Please tell me this is a copypasta and not an unironic post.
don't get what the problem is. You can turn it into one if you want, I guess. The one green hill I'm dying on is Classic Sonic and Tails being a super interesting concept. Classic Sonic would take a lot of inspiration from CD, Generations, and Mania, and having Classic Tails as extra help and a recovery move would be neat and make it more than just having Classic Sonic. Also, it would represent the most solid part of the series better and what actually got Sonic into Smash in the first place. It would also give Modern Sonic the opportunity to take more elements from his Modern incarnation instead of adopting so many Classic things.

Shadow as a Ken-style echo is the only thing that makes him feel more likely personally so I'd be super cool with the idea.

I'd also prefer to have Eggman as a large and in charge Boss character personally with the Death Egg Robot or a mix of many of his contraptions. But this is all just my opinion.

Understandable. Sega really needs to get it's act together when it comes to the Mainline 3d Sonic games

When it comes to other media, I think Sega does a great job, though I think part of that is that Sega usually lends to the I.P out to people who know what they are doing with Sonic. Sonic team seems to be a big issue ever since alot of the talented people who worked on Previous Sonic games like Unleashed and Generations left to go work for Nintendo

For Sonic Rangers, I heard they got new hires for the Newly dubbed Sonic studio, So while they may be a problem since they are new, perhaps it's also a good think to take risk and see if these new cats can make Sonic really work, and I hope they aren't gonna spend 3 years making a New engine

In any case, How I look at it is that while Sonic might be struggling in the 3D Game department, He's doing well in all other aspects of the medium, plus he still has a legacy of Amazing characters and Amazing games that still keeps Sonic unstoppable for Generations, but I understand your sentiment nonetheless
That's very fair.

When I think of Sonic relating to Smash, I mainly think of the games because that's what Smash thinks of. But I get what you mean.

I have to say, even if this new Rangers game completely fails. I have to say I am proud of Sonic Team and SEGA for seemingly really trying this time if the leaks are real. Forces really felt like a game where nobody tried or cared from the execs to the designers. It ain't a big deal, but yeah. I'm actually at least happy it does feel like they're really trying this time. I was happy to see the teaser say 2022 because it means they're taking their time to do something big. A five-year gap for a Sonic game is nothing to scoff at. Even Sonic and Knuckles to Sonic Adventure was 4 years.

Didn’t realize how many big franchises have their anniversary this year. Or it just feels that way.

Watch next week we get a GTA rep as our next character.
Oh you know I'm down for that! Even if most find it unlikely. Love the moveset potential they have!

Oh and even though it doesn't really ever pan out like this for Smash speculation, GTA is in a relevant streak right now. GTA III's anniversary is being teased with having fun surprises and GTA V's new next-gen versions are coming out in late 2021. Maybe a Switch port too for III and V like LA Noire did when it got a re-release and they're waiting for the Switch pro announcement??

While we're talking about anniversaries, I'd like to remind you that it is the...
  • 55th anniversary of Ultra Q and Ultraman
  • 50th anniversary of Ultraman Jack
  • 25th anniversary of Ultraman Tiga
  • 20th anniversary of Ultraman Cosmos
  • 15th anniversary of Ultraman Mebius
  • 5th anniversary of Ultraman Orb
None of these guys came from games but I stopped giving a %$#@ a while ago so unprompted Ultraposting go

Oh and Grand Theft Auto III's 20th anniversary! Basically when the genre-defining series truly started in a way.

Weird... so man big deal titles in 2001.

Yo dude, I'm going to assume you're a big enough GTA fan and follower to ask you this, but have FREQUENT rumors of GTA 3 hitting the Switch been swirling around? I heard this once and got kinda hype; I've always wanted to play a GTA game that isn't GTA 5 (funny cuz I dont even own Gta 5 myself I just got the chance to play it on my friend's PS5)

Well, while we're at it I guess I should acknowledge that it's Puyo Puyo's 30th anniversary this year too.

Not that it means anything for Smash - although I hope there's more to come elsewhere. I'd really like a proper localization / rerelease of Sun and ~N.

It makes sense 2001 had so many new series. It was when that console generation really started to hit the ground running.

Crash Bandicoot
Dante
King Boo
Master Chief
Phoenix Wright
Ryu Hayabusa

Any other takers?
Super Monkey Ball as well. AiAi is now all but confirmed

Oh boy, I guess I was right about the website ID stuff being held onto if they ever needed it for a tournament.

The current tournament ID, with the fire stuff come from a skipped ID from January 2020.
Yup.
A whole year and half.

The only ID tourney that got skipped that is left is from September 2020 that still hasn't been filled.
Considering the reason they delayed the tourney was to add the DLC characters, if we could somehow figure out what the tourney was for, than we'd actually have a solid lead on who one of the Last 2 Fighters are

In terms of what I think the Missing tourney could have Been, I think it likely might have been the 2010's tourney

The other Era tourneys have already happened when this particular tourney was skipped, and FP2 already has 3 fighters that originated from the 2010's, with possibly at least one more to come

The other Options I was thinking was a Swordfighter Tourney, or a Woman's tourney. I don't think it's the Swordfighter tourney since I actually imagine that to be a DLC specific character tourney. The DLC Tourneys are typically more specific to the fighter, whether it be their character traits or moveset qualities, and I think 2010's era tourney is too broad and unspecific to be someone's DLC Tourney.

Women's tourney could work better as a standalone tourney like with 2010's. I will say though that noticing how many of the FP2 fighters are women is much easier than noticing what year their games came from and how it relates to other fighters, or which characters have Fire Special moves, So I Imagine the Tourney makers would know to save the women tourney from when all the women from FP2 are added, so that wouldn't be delayed

People still think it means something?

Nintendo's always had a very strong anti-mod stance, so the moment Legacy XP became the go-to modpack to download, it was doomed to be taken down by the Big N eventually without any reason required since Smash is their IP and therefore they can do whatever they want, similarly to what happened with Project M and what I imagine Project+ will eventually face.

tl;dr Nintendo took it down because they could. It's literally that simple.

I think the reason people think it means something (Including me) is that while Nintendo can just take down mods, they usually take down mods for a reason

A2MR, Pokemon Uranium, Mario Bros Battle Royale, etc were taken down, and then there happen to be games from Nintendo themselves that matched some of the concepts (I'm not sure on Pokemon Uranium, but we got Metroid 2 remake after A2MR takedown, and Super Mario Bros. 35 when Battle royale was taken down)

I also think Papagenos added to this also. This evidence he had, he seemed to have taken really seriously considering he never mentioned it in a video for the fear of the Source's Sake. The fact that it lines up with Legacy XP, and that Papa 100% Believed this evidence was for Smash Ultimate DLC does make people point in that direction

This is more of people looking at instances relevant for theory-crafting in isolation, disregarding all the times Nintendo takes something down that has no bearing on speculation, which happens all the time.

Everybody was focused on Nintendo taking down Beware the Forest Mushrooms on one channel, but no one talked about how they took down an entire OoT playlist, because it wasn't relevant to speculation. People were focused on Golden Sun getting a new trademark, but no one focused on how dozens of other new trademarks for countless other dormant series were also filed by Nintendo that year. These examples become much less significant when you look at the full picture, and not just the parts the narrative hinges on.

Music being taken down rarely has led to anything of note beyond copyrights.

Mods slightly have shown to mean something when taken down.

But in both cases, they aren't notable anyway. It doesn't mean they can't be, but it doesn't happen often enough to worry about, imo.

Ya know they could pull a Castlevania with GTA

Simon's the OG, and the most iconic Belmont, and he's the original, with Richter being a very popular Belmont and a representation of Castlevania's latter half of its history.

Now to GTA:
CJ or Claude could be our Simon. While they're not the first protagonists for sure of the series, they both are from, essentially the older half of the series, and CJ is arguably the series' most iconic character.

Someone like Franklin from GTAV could be your Richter; he's the most recent GTA protagonist, and he's gotten significant recognition. You can say the same thing for Michael and Trevor to an extent imo, but Franklin seems to me like the main of the three. After all, he's the one that "decides" on Paths A, B, and C in the story.

CJ as your original fighter, Franklin as the echo
Maybe just throw in different idle animations, and final smashes, and then call it a day.

The only thing these takedowns or whatever indicate is that we're in a time where Nintendo is hoarding all of its IPs into the safety shelter of Cease & Desist.

If you had to put money on who the last two characters are in this Smash Fighter Pass, who would you put it on? So not who do you want, but who do you think will come? For me Demi Fiend, for the other one... I kinda lean towards Crash. But it's hard predicting with that few spots left.

While I would rather have Shadow than Classic Sonic and Tails, I would be fine with the pair. I also think that the duo was more likely after the success of Generations and Mania, but man, yeah, Forces hurt.

As much as I want Chief in Smash, more Sonic content has been something I have craved. I am looking forward to Sonic Colors Ultimate, as I never had a chance to play through it. Right now, Sonic Prime and the IDW Sonic comic has been getting me through until "Sonic Rangers" appears.

I someone put a gun to my head and told me to predict the last two characters I’d be dead.

I’ve gotten it wrong each time, and I’m sure I’ll get it wrong again.

But if I had to hazard a guess. A lower key third party, and a first party promo pick. Not even gonna bother with specific characters.

CP 10 is a big E3 Reveal. I wrote an 8 page essay on why I would bet on Crash.

CP11 is harder, here are a few characters it can be.
-Demi Fiend
-SMT V Protag
-Arle
-Quote
-Falcom
--Estelle
--Rean
--Adol
-Monokuma
-Laharl

Essentially, I think CP 11 is going to be someone smaller. Unless we get a double reveal at E3 but I doubt that. Also in my essay I laid out why I would not bet on Capcom, Konami, Namco, or Ubisoft. Also I doubt double dips are super likely.

I've learned over the past few years I can't predict. I see all this buzz for Crash & a new Zelda character, therefore it's probably going to be 2 completely unrelated unexpected choices like Akuma from Street Fighter & Susie from Planet Robobot.

Zelda and the next fighter likely be shown in the E3 presentation is highly suspicious though. So I'll go and predict that's just exactly what's gonna happen.

why do you think namco isn’t getting a character ?
Long story short, Mii Costumes. This cuphead interview gives us a good idea on how long things may take for Miis to be licensed out. Since they were not under NDA yet, we can guess that the negotiations for Mii costumes are relatively short. This leads to a problem when we have Miis Byleth onward. The negotiations for a character would have been done or finished up at that point. FP2 was finished in terms of negotiations and planning in November of 2019. That leaves us with wondering why they did not just wait to put their miis with a character from their owner, like Sonic miis with Joker or Geno with Sephiroth. It to me looks like they would not be getting a character given the info we have on how long it takes to license a Mii.

Hard to say. Of course, we can guess these three obvious scenarios.

1. Character that was highly requested
2. Character that some or most didn't see coming
Nothing here for this one

3. A character that not a lot of people wanted

Maybe it's because Smash Ultimate is ongoing and therefore, any Brawl mod that gets to be hugely popular could potentially lead to competition?

They also definitely don't always need a reason to take down modded content, just look at Mankalor's channel getting so many copyright strikes, some of them being absolutely strange such as live footage of his real life face with no gameplay footage whatsoeever being claimed.

I wish I was joking about that claim, btw. Sure, they eventually removed it because it was stupid, but for some time, they really had the audacity to claim they owned not the modded IP, but the modder himself.

Those handling the copyright stuff at Nintendo really isn't as cunning as you'd think when you find out they make goofs like that.
