with the SFIV style is that the models seem quite large on the screen compared to UMVC3 and older Capcom titles, which could be awkward considering Darkstalkers has some big characters.

Tekken's fun, although I'm crap at it. I've got some of Armor King's basics down (i.e I can remember a majority of his moves, pull off a 60 odd-ish damage solo combo, and can do/remember some of his grab chains), but other than that I've just been looking for characters who I enjoy playing as. Armor King and Yoshimitsu are definitely being a team though <3.

I still prefer Soulcalibur's 8 way run system more than Tekken's sidestep/walk lark though.

Marvel's character designs were done by Shinkiro who is a different person than the SFIV designer.

The characters seem large because the game is zoomed in more than in Marvel. Darkstalkers should be fine really.

I know it was a different designer lol. I was just saying that it proves that they'd look OK in 3D, because I know there are a lot of folk out there who do want the series to go in that direction/dimension.

Darkstalkers had some nasty *** stuff in it. I'm almost worried to know what the game will look like in 3D.

So, Street Fighter X Tekken is getting a Version 2013 update, and the change list for the Street Fighter cast is up. Thoughts?

Five frame throws are still garbage. :<

Props to Capcom, I guess. For trying to do what they can with that game. As far as the global community goes though, this may be a larger repeat of what could be called the Skullgirls syndrome, in which a game receives a massive overhaul after a majority of players have already moved on.

SFxT needs fundamental changes. These are good for balance, but they don't change the basic problems of SFxT.

SFxT's main issue for me isn't necessarily what it IS, but how good it COULD have been. Like, it could've been CVS2 good. *sigh* Now I'm wishing for CVS3.

I agree with Jam. To me, the game's problems lies in the actual mechanics, so they'd have to tweak and make system changes to get my attention. Of course, the people who already like the game wouldn't want something like that to happen, so changing them is kind of risky.

But really, I think the 2013 patch is looking bad so far. After looking at the changes, most of the changes they did were nerfs.
This is a real turnoff for any of the existing fans for SFXT.

That's really true. This may sound shallow as hell, but after seeing the nerfs to Juri, it really killed a lot of my interest in the game.

Meanwhile, Chun-Li got nothing but buffs, even though she was already good. I main her, and even I think they went overboard.

I'm rather pleased to see that at least Capcom went all out on changing up the game. The Street Fighter characters got so many changes, and it looks like 3 framers are phasing out in favor of 4 framers. I remember hearing Tekken did something similar with getting rid of 8 frame jabs to where it's 10 frames and everyone has one.

I do like that Elena got nothing but buffs. As for the mechanic changes, I do like that grey life recovery is slower which was indeed a problem along with the meter building changes. It looks like that with the right combos, you might be able to build a bar for a combo while doing it like in Marvel.

@Lythium
I think part of the factor behind Skullgirls Syndrome is not only the fact that the patch is taking too damn long to come out, but also the fact that FGC has become ridiculously trendy with fighting games. In all seriousness, does anyone expect Persona to survive the return of Guilty Gear and a new BlazBlue? It was one reason why I never showed much interest in Persona.

Skullgirls also made the mistake of announcing the patch WAY before its release. I can understand why people aren't playing; why learn things that may or may not work in the future?

But I do agree that the FGC is too trendy with new games, although I blame that more on the developers/publishers. The FGC is a hype-driven community, and it's much easier to generate hype about new games than maintain hype. The game makers are capitalizing on that by putting out game after game. I mean seriously, does anyone actually care about a new Darkstalkers? But the hype train will get rolling between now and then, and it'll be the Second Coming until release day and no one buys it.

SFxT and P4A are really good examples of this. SFxT was clearly rushed to get it out before the hype died. P4A is the game that everyone said would bring air-dashers into the mainstream, and there was tons of hype built up before release, although the publishers/developers knew all along that BB3 was in the wings, just another way to generate revenue from hype.

I feel like this post rambled a bit, but I hope I got my point across.

People don't have to play only one game.

Numbers will probably fall a bit, but I imagine a Persona setup will be at any big GG or BB event.

I'll continue to play all three.

i still don't trust that people will play gg after r is on consoles

too many 'niche' and 'classic' fighting games become flavor of the month sort of ordeals.

look at third strike online

however i require lightning swords and dolphin cars

but not everyone is into lightning swords and dolphin cars

so the question is still up in the air

I imagine GG will get pretty much the same anime crowd that P4U and BB have.

Current Capcom fans don't want good fighting games will not play anything without Ryu. :054:

@Jam
I wouldn't put so much blame on the developers as much as I would the FGC. I think the community has a sheep like mentality at times with games. They feel the need to be in the loop with every new game that comes out so they play it for a while only to go onto the next one when they should just play the games they like and not worry about being in the loop for this or that game. Thankfully, I realized this after KOF. I mean, I can still watch KOF matches without playing it after all, same with Marvel.

I agree with you. I'm just saying that a "follow the leader" mentality is a predictable part of a community as dependent on hype and word of mouth as the FGC is. After all, nothing is more hype than a new game.

Where I fault the developers is in exploiting the worst parts of that weakness in the FGC by basically putting out a new major release every quarter. They're trying to wring every dollar out of the FGC they can in the short term, but in the long term they're undermining the community by fracturing it. I have to disagree with Rutger; it seems like people really do only play one game, and despite all of the releases since 2009, the only ones that consistently bring in crowds are SF4 and MvC3. It's impossible to build any other communities when the herd is always moving on.
