Adding "Super" was arguably less creative than 360, actually.
Yeah, good point.

360 wasn't the most creative name in the world but it's better than tacking on a new, sequential number each time.
True, true.

Also I'm betting 720 isn't going to happen -- 360 was probably just for the "revolution" part.
Then I wonder what they'll name a third Xbox?

The Xbox We-Swear-There-Is-No-Red-Ring-This-Time? Na....

I have too. I love western games (I actually liked Dante's Inferno, and some recent posts make me feel bad for liking it), but I'm eastern in heart. Since Capcom's Breath of Fire is dead, FF is my life force D;. I have to get it, even if it's fail. Linear Rpg = fail. Thus, my expectations are low.
I don't spend money on something I'm expecting to suck. Because if I do all I'm teaching that game's developer is that they can make a poor game and still make a good amount of money from it.

As for the Eastern thing... well, no offense I was into JRPGs and anime and other eastern stuff big time when I was younger. Then I got older and suddenly I found JPRG characters annoying, anime shallow and poorly written (with some exceptions) and then I noticed that things like Elder Scrolls, Magic the Gathering, Star Trek and The Lord of the Rings interested me much more than many eastern games. I don't even think I can remember the last time I picked up a Japanese comic... but to each his own.

Yeah, I mean I'm not really a Microsoft fan, but their designs show some originality. Nintendo wins the originality though, hands down. Sony just displeases me with their names. Is it so hard to come up with a new name? =/

I'd just like to say this for all the Nintendo fans out there that feel the same way as I do.

Finally...FINALLY, we have won.
After friends in school, on forums, and within families have criticized the Wii, we definitely now have control over the gaming market.

*high fives everyone on Smashboards*

I know, after years of "lol Wii" and lame press conferences, Nintendo FINALLY gets back in the game and kicks some major assage!

Microsoft? Meh, new Gears and a Halo spin-off along with the Eye-Toy on steroids.

Sony? Another Killzone and a new Twisted Metal along with a Wiimote knock-off.

Nintendo? New Zelda, Kid Icarus, Meroid, Donkey Kong Country, Golden Sun and a freaking kick *** hand held.

Yep, Nintendo is easily going to have to best year out of those three.

@ finalark: You don't like the 360. We get it.
Wat?

...

Oh, the name thing. I was gonna say something about the PS, be he kind of already did it for me.

Then again, "Super NES" isn't the most creative thing either.

Well I'm 18, to say the least, but you're right too some extent. Tales games by namco are cliche heaven, but I still liked them. I love manga though, I'm just a very eastern like guy when it comes to that stuff. I do love things like Elder scrolls, Dragon Age, Dante's Inferno (heck I think Killzone is cool), so I'm not one of those people that are defined by one type; I like both, I'll just always like eastern more. (Run-on sentence there)

Oh and I love LOTR but the games need to stop, it's a book not a game ****.

I guess when it comes down to it I'm more Nintendo/JRPG than American, but too each their own. The things that should bring people together is liking games, not liking types of games. When people seriously fight over each other over their taste in games, it weirds me out lol.

You have to admit though, War in the North is looking pretty kick-***.

Don't get me wrong though, I do love Nintendo (which is why I'm on a Nintendo forum) and there are a number of JRPGs that I like.

I agree with this. Sure I bash heads with people of opposing opinion when it comes to games but as far as I'm concerned as long as we all respect each other and all know that we're all gamers here and nobody was hurt to badly I'm okay with it.

It looks good but do you know anything of the author? If he knew games were being made-- no if he knew MOVIES were made, he'd kill us all. But I'm very picky/defensive when it comes to literature, though I'm majoring in Accounting and minoring in Economics, I want to write so badly. That being said part of me is very sensitive on literature being games and movies.

Off that though, it's a shame you live so far away =p. Brawl and stuff is so much more fun without lag, you know? Go-Nintendo-And-Their-Wifi. (As for FPS...I like them..but Bar-Metroid I suck eggs at them. Actually, my friends who have a Halo team begged me to "train myself" because of "potential" but because I never have/will/do, I fail hardcore =()

Yeah well... he's kind of dead.

I want to write so badly.
So do I, but getting noticed is hard.

I used to think that I sucked at FPS, it turns out that the people I was training against were just really, really good.

I agree with you except for the "we have won" part. The way I see it, even a lot of people who consider themselves Nintendo fans have openly criticized the wii. I'm not saying that if you do your not a fan, Its just that it doesn't make sense to create a "we have been subjected to hate" kinda feel when plenty of fans have even made fun of Nintendo's performances. Maybe I'm just reading your post wrong.

I'm ruining the moment aren't I?

@ Finalark : My friend who I played Coop with wins like... thousands of dollars everytime he goes to Texas because of Killzone/Halo, I put him down a lot (We pick on each other) but FPS is definitely his forte. We played together and I had never held a 360 controller before and I did terrible compared to him, but I did better than people on one guy on his team (who didn't suck at all) and kept up decently. I guess video games for 16 years does that too you though, but I could never get into it, it isn't my genre of games.

And... it is hard to get noticed, I'm doing Accounting/Economics because I excel in that (I really want to play in the stock market so badly), but I want to write something regardless of success. I just feel like the story needs to be out there. And everyone of religious affiliation will hate me<3

Yeah, mostly you are.
I've done my share of Wii bashing, but that doesn't mean you're completely giving up hope. You act like everyone who has ever owned a Wii or DS has hated it and bashed it equally among their friends.
Pretty weak generalization, especially assuming that anyone with that mindset might as well either:
A) Turn in their Wii for a preferred console.
B) Stop complaining about trivial things.

And yeah, I was mostly referring to the media and how the Wii is consistently hammered for trivial things in comparison.

And finalark is right too.
We can at least enjoy that.
or can we -_-

I always liked the Wii. Maybe because I'm poor and could afford it, lol. Though they had a weak patch, now is their glory, that is for sure. I have a friend who HATES Nintendo, I mean HATE. And he is like "Holy **** at Nintendo..."

I guess I didn't word it properly. I don't mean that everyone has bashed. There are many people who don't bash at all or do little amounts of it. Its just the "FINALLY we won" part of your post made it seem like you were saying something else. It seems I misinterpreted what you were saying.

@Meta-Kirby: Sales? Definently, although this isn't what you meant.
E3 2010? Sure
Did Nintendo win IMO? Yes
Do they have the respect of there core games? For the most part, no.

Nintendo has already lost the majority of there fan base due to numerous factions (Weak hardware, poor multiplatform ports, tons of shovelware, E3 2008). One excellent conference will not immediately recitify the damage that has been done to the core fan base of Nintendo.

The only way we can truly "win" for the core games is following two options:

A): Bring back the majority of the former core Nintendo fans.
B): Raise a new generation of core gamers.

Both will be extremely difficult at best and **** near impossible at worst. Nintendo cannot survive with solely it's already small core fan base. That's why casual gamers exist. The sad part is that A will be much harder then B. Nintendo needs a strong core fan base and it doesn't have that. Chances are, most of the people who are no longer Nintendo fans will stay that way as they will continue to claim that Nintendo has crossed a line too far for them to bear playing another Nintendo game. So the safer option is to grow a new generation of core gamers.

But even that will be difficult. The Wii and DS are associated with casuals games, not a friendly environment for building up a strong and dedicated core fan base. To build up a solid core fan base, it would require Nintendo to elminate some casual focus onto there future systems. Balance will be one **** of a challenge to complete. If we don't achieve that, either that we put with another generation of whining from the Nintendo fan base or Nintendo suffers financially.

Come to think about it, I should make a blog about this.

So what will it take?
Assuming that this was, in fact, just a conference and none of these games actually existed/were being released to the public to satisfy their needs, it could be logical to conclude that this conference would not regain the respect of the hardcore gamer.
But it's a rather lousy assumption to say that "for the most part" they don't have the support of their gamers, when it's clear that they've catered/dedicated the next few semesters of business to the hardcore gamer.
The way you say we can "win" hardcore gamers back is utterly false. We don't have to raise a new generation of hardcore gamers because they won't ever be hardcore gamers until this time 5-10 years from now. And for your first point, Nintendo, by making games such as Kirby, Donkey Kong, Golden Sun, Mario, and Zelda, IS bringing back their former core Nintendo fans.
Basically, Nintendo is beginning to accomplish "A" on your list, and "B" is just not a valid path to take.

I think youre overcomplicating things with this "core," "hardcore," and "casual" fanbase. Nintendo sells games. They are doing it at a rate high above their peers. The only thing that they need to do to keep fans happy and make new fans is simple: Make Good Games. If a game is well made and its fun, then no one will care who it is directed at as it will be fun for all gamers.

Sure, Nintendo could focus on "online features," achievements, 16 player matches, tons of unlockables, multiple multiplayer scenarios each with lagless online support, etc. that hardcore gamers clamor about. But that is not what got them their original fan base. Well designed video games got them their fans, and if they keep making good games, then they will come back. There really is no threat of Nintendo flopping because of the lack of "hardcore" gamers.

That's my two cents.

Anybody here think Sonic 4 has pretty bad spinning game? I mean when Sonic jumps, he uncurls mid air allowing for Sonic to get hit by enemies in mid air

Been examining a video to death, have we?

I've heard nothing but good things about the game, and I think the "uncurling" was from homing attacks.

I'm not a hardcore Sonic fan, but is that really a big deal? Don't take it the wrong way, in the games I obsess over I'm extremely picky, I just don't understand what you're referring too. (And watching the video isn't helping D:)

but holy **** that game looks fun. That and Sonic Colors.

Dude, look at the video. When sonic jumps, he's supposed to stay in a ball for the duration of the jump. In this game you can clearly see him uncurling in mid air. I'm not being picky, it's horrible gameplay if he uncurls mid air when he's about to hit an enemy.

Say you curl into a ball and spin dash up a ramp. You go up in mid air and you, being curled up in a ball and all, are about to finish off the enemy in the air. Then imagine suddenly uncurling from the ball and then getting hit, thus losing all your rings.

I'm not being picky, that's an obvious flaw in the game.

EDIT: finalark, me being the old school Sonic fan I am, I'm obviously not gonna use the god**** homing attack

It's because they are American, why would they give 100% Jp company credit? (Sony is half and half nowadays)

Oh my god

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xavIuDbwrCk&feature=channel

These guys are being waaaaaaaay too kind to Microsoft and Sony, and they're not giving Nintendo enough credit...
Meh, just two fanboys who refuse to admit that MS and Sony had crappy conferences.

I liked how the guys at screw attack summed up Microsoft's press conference (STRONG LANGUAGE ALERT): http://screwattack.com/videos/Exclusive-Microsoft-Press-Conference-Recap

It's because they are American, why would they give 100% Jp company credit? (Sony is half and half nowadays)
No, it's not because they don't bend over backwards to warship Japan, it's just because they're a bunch of MS and Sony fanboys over that at IGN (more so MS than Sony).

IGN has favoritism towards Sony & Microsoft IMO. It's that simple.
But still, I used to have favoritism towards Microsoft and somewhat Sony before This Monday/Tuesday. You think that with this terrible conference they would've realized how much they suck.

And even though they don't like Nintendo, after this year's stupendous show, they would've at least given it more props, if not lose trust in Microsoft/Sony

Although I do agree with them in the fact that the speech by that Kevin Butler guy was ****ing epic
