Yay for Zelda. She is defiantly my main character. I've decided to pick up the game again after a long absence and I enjoy using Zelda. She isn't that bad if you know the game and have a little bit of brains. Yes she is slow but that doesn't make her incapable of winning. I've beaten a lot of people that are considered really good and given many a great run with her so shes not too bad. I can understand to an extent after playing with her for years why people would dislike her. I play to win of course but I also am going to play with who I enjoy playing with regardless their tier. Had fun returning to smash at animefest and was nice meeting you Mr.300 and Ares.

Raise your hand if you have ever pulled off a super insulting Zelda toe spike...

*raises hand*

...now raise your hand if you have ever pulled off a DOUBLE toe spike on both members of the opposite team at the same time while they were scrambling to recover...

*raises hand*

ZELDA=2GOOD ON TEAMS!

I agree. It takes alot of experience, practice and specializing in her to beat people that know what they're doing. And get used to losing alot, cause it will happen both before and after you learn how to play Zelda.

haha so true... so true...

But funny in my case I won ALOT when i picked zelda at first... which got me thinking "wth? Zelda rules!" Then as I played more and more... people knew how to fight her. thus resulting in losses, but I stuck with it and wanted to be a decent enough zelda to take out some high tiers.

Yes yes. That was the same pattern that I had except it just depended on the play style of my opponents. Also the character match ups really started to show once people adjusted to my reach and my tricks. (it's such a pain to have to come up with new edge guarding and new moves out of sheild etc). To this day I have a hard tme against certain people mainly because I don't play with them enough. School keeps us apart. lolz

Some things you will see when people really want to beat your Zelda. (like full on bytch style)

1. Captain Falcon-Lots of dash dancing and grabs. If they're fast enough they will know what to do once they throw you.

2. Sheik-Again lots of grabs and down throws and combos off of it. At lower percents it's usually a coupld of forward tilts or they may try to jab you to reset the grab depending on how you DI. But yeah they'll wash rinse and repeat until they can either fair, bair or uair depending on the stage.

3. Fox-Lots of wave shine combos. Usually they start from the dair. And lots of grabs to uair. Smash DI that **** to get out of it. Upsmash fishing when you are at high damage. And of course run away lazers.

Seriously it's the same stuff over and over. But hey if you gotten your friends to play like that, then that must mean your Zelda is doing something right.

Tricking the opponent isn't everything, but it is certainly a part of it. Reading techs, following DI and predicting certain habits of characters is also very important. Mindgames is certainly a must though. =w=

Falcon is not as bad as everyone thinks he is. Sure he is like 50x faster than Zelda and can easily combo you to death. All you have to do is read what he is going to do(Like every character in the game) and punish him hard for his mistakes(Just like your suppose to do with anyone you play Zelda against). Just space yourself well and keep him out with your range(f-air and b-air). Since he does'nt have any projectiles(Since he is like a projectile himself), just keep him away with your feet. lol. Of course since he is so fast, you would need to watch and read him.

Sheik is pretty bad, but its still completely winnable. Majority of every Sheik plays pretty identical, so if your know what their gonna do, just use moves that Zelda have that will completely counter their moves. Sounds simple right?

In other words, to play anyone with Zelda is to have the ability to read what their gonna do next and be able to follow it up with a punishable attack while at the same time keeping them pressured(Usually with a wall of f-airs and b-airs) so you can bait them to attack or keep them cautious, forcing them to usually screw up more)

Fast Campy Chars > Zelda

Whether it be dashdance, laser, or needle flavored it all tastes like crap and lose. They play the defensive game much better. If Zelda's able to effectively fight those characters primarily by keeping them away and baiting and punishing their offense they're doing it wrong imo.

So true. They would be doing it wrong. lolz =w=

At least we most of us have agreed that Fox is number one. lolz

I will agree also that Marth ***** hard. Getting inside a good marth's sword is a very uphill battle. And inside his sword is most likely in his grab range.

I personally think Falco who knows how to play against zelda is harder than a Falcon who knows how to play zelda. But that's just from personal experience. I would have it

1.)Fox
2.)Marth
3.)Shiek
4.)Falco
5.)Falcon

That's just me though I guess.

Depending on the level and if they camp me I won't even do the match up. I'll fight a fox, falco or shiek on a relatively smaller stage like Fountain of Dreams or Yoshi's Story(Shy guy one). Screw fighting them on longer stages like F-D or Dreamland64 (If they are camping like a hill billy.) I can get a Falco to come at me. I cannot get a shiek or fox to come at me if they are campy(On bigger stages).

And I like as much room as possible fighting captain falcon or marth >.>; so just the opposite lol

This is my opinion too.

I must also mention that I probably have a way easier time with Marth than I should, and a way harder time with Peach..

soooooooooo i guess my question goes unanswered
Well, waiting for them to come to you may not be the best idea at times.

1. Spacies and Sheik can shoot you up for tons of free damage

2. Marths "force grab" + dash dance = alot of reach and speed. Also keep in mind that most of marths attacks puts his hit box in front of him. Lots of priority.

3. CF can also just DD and JCG. Down throw to ....alot of things. (when that happens I try to air dodge out of it) I think Mow told me about that.

All in all trying to totally turtle really doesn't help Zelda's overall chances. There has to be some kind of approach.

I hope that made sense. =w=

I don't know, Zelda really isn't a jack of trades, so you can't really make a good approach. It's more like baiting them, then keeping up a bit of pressure until you kill them, then repeating.

Hang around and dashdance or fair/bair, and wait for them to advance, as has been said a dozen times, then, punish any mistake.

I for one, am a shield-camping Zelda, so my biggest worry is grabby characters, like Falcon, Marth, Sheik, etc. But campy characters are hell. I don't know how many times I've been up against my friend's Peach on Dream Land or something just to get camp-*****. As you know, Zelda has crappy speed, and while Peach isn't any better in the speed category, at least she has a usable projectile.

I think Peach is the eziest of the people with range to make them come to you. Catch the turnips if it's throw far, if you know the reflect will hit it back at peach reflect it. IF all else fails run the hell away and repeat.

And you can be offensive on some people. Like Falco for instance you can't let him camp you because even with powershield he can just hold his reflect each time until your shield diminishes. But you can be offensive on falco, If you get a jab in, normally after the stun if you're approaching them they are expecting something. Whether it's a dash attack or grab or smash attack. Pick accordingly to your prediction of their prediction. Also you can space falco with kicks, be sure your l-canceling it into something so he doesn't just run up to you and start pillaring. I use to have a bad habit of L-canceled kick to shield... didn't work to well cuz I use to use it too much back in the day.

It's should never be a 0 to death combo, especially on a CFalcon (who get's out of the chaingrab eariler).

Yeah, Falcon can jump out very early. I think it was like 30ish or something when I tested them. You can u-smash to kick him when they don't DI to jump out though, but it certainly won't kill him unless he DIs the kick like crap and/or you steal his jump.

Fox and Falco I think was until 50-55 or so if you walk slightly and turn around and grab when they don't DI to try to jump out. When they don't DI and are too high to regrab you can walk forward and turnaround upward angled f-tilt into a kick to finish it, tack on extra damage, and also possibly steal their DJ. If they DI the throw away you can walk into an f-tilt to kick to finish it as well.

Too bad with any of them if they know to DI behind you nearly everytime it makes it extremely difficult to consistently go from very low damage to the kick finish at mid/high percent since your dash needs to be started perfectly out of the throw and the grab needs to be timed near frame perfect to be able to get close enough while still coming out before they hit the ground/can jump out. Her grab being awkwardly slow doesn't really help either. When they DI away it's really easy to get the regrab though.

Ya Magus hit it right on the button. Up throwing fast fallers is just for racking up percent, but it shouldn't zero to death. Ugh...CF is so frikin heavy. Even after a few throws and a kick, if he DIs properly he goes nowhere.
