It wouldn't be a strong argument. It applies to how many games exactly? You COULD argue they saw how popular Persona 5 was, and decided to jump on it.
But he doesn't often state that a specific games specifically affected the creation of Smash. To my knowledge, the single two examples of this, are Persona and ...whichever of the two SNK games it was.Counterpoint, Sakurai likes a lot of video games.
You said that Final Fantasy had poor representation in Music, etc, and that this makes Sephiroth a missed shot. When did I mention anything about lackluster picks? That's just your own assumption
It's a 2nd chance precisely because it was planned for base game, but unfortunately couldn't make the cut. Time constraints and budget/copyright issues exist, especially when it comes to Square. Keep in mind FP2 wasn't planned at the time (Rex mii costume and base game spirits further add to this).
Mmm, the only one of my most wanteds that also has a Boss I'd want is Arthur. I think Astaroth would make a great Smash boss.Since we're talking about bosses, which boss could come alongside your most wanted?
Actually, the most iconic/recurring boss in DQ is Estark from DQ4.Hero's Classic final boss does reference the Dragonlord (DQ I's final boss), so there's that. Although if there might be a case for DQ3's / 11's Final Boss.
Just...a straight up better version of Dharkon.Oh gosh if Lavos from Chrono Trigger was a boss in Smash that would be amazing!
No, because fighter pass 1 and 2’s censorship only appears in the presentation itself, there is no reason to have “consistency” when pass 1 is irrelevant and isn’t being shown in presentations now and the censorship doesn’t actually appear on the Eshop or anything.Couldn’t that just be to have consistency with FP1?
I don’t know what is going on with Overwatch or Doom but Witcher 3 is irrelevant because Geralt didn’t start as a video game character(and probably can’t get spirits because of this). Then where are our The Witcher 3/Overwatch/No More Heroes 3/Doom spirits? To name a few examples. These games were also advertised at E3 or different Directs with a decent spotlight. I don't see the correlation between Resident Evil and SMT in this case, and if there was any correlation, it is definitely not exclusive to both RE and SMT.
I agree with your FFVII-Nocturne example, though obviously in a much smaller scale in SMT case. But while Nocturne HD could definitely get a spirit event, I don't think anyone would be surprised if it ended getting nothing in that regard.
NEO: TWEWY, No More Heroes 3 or SMTV are much safer bets for spirit content if you ask me.
1. I didn’t say Sakurai was lying, I was saying that Sakurai was giving reasons why he personally wanted Joker despite that being irrelevant whether he got in or not. Sakurai liking Persona 5 is literally the only reason we were given for Joker’s inclusion, and given the fact that Nintendo is the one that decides the characters, that reason is obviously bs.I really want Nahobino as the final character, and think they have a definite chance, but... What?
This'll probably be out of order, and I won't respond to everything, but:
Sakurai can't lie about who chose characters. Nintendo picked the dlc, and that's a fact. Sakurai might still have influence, but it's likely Nintendo just saw a popular JRPG that even had people who didn't typically like RPGs praising it, and decided to use it in Smash as a marketing move. They're really close with ATLUS, so it can't have been hard. (I'm still confused why we didn't get that much music though).
Joker didn't get a Sakurai Presents because they only exist out of necessity. They used up so much of their budget on Joker's presentation that they had to come up with something else for the other characters that wouldn't cost as much.
The M theory stuff could be because of Sephiroth. His presentation was age restricted on youtube, so that could have been because they couldn't name FF7 due to its age rating (the remake seems more likely to be the reason for this though).
Joker took so long to come out because he was the first dlc character, so their team had probably changed, and the way they developed the game had to adapt to suit making dlc. Joker was literally revealed as the game released, and Sakurai said that they would only start developing the dlc after the game released, so they had to develop all of the pack's content before they released him, which takes time. It's not like there's a massive conspiracy about Joker in Smash.
Finally, you just sound really arrogant. There's no way you can "destroy" any possible argument, because nobody can do that. There are always things going against a character, no matter how likely they seem. And as for being the "only person with an extensive case for why he has to be the final fighter"... Other people have come up with all of the evidence you've given, or at least the stuff that actually makes sense. And he doesn't have to be the final fighter. I love SMT, but I know that there are loads of characters who would make far more sense than Nahobino.
Quite a few because it's a common reason to get a character? It wouldn't be a strong argument. It applies to how many games exactly?
It's not willfully ignorant if the evidence presented isn't actually evidence. I mean sure, it proves that Sakurai likes, and was very much influenced by it in his creative endeavors, but it doesn't prove that the character was chosen specifically for him, or by him, especially since the latter argument directly contradicts a primary source.No- it was chosen because Sakurai loves it. He went out of his way to say that Brawl's interface wouldn't have been possible without Persona.
Yes, it could be a coincidence. However, choosing to ignore the more notable part of that information, seems willfully ignorant.
But, as I said, short of a Nintendo representative explicitly stating Nintendo themselves chose Persona, specifically, my reading of facts will continue to remain the logical choice.
The severity of Sakurai's connection to the series also isn't evidence that they were chosen because of it, because that would require him liking the series in the first place to be evidence of this. But he doesn't often state that a specific games specifically affected the creation of Smash. To my knowledge, the single two examples of this, are Persona and ...whichever of the two SNK games it was.
That’s still crazy to me that SNK had a crossover with WWE. It was weird enough seeing WWE wrestlers in Brawlhala. Is Smash next?Atlus are a long time Nintendo partner (SMT has a bunch of exclusives, Trauma Center has exclusives, Persona Q games are 3ds only and there's Etrian Odyssey as well as a SMT/FE "crossover" of sorts among other things) and Joker was their new breakout star, it writes itself here.
SNK are also a long time Nintendo partner, Terry is their main man and SNK were (and still are) shopping around all over the place for crossovers which now includes WWE, Tekken, Guilty Gear, Gintama, Seven Deadly Sins, a bunch of Chinese MOBAs, For Honor, FEXL, Million Arthur, Dead or Alive and plenty of others on top of Smash of course. Again, it writes itself. If Sakurai actually had his way we'd have gotten Iori instead too.
How do we know both passes won’t be shown later? Like as a celebration when the Final Ultimate Newcomer is revealed? No, because fighter pass 1 and 2’s censorship only appears in the presentation itself, there is no reason to have “consistency” when pass 1 is irrelevant and isn’t being shown in presentations now and the censorship doesn’t actually appear on the Eshop or anything.
that's nice to hear. I don't have any real intrest in Ultimate modding, I don't want to mess with my switch and my computer would probably try to melt if it tried emulating a switch, but I hope it becomes as well developed as Brawl modding is.Speaking of mods, I don’t know how many here follow the modding scene but it looks like they mostly fixed the one slot issue. I think the only problems now are with Pac Man and Steve.
You should probably throw Metal Face, Yellow Devil, and the Dark Emporor in there. The stage bosses aren't the most well done bosses in series history, but they should be there. You also forgot Petey Pirahna. So what would you guys think of a "True Arena" for Super Smash Bros.?
- Rayquaza
- Rathalos
- Dracula
- Galleom
- Ganon
- Giga Bowser
- Marx
- Ridley
- Duon
- Meta Ridley
- Porky
- Tabuu
- Galeem & Dharkon (phase 3 only, or at least, phase 1 and 3 only)
- Master Hand & Crazy Hand
- Master Core (Master Giant, Master Beast, Master Edges, Master Shadow, Master Fortress, & Master Core)
That’s the timeframe when we got the spirits. They at least wanted to link the release of those games with those spirits.Did RE get spirits because it's a highly influential and popular game series that went beyond gaming with a series of (awful) films?
No, it must be because some ports were revealed at E3.
...You also forgot Petey Pirahna.
I personally don't count Stage Bosses as actual bosses since they are more in line with other stage hazards in terms of design than actual boss battles. In fact I might even go as far as to say that they are simply glorified stage hazards. You should probably throw Metal Face, Yellow Devil, and the Dark Emporor in there. The stage bosses aren't the most well done bosses in series history, but they should be there.
Doesn’t this also apply to Kazuya since Harada requested Tekken be included?Requested by another developer(only Min Min applies here)
We got the spirits in Late November, a whole month after RE 5 and 6 released. That’s the timeframe when we got the spirits. They at least wanted to link the release of those games with those spirits.
Whenever I see the name Astaroth, I can only ever think of this guy:Mmm, the only one of my most wanteds that also has a Boss I'd want is Arthur. I think Astaroth would make a great Smash boss.
Hayabusa has Jaquio or The Demon. And Contra has a lot of bosses, but none that really interest me. And Kunio's bosses are all just dudes.
Actually, the most iconic/recurring boss in DQ is Estark from DQ4.
Just...a straight up better version of Dharkon.
Because the censorship only happens one presentation at a time and Europe’s laws changed to follow the US law during Pyra/Mythra presentation. How do we know both passes won’t be shown later? Like as a celebration when the Final Ultimate Newcomer is revealed?
How do we know they aren’t just using a template?
”Use this for the EU and this for the US”
I’m not opposed to the idea of an M Rated character, but acting as if its a 100% certainty is setting yourself up for failure.
Why does he look a Shao Khan wannabe
You know, I never made that connection before but he really does look like Shao Khan. Astaroth is a character from Soul Calibur and the main character I play in it.Why does he look a Shao Khan wannabe
Here's mine:Here's how I do it.
Just have rest rooms the way the Kirby games do Boss Rushes.25 bosses is... a lot, but if there's enough healing items i think it works.
That’s usually how we get spirits for new games. We got the spirits in Late November, a whole month after RE 5 and 6 released.
He looks more like a masked Kratos wannabeWhy does he look a Shao Khan wannabe
Oh my s***, he doesHe looks more like a masked Kratos wannabe
How does this disprove both passes being shown at the end and thus wanting consistency? FP1 would have to be updated when shown off and redesigning as early as possible makes sense.Because the censorship only happens one presentation at a time and Europe’s laws changed to follow the US law during Pyra/Mythra presentation.
That particular presentation is the one being tested by the ESRB at that moment and therefore when a M rated game is shown in that moment it has to be censored by Nintendo.
Tekken has?? I know FF has type 0. This is news to meHow does this disprove both passes being shown at the end and thus wanting consistency? FP1 would have to be updated when shown off and redesigning as early as possible makes sense.
And Tekken and Final Fantasy have had an M Rated game. How do we know the changes weren’t made for those series?
Tekken: Death by Degrees is M Rated. FFXVI has also been rated M.Tekken has?? I know FF has type 0. This is news to me
Never seen soo many fan made rules in my entire life as I have in this post and the last 3 you’ve made regarding M theoryBecause the censorship only happens one presentation at a time and Europe’s laws changed to follow the US law during Pyra/Mythra presentation.
When a presentation is going on that particular presentation is the one being tested by the ESRB at that moment and therefore when a M rated game is shown in that moment it has to be censored by Nintendo.
If Nintendo did a 3rd pass without any M rated game being represented in it it wouldn’t be censored.
Ah, yes; there was a side game starring Nina Williams called Death by Degrees.Tekken has?? I know FF has type 0. This is news to me
Death by Degrees is a spin-off if anythingTekken: Death by Degrees is M Rated. FFXVI has also been rated M.
Don’t forget tekken kombat unless that’s the same thing you’re on about. I don’t know much about teken but I swear there’s a crossover game with mortal kombat that’s M rated.Tekken: Death by Degrees is M Rated. FFXVI has also been rated M.
Spin off or not, its still a Tekken game. Its in the name.Death by Degrees is a spin-off if anything
and I just checked FFXVI’s site and it still says Rating Pending?
As much as I wish that were true, MK and Tekken have sadly never crossed over. Can’t find anything about a Tekken Kombat, perhaps it was fan game or ROM Hack?Don’t forget tekken kombat unless that’s the same thing you’re on about. I don’t know much about teken but I swear there’s a crossover game with mortal kombat that’s M rated.
Until it becomes official on the site I’m taking the FFXVI thing with a grain of saltSpin off or not, its still a Tekken game. Its in the name.
As for FFXVI, I’m not sure whats up with that. I just looked up “Final Fantasy M Rated” and this article popped up “FFXVI Is The First M Rated Mainline Entry“
The passes aren’t being shown together anymore. There is no reason to censor pass 2 for multiple presentations without showing pass 1 just to maintain consistency when there is nothing to be consistent about. How does this disprove both passes being shown at the end and thus wanting consistency?
And Tekken and Final Fantasy have had an M Rated game. How do we know the changes weren’t made for those series?
Look man you can't keep making **** like this up, it's freaking embarrassing when you cite millions of people and nobody else even knows what you're talking about. At best you saw some YouTube comments and misconstrued them for something bigger than it is.The reason why millions of Nintendo fans think SMT is a Persona clone
More than fair, the article says it was looking at the PEGI rating, if the site is US the rating may still be pending over here.Until it becomes official on the site I’m taking the FFXVI thing with a grain of salt
it’s likely to happen tho
How do you know the passes won’t be shown together later? The passes aren’t being shown together anymore. There is no reason to censor pass 2 for multiple presentations without showing pass 1 just to maintain consistency when there is nothing to be consistent about.
Tekken has never been rated M in the US and Final Fantasy Type-0 HD is just one port of a spin off that has nothing to do with Final Fantasy VII(and obviously FF16 doesn’t exist yet).
First... yes, he can. To believe this isn't even possible is just denying reality. However, I think you're going along the lines of, "he wouldn't." It is fine for you to feel this way- but personally, I find it very naive. A large portion of my job is public relations, which mixes heavily with marketing. The image is going to be painted to get the effect that a company wants. This is damn nearly always an absolute, with very few exceptions.Sakurai can't lie about who chose characters.
No, Sakurai stating exactly two times that a series influenced Smash Bros, and those exact two- relatively random, for any other purpose- series have characters which make it into the game. This could be considered to be without correlation. However, since we are bringing up this idea of evidence: in a court of law, it would be considered Analogical Evidence, Character Evidence, and to some extent, statistical evidence. Or, in other words: "The Slothful Induction FallacyQuite a few because it's a common reason to get a character?
It's not willfully ignorant if the evidence presented isn't actually evidence. I mean sure, it proves that Sakurai likes, and was very much influenced by it in his creative endeavors, but it doesn't prove that the character was chosen specifically for him, or by him, especially since the latter argument directly contradicts a primary source.
The severity of Sakurai's connection to the series also isn't evidence that they were chosen because of it, because that would require him liking the series in the first place to be evidence of this.
Hey, do you know what is the meaning behind this "clone" thing. I dont think I have ever heard someone refer to a game as a "clone".The reason why millions of Nintendo fans think SMT is a Persona clone is solely because there was no Sakurai Presents for Joker to explain what Persona is and how it came from SMT.
Millions is actually low balling it, it is more like tens of millions.Look man you can't keep making **** like this up, it's freaking embarrassing when you cite millions of people and nobody else even knows what you're talking about. At best you saw some YouTube comments and misconstrued them for something bigger than it is.
