The pre-registrants for EXPosure 15 easily surpassed 130 unique entrants. Melee Singles alone stood around 110. Would the day-of attendees number finally surpass 100 for a single event at an EXPosure?!

As it turns out, not quite.

But with 90 Melee Singles entrants, EXP15 is now the closest that EXP gaming has come to hosting a 100+ (for a single event) monthly!

Despite the Kentuckens (Kentuckites?) registering online and making it clear that they were attending, something went wrong and their car never showed. Wisconsin & Central Illinois still made their respective trips down and up, though, and Strong Bad made his long awaited return to the City of Broad Shoulders for the first Project M 3.5 monthly at EXP.

Melee was more of a toss-up than usual; 3 of the top Midwestern players (Dart, Kels, Frootloop) were in attendance this time around. No easy brackets for Kelly Smith today! In addition, the FB group voted on a poll to try out the Swiss Tournament System for Melee pools, to mixed results. Some liked it, but with uneven numbers in some pools and a lack of understanding from many of the attendees, the schedule ended up falling slightly behind.

My personal opinion? Interesting in concept but poorly executed. Back to bracket pools imo.

Frootloop, coming off the momentum of his second place finish over Kels at KotN3, was able to set up a WF rematch with the Chicago Fox main after narrowly defeating Dart in Semis. Kels first resorted to the Marth & Sheik, but Frootloop shows that his victories over Kels secondaries at KotN3 weren't flukes and managed to force Kels' Fox out. After clutching game 5, Frootloop advanced to Grand Finals through winner's side.

Dart made a short run through losers to meet Kels in Loser's Finals, but after a super close set Kels' Sheik was enough to earn him his rematch against Frank. In GF, Kels once against started with Sheik, but after getting 2 stocked it was all Fox. A quick 3-0 later Frootloop earned his third consecutive tournament set against Kels. (and made Kelly salty for the rest of the day.)

Nobody knew how PM Singles would play out. Despite the much lower player turnout for PM, the top of the bracket was stacked with good players. Frootloop, Strong Bad, and Ripple were all contenders from out of Chicago, and none of the top Chicago players were absent.

Towards the end of 3.02, the EXP Wavedash Wednesday weeklies had been mostly Kels, Dart, and Oro?! coming out on top. at EXP15, however, both Kels and Dart barely managed to sneak in top 8 finishes, tying one another at 7th place.

The out of region players all made strong runs at the bracket. Frootloop's Sheik made it through a host of tough players to Winner's Finals. Ripple, after being knocked into Loser's Bracket by Oro?!, made it to Loser's Semis where he lost to Strong Bad, who, despite dropping a disappointing set in Winner's Quarters to Scythe, managed to run it all the way through Loser's to earn his shot at the title against Oro?! in Grand Finals. The common denominator of these 3 players run through bracket was that once each of them ran into Oro?!, their luck was up.

Indeed, Oro?! turned out to be the savior of Chicago PM, dropping only 2 games(one to Kirkq and one to Frootloop) on his way to the EXP15 title, and making it clear that despite the changes to ZSS in 3.5, she is still dangerous in the right hands.

Yeah, I definitely wasn't too huge of a fan of running Swiss. This end bracket for Melee is really bad from anybody placing 17th or worse. The pokémon kids were right when they said not to go for it, and it ended up hurting both Melee and PM for time and seeding and stuff. Overall, not my favorite tourney from EXP, but I'm also just a little salty that I played like garbage.

GG's to everybody I played with, and I'll see a bunch of you tomorrow at the weekly.

Wasn't a huge fan of Swiss either, LILD got 2nd seed for losing first round and never had to play me or Dart. Also, I don't think it saved time compared to having a bunch of bracket pools in certain parts of the venue.
