Speaking of; regardless of your opinions of Bad Box Art Mega Man, the devs didn't mean it out of spite. He was moreso a victim of timing.
Oh, I don't really doubt it. Mega was clearly meant to be a joke pick, but my issue is that the idea behind Pac makes more sense than the concept for Mega imo.

God I hope the game does well, Square doesn't seem to remember they're supposed to market it and for some reason I haven't seen anyone talk about the anime since it started despite knowing a ton of TWEWY fans
They didn't promote Balan Wonderworld either, though I guess that one was understandable. Still, can't help but wonder why they suddenly don't like promotion...

Yeah Square has barely marketed NEO. It has never appeared in Directs, which is also strange.
From what I've played of the demo I like it a lot, very promising game.

Infinite Azure / Tekken 7's main theme Solitude are also safe guesses: Tekken 7 has become the defining Tekken game, not just because it has had an unrivaled competitive lifespan (it's up to 6 EVOs when the other Tekken games couldn't get to 3) and not just because it's still seeing new content but also since it's AFAIK the best-selling game to date.
Tekken has sold like 7 million as we know, Tekken 3 and 5 did more than 8, with 3 being the best selling game of the series with 8,5 million of copies.
But yeah Tekken 7 could become the #1. Kazuya's inclusion in Smash will surely help to that.

The only one who can save us from thirst is Pepsiman, with a refreshing can of delicious soda.

1990」のアイデア 370 件【2021】 | 90年代, 映画 ポスター, オリーブ 雑誌
I'll say it like I did once
If he was 3rd party, I'd ironically advocate for Pepsiman and then proceed to get hype af when he "happened"

For clarifications y'all, he is 4th party because he started out as a commercial character used in Japanese Pepsi commercials. His first game came around 1.5 years after his commercials first aired

Some of my meme picks are Goku, Spongebob, Shrek, Pepsiman, and Johnny Test. The latter two because of this fan/parody game:

I'm gutted that this game wasn't even at E3. This is the long-awaited sequel to a super cult classic that has notoriously had difficulty finding an audience. It looks so fun and has the potential to grab an enormous audience, and so many niche games are historically able to find that audience just by appearing at E3. It's irreplaceable advertising that can sometimes make or break a game.

Skipping out on that could be devastating to NEO's sales. I could completely see SE taking the wrong lesson from that and just killing the franchise...again...

Are we talking semi realistic options? So a third Bandai Namco character (Agumon), an old Zelda baddie (Vaati), another Xenoblade rep (Team Lora), and other such unlikely picks are off the table?

I would love to see Smash Bros cover something new from video game history. Fighters, Platformers, and RPGs have had their fill. Nintendo home-consoles, Arcades, and PlayStation are well covered. Retreading the same ground is less exciting...

LET'S TRY:

Robo-Puppy --- Nintendogs+Cats
Master Chief --- Halo
Doom-Guy --- Doom
Arle --- PuyoPuyo
Zergling --- Star Craft
Phoenix Wright --- Ace Attorney
Yeah, I was hoping this pass would bring a decent amount of new genres. But so far It’s only Sandbox with Minecraft.

If we were somehow blessed with a third pass that’s focused on adding new genres to Smash, I’d go:

Master Chief (First Person Shooter)
Jill Valentine (Horror)
Axel Stone (Beat ‘Em Up)
Junko & Monokuma (Visual Novel)
Chorus Kids (Rhythm)
Waluigi (Sports & Party)

Waluigi’s default skin would be his tennis outfit from Mario Tennis Aces, like how Wario’s default is the Wario Ware outfit.

Maybe swap out Junko for World of Warcraft’s Lich King (MMOs) if Danganronpa is too mature.

Wouldn’t a Danganronpa rep be considered Horror, Visual Novel, Rhythm and First Person Shooter all at once?

I mean, not really? Haven't played Danganronpa yet so maybe I'm missing something but I feel that would be kinda like saying Metroid reps shooters or Zelda and Fire Emblem are repping musou games.

Honestly it just often feels like Square just doesn't have much interest in going the extra mile for releases on Nintendo. The Switch version of Balan was one of the worst multi-plats on the system, there's been no attempt to get any sort of Tomb Raider or Kingdom Hearts content on the console (other than one rhythm spin-off) and even the easiest slam dunk of the classic Final Fantasy titles on Switch has been passed over in favor of a mobile and PC release despite all of them originating on the NES/SNES. I'm convinced the only reason Collection of Mana got on the system (and is an exclusive to boot) is because Nintendo still had the source code for Trials and SE didn't.

I'm not expecting Final Fantasy 15 or KH III on it, but given the effort Capcom and others have put in, its striking how half assed the support from Square Enix often feels like.

Ya know what I'd love, but I kinda doubt they'd do it?

Kazuya's classic mode ending to just be dead-ass a one on one with Mii Brawler in the Heihachi outfit.

But they seem adverse to using DLC Mii outfits in anything unless you've already bought them, which makes sense.
Also IIRC, none of the DLC characters appear in any of the Classic Mode Routes in general (maybe there's one who appears in their own route?).

EDIT: Hero, Byleth, Min Min, and Steve (as Enderman) all appear in their own routes, but no DLC character appears in anyone else's.

I had expectations of 20-30 tekken tracks. Both Street Fighter and Fatal Fury/KOF have 36 (other 14 are from SNK universe are from its other games like Art of Fighting, Samurai Shodown, Alpha Mission, Metal Slug and Athena)

I imagine 3-4 tracks per game (only mainline games) , not including remixes. If anyone is interested, tekken osts are in spotify.

Hero, Byleth and Terry all appear in their own routes iirc, but yeah, they seem to avoid it when possible.
I just checked, and so do Min Min and Steve, so it happens quite a lot. They don't appear in each other's routes though so they are definitely avoiding a scenario in which you have to fight a character you don't own. Also, Min Min fights herself instead of a Ninjara Mii or something so they're avoiding using Mii Costumes that you may or may not own as well.

Which means that the Heihachi stand-in will be Incineroar or Ganondorf or something and not a Heihachi Mii. Maybe the Mii will come into play for the Spirit Battle since there's already a precedent for that (but they've literally done it once despite having more opportunities to do it so just...maybe).

I'm sure ZenythSmash ZenythSmash can confirm this. But Verge has had 3 Smash sources to my recollection, but He's only kept one. I see no reason to assume this is any different of a person, especially since the PM pictured is a Reply, making Verge the one who reached out to the responder.
He does lol, Main Source #1 and Main Source #2 are pretty inactive. Especially MS1 distancing himself after the whole **** up that happened back in early 2019.
Speaking of, me and Mr. Main Source #3 are out of the loop on Vergeben's reddit posts. MS3 wasn't even around to verify any rumors he shared and, as usual, Vergeben didn't even check back when messaged. We we also making some theories over what he put out and why, like what NWPlayer123 talked about on the day of the E3 direct.

Unless he was merely referring to his time with a Smash community, opposed to going in detail about Metroid V (Dread), I suggest to take those Smash rumors with a grain of salt!

If we were somehow blessed with a third pass that’s focused on adding new genres to Smash, I’d go:
Gotta be honest, if we get a third party then, for me, that increases the odds of getting a Bandai Namco back a healthy amount - and if its dedicated to adding new genres then my hopes for Agumon or Mametchi jump back up.

The following are not a list of my faves, not a list of the most likely, but a rather a selection of characters who - after research and consideration - feel the most right for each of the genres that I currently feel might just have the most to add.

AgumonDigimonV-Pet
An offshoot of the other huge V-Pet Tamagotchi with one key alteration; fighting is fundamentally within their nature. Agumon has a lot of spin-offs to help flesh out their moveset.
ArlePuyo PuyoPuzzle
Technically Doctor Mario is already in the game, but as an echo he doesn't really represent his genre all that well. Arle has a lot of spin-offs to help flesh out her moveset.
Mamoru EndōInazuma ElevenSports
Even though I don't see the appeal of soccer games, I know of a lot of folk who (despite not liking sports, or growing up in Gaelic Football areas) love them. Endō packs some super-power into his soccer abilities and I must admit his nature as a goal-keeper seems like a great set-up for a unique style of edge-gaurding. Also, its about time Level 5 got someone.
ReimuTouhou ProjectBullet Hell
Bullet Hell seems like it might be an interesting basis for a character. Seems like the genre would probably lend itself to creating an amusing anti-zoner. Reimu has a lot of spin-offs to help flesh out her moveset.
Miu HinasakiFatal FrameHorror
The girl from Fatal Frame who the current Assist Trophy was actually searching for. Amusingly that sets up a creepy and disturbed parody for Pyra/Mythra's reveal trailer. That just seems like a lot of fun. Their style of weaponry is very different from most video-game protagonists which moves them further away from being 'action-horror' aesthetically.
ArisaShadowverseCard Game
Gonna be honest, I had to google a bit to come out with this one. Seems to be the biggest all-digital original-property card-game I could find. The genre seems like it could make for a very interesting, different, and fresh Smash Bros character. I also just find the genre kind of fascinating and routinely get tempted to try making my own before getting intimidated by how over-complicated I immediately get tempted to make it.

Honestly had to fight off the temptation to have Master Chief or Doom Guy because while I feel like they're very good picks, I recognise that Splatoon and Metroid Prime have both Competitive Shooter and First-Person Shooter covered, so its LESS urgent on that front BUT also extremely warranted for a variety of other reasons.

I'm playing the demo right now. I went from avoiding fights because I didn't understand how the attacks worked to actively going into battles because I'm having fun doing them. If I end up getting this game this would be the first the world ends with you I have played

So here's a fun thought experiment to do.

Smash Bros games are usually pretty good at giving returning franchises new content. In particular, the far majority of franchises get new music every game, barring retros sometimes. There are only so many times you can remix the Ice Climber soundtrack, for example.

Still, some non-retro franchises didn't get ANY new music in the transition from Smash 4 to Ultimate. NOTE: I'm including anything with an emblem that isn't a hardware stage. So stage only franchises count. These franchises include...

Kid Icarus
Punch Out!!
Bayonetta
Balloon Fight

On top of that, some franchises got new tracks, but no new remixes. These franchises include...

Star Fox
Sonic

What music tracks or remixes would you add to help these franchises out?

To steer away from fisting...

What are some tracks you expect Kazuya to bring, and how many tracks will he bring?
Mentioned it before, but I think Tekken could bring quite a lot of music. Since Namco works directly in Smash, it shouldn't be too hard to get, and has more to offer on the whole than Pac-Man in terms of its tracks. Though I'm not sure they'll go full SNK have 50 songs, I think around 20 isn't too much of a stretch.

Anyway, some Tekken songs I'd like. Aside from Emotionless Passion, Kazuya's Tekken 2 theme we already heard in the trailer to at least have the arcade version and new remix. PS1 version might not be a stretch either. Doubt we'll get them all, but I think the selection of music will lean a little closer to 20 something tracks, than the 50 something that KOF/SNK got with Terry. But if we got 50 Tekken tracks I won't complain since it's some of the best FG OSTs. I think the only tracks I'm not a fan of are the Heavy EDM ones from recent games.

Yeah, it's a lot of T3, but that game's GOAT'D so you'll have to deal with that.

Honestly they could put every Sonic music track in a big hat, pull out any song and (provided its not from the Chronicle or Sonic 4 OST's) you'll basically have gold. In terms of more specific categories, every Knuckles rap song, more from Unleashed, more from Colors, and to hell with it, all the other songs from Sonic R.

Sonic, I'd say Ice Cap Zone, Mushroom Hill, Rail Canyon, Pumpkin Hill, something from the Advance series. Would mind a straight port of Knuckles' Mirage Saloon.

Punch-Out could use the Super Punch Out fighting song, both original and a remix. The vs Mode from Punch-Out Wii and the Title Defense theme.

I would add Game & Watch to the first list since the Game & Watch Gallery exists. I know the series is based on the systems themselves, but there really shouldn't be a stage with just two songs on it.

I honestly just wish Bayonetta could get it's lyrical themes. I get why it must be such a headache but that doesn't stop me wanting them.

What is a genre you don't hear people float as warranting a Smash Bros rep?
This MIGHT answer your question, but here are some that I can think of:
  • Tower Defense
  • Racing (:ultfalcon:'s by himself and I don't like it : ( )

- Simulation

- Hack n Slash (outside of Dante)

- Western RPG

- Idle games

- Flash games

- Mobile games

I'm aware these latter 3 aren't genres, but I wanted to throw them in there ; D
