Nope.
Fan demand doesn't really do **** for a Pokemon's chances. That's up to Nintendo, Sakurai, and the grace of the Pokemon Company. And it's going to be from whomever's the latest.

Even if they considered fan demand and went backwards, they already have an official fan poll and Decidueye doesn't even rank top 20.

Did anyone else think the end of the Pyra/Mythra trailer with the XBDE model Shulk was going to reveal a Cloud-style update for him, like the one Sephiroth came with? Like every 2nd palette of his (besides the swimsuit) was going to be replaced with his Future Connected outfit and the Monado Replica or something. It was honestly jarring going from Smash footage to XB footage.

That wasn't his XBDE model. It was just his Smash model.

Only the first part of the trailer was made by Monolith. Everything after Pyra appears is just Smash.

Yeah, I'm thinking if Sakurai was made aware of Legends, and the Starter Trio was decided on, and they just told him to pick one for Smash, he's probably picked Decidueye because Decidueye almost made it in already. And I don't even want Decidueye in, as I personally wanted Primarina in back in Base Game, still kinda do. That and how the Event killed Gen 8's Main Lineup. Wouldn't be surprised if Sakurai knew of Legends and picked Decidueye, and then gave Gen 8 an Event to promote it. Not saying Decidueye is in, I'm just saying Decidueye has a compelling case to be made for them due to Legends.

Ah yes, despite the fact that I don't even think Echoes was in development when Corrin was decided. Plus the fact that that was a Remake, not a New Game entirely. That and Legends has likely been in development for a little longer than the usual Pokemon Game, so you know. Alongside how that comparison isn't even remotely similar. Considering one likely barely started Development, and was likely never intended to release close enough to Smash 3DS/Wii U to even be an option, while Legend's Release Date is probably one that was delayed a little, and likely intended to have been a Holiday Title for 2021 had Covid not have gotten involved.

It's also possible that Sakurai may have reserved a spot for a Pokemon, to be decided on later. That would technically still count as the characters for FP2 having been decided upon beforehand, while giving TPCI time to think about who they wanted. I don't think a Pokemon is very likely, but I could see this having happened if we do get one.

That doesn't mean anything at all.
The Pokemon Company obviously wasn't considering popularity when choosing those starters to include in Pokemon Legends considering neither of the other 2 starters are on the level of Rowlet.

There's a huge amount of assumptions going on with your reasoning:

if Nintendo wanted Pokemon for DLC to promote Legends, a game that comes out 6+ months after Smash DLC ends
if they forced him to choose a starter from Legends and not literally any other Pokemon in Legends,
and if Sakurai's reasoning picking a character was that "well I almost picked him last time" when he's never done so before,
... he would pick Decidueye

When from precedent, we know Sakurai doesn't pick Pokemon from generations already represented and he doesn't pick pokemon from generations that missed the bus. Exception of course is PT and Mewtwo because Gen 1 is that important to them.

I don’t think Decidueye is happening. Legends is coming out next year probably Feb or March and Smash DLC is on track to end in like October. I think people here are trying to cope with the thought of Gen 8 by latching on to anything not it lol

While we're discussing a Legends trainer pack, I'd do it like this:

• Cyndaquil as a quick damage-focused character. To try and differentiate it from Squirtle, make it more focused on single-hit damage rather than combos. As a result, it'd be fairly risky as well, thanks to the light weight.
• Dewott as a straightforward rushdown character. Would have some decent disjoints on it as well, thanks to the Scalchops.
• Decidueye as a trapping/zoning character, using the arrows. Would also be fairly lightweight, being a Ghost-type.

Basically, I've made this into the lightweight team. Well then.

My first goal was avoiding any overlap in both evolutionary level and typing with 's team, to avoid redundancy. This automatically disqualified Oshawott, Dartrix, and Typhlosion. I also wanted to avoid overlap in archetype, so I avoided using Samurott as a heavyweight like Charizard. This left Decidueye as the sole final evo remaining. The other two just fell into place from there. Helps that Dewott's pretty distinctive compared to the other middle evos, thanks to the dual Scalchops.

To add on to what Idon said, another thing I'll say is that when it comes to promotional (or at least, characters picked with a later game in mind) characters they want it to be from a game that's either already out or about to come out. XY was already out by the time Greninja was revealed and Smash 4 released, same with SM and even USUM for Incineroar with Ultimate, Corrin came out within a couple weeks of Fates internationally and was already out in Japan, and Byleth came out months after TH. The only exception that comes to mind is Roy, and that was because his game got delayed as otherwise he would've released after Binding Blade and even then he was an easy clone thrown together within the short amount of time they had.

Considering DLC is looking to be wrapped up by Fall at the latest, it's very unlikely that Legends would be in consideration for promotion based on the previous habits of Smash. If Nintendo wanted to promote something, it'd probably be something within their mid-late 2021 games, not something that releases the next year.

Seeing how were on the topic of Pokemon...

I just wanna say Happy 25th Anniversary to Pokemon.

This was the montage they showed in the opening of yesterday's "Pokemon Presentation" and man is it really nostalgic and it's amazing how far the series has come to become the biggest media franchise in the world.

As someone who's been playing Pokemon since the beginning back when I was 5-6 years old in the late 90's when it first came over from Japan, I'd be lying if I said I didn't get a few tears watching this video, Couldn't have imagined my childhood without it and the way it shaped my life as a gamer and person.

Thanks for the memories Pokemon.

I'd also like to add that the base game has different standards for the DLC, and especially with Melee and Ultimate in general. Melee was made in a time when the standards of Smash hadn't solidified, and it was pretty much filling out all the major Nintendo characters at the time, with some clones on the side (Though the former wouldn't be finished until Brawl). By the time of Ultimate, the standards have been set, we haven't gotten another character added before the release of their game in decades, and now that we're in the DLC cycle, Nintendo's taken the reigns from Sakurai. I think it's safe to say Roy was just a case of "early installment weirdness," so to speak.

I could see a double reveal if the final characters are only well known in one gaming hemisphere respectively. So if it was something like Master Chief and Reimu as our final characters, it'll be possible. But otherwise I can't see it happening, and I'm starting to not expect Reimu at this rate.

Halo gets official Japanese dub all the time. It's not even comparable to Touhou. I think Puyopuyo is better comparison.

Why would you do Cyndaquil and Dewott when you could do the objectively better Quilava (the best middle evolution for a starter) and Oshawott?

Oshawott, great as it is, would've had too much overlap with Squirtle. Small, lightweight, probably melee/combo-focused, base level, and Water-type. The other two happened because I felt Decidueye could've differentiated itself from Charizard more than Samurott, being a lightweight projectile user over a big heavyweight, and the rest fell into place from there.

So how come we aren't thinking about the possibility of all three Pokemon being fully evolved when speaking about the Legends Trainer possibility? I mean, Rowlet, Cyndaquil, Oshawatt, Dewott, Quilava and Dartrix aren't bad either, but at the same time, nothing is also stopping them from doing Typlosion, Samurott and Decidueye. And all three would be different from each other.
-Typlosion would be the speedster of the three with a lot of rolling moves like Flame Wheel, Rollout, Gyro Ball, etc.
-Samurott would be the bruiser of the three, with a decent middle range thanks to it's swords.
-Decidueye would be the zoner of the three, with a focus on ranged moves and maybe a couple trap-like moves, as the arrows from one of it's moves apparently prevents the opponent from moving/fleeing.

That aside, if the Trainer were to have two of the starters in the first and second form, I think it should be Cyndaquil, Dewott and Decidueye to differentiate them from Squirtle, Ivysaur and Charizard. And I feel like Oshawott would be a bit too similar to Squirtle stat-wise. Dewott would have a bit more bulk to them.

Uh... that is completely unknown. It's more than likely that the "16" param limit is their intended limit since more stuff in the game points to that rather than the executable stuff. Although, this is Sakurai and the team, so I guess anything is possible. Although, if I were a betting man, I don't think all of the executable placeholders will be filled.

Going by how PT appears to use multiple slots, my guess is that P/M will use two.

That said... that would be a lot of leftover slots after Volume 2 is done. Enough to fill three more Passes, if my count is correct. So at this point I kinda doubt those mean too much.

So Hoenne, Unova or Galar (as much as I don't like S&S) I've been dying for Blaziken ever since I was a kid back in the Brawl days and would still love to see him in even as a faster echo of Incineroar.

I remember back when Smash 4 DLC was going around and everyone thought that Sceptile would be added due to Omega Ruby and Alpha Saphire being the newest games and Charizard and Greninja already were fully evolved starters that represented Fire and Water as Sceptile was supposed to fill the Grass line.

The ended up not happening though. Shame cause Hoenne is my favorite region.

Flare Blitz from Zard, up B from Ken but probably renamed to Sky Uppercut, Flamethrower also taken from Zard, Revenge for down B if they want to make him scary (maybe even have it increase his speed instead of KO power in reference to Mega Blaziken's Speed Boost), grabs and throws taken from either character, etc.

That's the best way I'd seen him too. Another way would be make him a Captain Falcon/Lucario/Incineroar hybrid. Make him a rushdown fighter with standard moves comparable to Falcon and Lucario, give him a Link like side smash as Double Kick. The change the stats and effects of Incineroar's specials.

Up Special - High Jump Kick
Down Special - Focus Energy
Side Special - Fire Punch

But his neutral special would be a chargeable projectile that changes the more it charges. Ember - Flame Thrower - Fire Blast

Final Smash would of course utilize his Mega Evolution.

Yeah, it's likely Mythra will have a seperate entry compared to Pyra. And IDK what the codename will be. I imagine it could be something like easy and well-known to something like an inside joke by the dev team lol.

IF, and i repeat, IF pass 2 isn't the end and all these executable slots are filled, who would you like to see fill said slots? Assuming Mythra takes up a separate exe slot and the last 2 of this pass give us 16, I've decided to divvy them up into 4 passes of 4 each, the last one being an echoes one if you so wish. include your dream last 2 for this pass as well.
