As well as that League of Legends rumor, in the event that Kazuya's Mii costume wave includes a Premium Hollow Knight Mii Swordfighter costume with a remix of Sealed Vessel. But even if a Hollow Knight Mii costume does come, that is not a guarantee that CP11 is going to be a League of Legends rep.
To be fair Sakurai did consider Rex so the community would have been right on the nail if it weren't for technical limitations.

While there are already a ton of Super Mario songs and Spirits, you can still add a bunch of tracks themed after the spin-offs since those are the only games he appears in. In fact, the most famous area associated with him is a Mario Kart track. Generation 8 has no stage or music, and only...what? 5 of the 400 Pokémon are Spirits? There would be 0 struggle for content for a Generation 8 Pokémon. The two are highly unlikely for other reasons, but not this.
Honestly I don't think CERO is going to stop them from adding a character because of their outfit unless it was avaunt guard levels of risque. Even Mai was probably a case of "it wasn't worth bothering for a background character" than a "she's too lewd to add period".
To be honest I'd be pleasantly surprised if anyone outside the SmashBoards bubble is even aware of Falcom... And so anyone added would be slammed by the "I don't know so I don't like/anime bad" stigma, Adol especially. I've just resigned to the fact Adol would be largely regarded as "Red Marth/Roy 2."

Considering that a Sony character is not seen as likely in general, combined with the fact that historically the last character has always been a smaller pick, this would probably be the biggest curveball in Smash history.

With no disrespect to Yokai Watch (I hope it manages to survive somehow), I'm pretty sure a chunk of the Digimon fandom would go on a killing spree if Bandai Namco made the game where Pokémon had its first crossover with another multimedia mon-genre franchise AND it was 'the new kid'.
And if we’re taking the Sakurai Presents at face value, so did Nintendo until the mechanic fell through.
When you were meant to be part of a duo fighter but due to technical difficulties you get cut while only your partner gets to be part of Smash.
I think that would make a lot of people shut up about console wars.
Mmh, yeah it depends. For what it’s worth, Gen 8 Pokémon doesn’t have a stage or music and only a barebones amount of Spirits, so there’s definitely a challenger pack to be made for it. Especially if you factor in additions like the Aegis after we got a good amount of Spirits and other content from Xenoblade 2 in the base game and Min Min with a handful of Spirits and Mii Costumes as well. The release date of the SwSh Spirits is a bit more alarming than base game of course, but that’s a story for another time and honestly the gap between a possible Three Houses Spirit Event and Byleth was a good deal shorter than the SwSh to CP11 pipeline. (Did we ever get Spirits for the SwSh DLC? If not, that’d also be a notable enough absence in both content and evented release dates)
It still seems unlikely to me this late into the DLC lineup. Unlike FE, new generations of Pokemon are base game priority and not really DLC focused. Considering how Nintendo's basically moved on to the Gen 4 remakes, it seems that the window of promotional relevance has ended.
I don't want a gen 8 Pokemon myself, but we've never seen overlap between a new Pokemon generation being released and Smash DLC. You can't just default to it being 100% out.
Unfortunate for Rex fans for sure. Can't say I'm not ecstatic over what we got though.
Rex died, but instead of adding something that they could properly represent, they continued on with Xenoblade Chronicles 2 anyway.
