Do you guys think the next game will focus more on DLC?

Ultimate was already a significant step up from Smash 4 in terms of post-launch support but if Smash 6 has a lot of cuts (which, let's be honest, it will), I can see Nintendo promising DLC veterans as a way to reassure fans.

Okay, here me out: bring back the Smash Ballot, but it's meant to help decide the next game's DLC.

I'm on the final two EMMI and I still firmly believe that they would make awful Smash characters. What I want is them as stage hazards who constantly climb around a large stage and try to grab players, instantly killing them if they can't mash out fast enough

It's not the true EMMI experience unless you open the door and the damn things materialize out of nowhere just so they're right behind the door at the very moment you open it.

Depending on how many times I've died and tried to retry the EMMI sections my emotions vary from anxiety to "Please %$#@ off EMMI I just wanna progress." Maybe it's because I'm just primed for aggressive button mashing and not, as ADAM puts it, "accepting my own helplessness."

Okay, to be honest, I was mostly thinking of a sort of reverse Ultimate: base game is characters Nintendo wanted to add, DLC is fan requests to balance it out. Though it would all depend on how this next Ballot would even be handled...

What on earth would an EMMI even play like?

All they do is grab and insta kill. They use a few other abilities but I think I’ll have a panic attack if I ever see an EMMI use the Speedbooster again.

The Metroid Generals two seconds of screentime in the opening cutscene gave more moveset potential than the robots.

Honestly so far I'm enjoying the EMMI sections despite their occasional tedious nature. I just dealt with the yellow EMMI lol. Feel like I'm maybe half way through the game? Idk. I just saw a major cutscene and did a boss fight. I like not knowing just how much I have ahead of me. Dread in general is a ton of fun so far/

Anyway these are much better than the SA-X in Fusion. I played Fusion for the first time this year and honestly the SA-X was overhyped. Yeah it was stressful but it always felt super scripted (because it was). Not the icon of horror that people hype it up as, but then again I have to assume a lot of people played it as children and also in the 2000s. People were younger and more impressed by GBA AI.

1) Color Theory suggested last CP background was some kind of purple and Sora’s background was white, so the theory wasn’t correct.
2) Mute theory suggests that CP11 was going to be a mute character and also turned wrong as Sora has voice lines
3) There was also the speculation that final CP was from a new universe as there is a last spot left on music page. That turned out to be truth.
4) 4chan ”leaks” like Lol, PSO2 fighter, Mario Rapper, Reimu and such was all fake.
5) There are some individuals that don’t want to name here and on other forums that ended up being completely wrong. Other youtubers or such saying stuff like Waluigi or Ryu Hayabusa getting in and nothing happened.
6) The supposedly Crash document saying that the Bandicoot will come into smash was very likely fake.

Tbf a grappling moveset fits but like, it's not worth losing everything that makes EMMI memorable, the freaky movements, scary music and threat factor

Can you at least be consistent with being upset? The ballot gave us Nintendo characters and even characters so strongly associated with Nintendo, they were asked for back in the 64 and Melee days

Yeah but anyone who thinks any of the theories that predicated a perfect square/rectangle and ended up true weren't just coincidence haven't really been paying attention. I mean, look at the roster (non-stacked), look at the stage select, for god sakes.

Also the 40 name character list isn't curious, it listed forty characters. Of course some are going to line up. But it missed multiple others, it's clearly guesswork.

It’s also notable that there were a few characters that people figured did pretty well in the ballot that got in as Assist Trophies.

Waluigi and Lyn sure but Bomberman, Alucard, Krystal, and Isaac stand out as big names that weren’t quite big enough.

Another thing worth noting is that you're going to see popularity for some third-parties decline if they don't keep getting games. Crash, for one. I know that seems unfathomable right now but look at Rayman. Despite what that twitter account wants to tell you, he was more popular last time. Another one is probably Travis. Remember the next Smash is years away.

Now a lot of the series are big enough where that likely won't be an issue, but judging things based on the current landscape is only going to get you so far.

Bomberman isn't the only Assist with a Mii though. Takamaru, Ashley, Isaac, Akira, Knuckles, and Callie and Marie all have Miis, and Waluigi has a Mii hat.

Honestly I think the bulk of the reason is because they were all snuffed out early on, comparatively. They were all Assist-ed in 2018 and have been for three years now. I'm confident as time moves on they'll re-enter the greater public discourse more often.

I don't think old characters will be out the window, especially if they keep the Smash Ballot results for future games besides Ultimate. Not to mention the possible Out-there picks and whatnot. Some characters I don't think will get in until they've made another major re-appearance, like Lyn in a FE: Blazing Blade remake or Krystal in a new Star Fox game, but others, like Isaac, Ashley, Callie and Marie, Alucard, Bomberman, etc, I think are still quite possible. Waluigi I'm pretty sure is a guarantee for the next Smash. Or at least, I hope so......for the wrong reasons.

People will remember eventually. Takamaru, Lyn, and Krystal all had thriving threads from March 2018 until the E3 reveal where they were shown. Before the August presentation, Ashley straight up had one of the single most active threads here. And it took until the November presentation for Isaac and Skull Kid to die off. Those supporters don't just disappear forever (okay maybe barring Skull Kid because I swear the fluctuating support for him since like 2012 is the weirdest thing lol).

Honestly it'll probably happen shortly after Sora actually releases. That's my guess.

Those would be a good big 3 or 4 for a Pass 3 surely, but the fact is we have no clue what the landscape of speculation will be like 4-5 years from now.

I think Dante will be a pretty persistent, popular request, especially when the next game is announced. I see Assist Trophy upgrades getting the amount of support they typically do (Lyn, Isaac, Bomberman, Ashley, and Waluigi all immediately come to mind) as well. I don't think Geno will be as big because at this point his fanbase's taken so many hits over the last 3 speculation cycles, and this cycle was particularly disheartening and filled with drama for the Geno fanbase, so I don't see them regrouping as effectively as in the past. Doomslayer might stick around, but that depends on if the DOOM series continues and if Nintendo and Microsoft/Bethesda continue to have good relations. Crash will probably die down in popularity, especially if his series hits another major lull like it seems to be doing right now.

I think another thing to note is that the major requests will also depend on which veterans do or don't come back. If Sora doesn't come back he'll surely become another major request, as would Ridley or K. Rool or Snake or Wolf or Mega Man and so on. We also don't know the climate of third and first parties, so for all we know some Scrimblo Mcbimblio will come out of nowhere and capture everyone's hearts.

Essentially, there's far too many variables for us to accurately predict the landscape of Smash speculation and who popular requests will be come the next cycle.

The only leak that was true was the October 5th Sora music leak. That's literally it. It's no surprise that crack theories from the fandom and fake leaks ended up false. None of us know what actually goes on behind the scenes, so our foundation for speculation is theorizing is fundamentally flawed.

It's only now that we can realize that no one knew what they were talking about. Nothing surprising here at all. Hopefully people take this as a lesson to not trust such flimsy theories going forward.

I'm not a big rhythm game fan myself but I had a good time with Melody of Memory. It's a neat little game, even if you're not big into Kingdom Hearts.
