I can definitely attest to that. I’m a big fan of Kingdom Hearts, Xenoblade 2, and Tales of Symphonia but I’ve never particularly cared for Sora, Rex, or Lloyd as characters. Xemnas, Nia, and Sheena on the other hand, I would be totally down for. I really loved all three characters and I think they would be a ton of fun in Smash. Unfortunately they would likely never be chosen over the main characters of their games (or Pyra/Mythra in Xenoblade’s case).

Pretty much the same can be said for Chrono Trigger. I like Crono more than Sora, Rex, and Lloyd, but being a silent protagonist and another swordsman, I think any other character from Chrono Trigger would be more interesting. Magus is my number one most wanted character but he’s sadly in the same boat as Xemnas, Nia, and Sheena.
There are only 3 cases that I can think of right now where the protagonist of a game is also my favourite character, and unfortunately none of them are in Smash at the moment :(

Cloud gets pretty close at least... and also they added Min Min out of the entire ARMS cast so maybe I shouldn't complain too much lol

The only examples I can think of are Velvet Crowe, Squall Leonhart, and Lightning. Berseria has a great cast in general so that one is pretty close for me. Rinoa, Irvine, Snow, and Fang come pretty close to Squall and Lightning.

Chorus Kids remain the one character originally listed by Gematsu in 2013/2014 that isn't playable in Smash.
Wonder if Chorus Kids missed their time and won't have a stronger chance in the future. kinda like geno

Nah not like Geno. Geno actually has a support group.

I think it might be because the gimmick Sakurai had in mind was too complex, so he scrapped them.
I can't really think of anything that would be. I doubt the other kids would be AI driven like the Ice Climbers, and I don't think complexity itself would be an issue considering the incredibly complicated characters we do have...

Maybe they couldn't make three characters blasting off at the same time when only one of them got hit look good. That was my biggest issue with the pick anyways.

Doesn't Popo/Nana and Luma just vanish when the other is KO'd? I think something like that would be applied to Chorus Kids.

I think the Chorus Kids were just not considered high priority this time around, especially if there was struggle putting them in last time. Kinda like Dixie missed her boat (and is still absent) when the tagteam with Diddy didn't work out.

Though maybe this whole "second chance" thing could benefit Chorus Kids. I wish, they could be super unique, but Rhythm Heaven has been kinda dormant.

I was talking about them being three characters acting as 1 unit. Like, if they weren't any different from Mario or Link.

Now that I think about it, I'm not sure why I'm assuming they'd be like that. Some type of Ice Climbers gimmick would make more sense. If they were supposed to be Ice Climbers on sterroids, then it makes sense that they were dropped pretty quickly since it just wouldn't work on the 3Ds.

Weren't there leftover files pertaining to them in Smash 4 though? I vaguely remember people discovering an unused series symbol for Rhythm Heaven during datamining...

Unless we get a new game or two before the next Smash, I’d say their chance is gone. I’ve actually never heard of that series before Smash & I’ve never seen anyone talk about it outside of Smash either.

I actually first heard of Rhythm Heaven from TF2 parodies. I always assumed it was just another community fad, I didn’t learn that it was its own franchise until much later.
So other than that, honestly, I’d consider it a pretty minor franchise. Another take from Hell, I know..

Unless Rhythm Heaven does a complete 180, I don't see the franchise getting a character. Sakurai was considering adding Chorus Kids when the franchise was doing decent enough, but now it seems like Nintendo has lost most of their interest in the series.

Ironically, the series may have done a lot better if it were added in Smash, similarly to how Shulk made more people aware of Xenoblade.

How is your most wanted going to save the day from Galeem and Dharkon's forces in the next DLC trailer, DLC Speculation Discussion Volume II thread? :nifty:
By coming in after having finished farming and having his / her inventory filled with ridicolously powerful items. Sure, by that point the bad ending's probably happened, but Dota 2 does allow for some absurd solo carries...

Good thing that we're talking a DLC trailer where the character never dies (BylethDoesn'tCount!). Otherwise the Dota 2 character would be in danger of dropping the Divine Rapier (Biggest damage boost in the game by a country mile, drops onto the ground when the owner dies and can be picked up by the opponents. Allies can rescue it, but only use it themselves after an enemy's picked the item up - otherwise the original owner's the only one on his / her team that can use it).

Doesn't Popo/Nana and Luma just vanish when the other is KO'd? I think something like that would be applied to Chorus Kids.

Yes, both the partner Climber and Luma do vanish when the other is KO'd - once the KO counts that is. If the lead is in the middle of a star / screen KO the partner can still act and even potentially KO the opponent, which has happened on occassion.

Yeah, I'd put them among the likes of Isaac, Chibi Robo, the Elite Beat Agents, Saki Amamiya, Jill from Drill Dozer, anyone from Advance Wars or Custom Robo, and every other fun mid-2000s franchise whose heyday is now behind them, especially with nothing new on the horizon. They would've been base roster picks if anything, methinks.

Hey, as someone who has desperately wanted Lyn since the Brawl days and got a whopping six other, more modern FE reps instead, trust me, I feel your pain...

They don't, since:
Waluigi would side with them lmao.
Dixie Kong would be obliterated.
How would Ruby scale again?
Yeah Kris is Screwed lmao.
Brittany also gets obliterated.

I always wonder what would've happened if we got The Last Story or Pandora's Tower in Smash instead of Xenoblade Chronicles. Granted, Xenoblade was always the most popular of the three, but it gets me thinking, y'know?

I have... no idea. We haven't had any major shakeups since Ryu Hayabusa was deconfirmed. I will say, though, that E3 will be the make or break moment for a LOT of characters...
I really have no clue either and I honestly prefer it that way. Most of the most popularly speculated characters would be fine but none of them would really excite me personally. I like being surprised so I hope it ends up being a character that is overlooked. Bonus points if it happens to be a character I really want.

So what's current speculation?
Nothing. Kinda ran out of speculation due to things like the Ryu Hyabusa deconfirmation (mostly; some are still holding to the conspiracy theory that they're just lying about waiting for an invite continuously) and other leaks slowly disproven over time (like the Doomguy proof via Cacomallo hat leak).

Give it another couple of weeks. As soon as we hit early May, like the first week, we should get some leaks/rumors that'll be fun to read. They'll probably all point to E3 Direct leaks and such. Obviously fake, but always fun to read and usually stokes the fires of speculation.

Then, if we're lucky, we'll get a teaser/announcement of a reveal during the 2nd or 3rd week of May.

It's not really a conspiracy theory. The statement was made intentionally vague so it wouldn't actually be a lie if he was in the game. Combine that with the fact that it was repeated verbatim, and I really don't think it can be considered a disconfirmation. They might just be being coy about it.

My uncle works at Nintendo and he told me that the Battletoads and Magus from Chrono Trigger are the next two DLC characters. It’s true because it’s in italics.

please start wanting these characters now
Couldn't care less about Battletoads....and an Optional, borderline secret playable Character from Chrono Trigger would probably not be the first pick.....

That said, I'd absolutely love for Magus to playable. Scythe character and specializes in Dark Magic? Yes Please.

Wouldn’t You Like To Know?
Except it did. Diamond Armor Swordfighter is just A Steve in diamond gear. And he worked fine.

Would it have been AS good a representation? No. But to be honest, the way he actually ended up playing is TOO good a representation, to the point where he's practically incompatible with the way Smash is normally meant to be played.

If I was gonna play a Minecraft character in Smash, I'd much rather play the Diamond Armor Swordfighter. Because Steve's actual moveset is just awful to play as...despite being "a good representation".
Except its not. The diamond armor isn’t Steve in Diamond Armor, its just Diamond Armor for Miis. Its an extra representation because Armor was too hard to work in for Steve. It works well because it came with Steve. Now, I actually think Diamond Armor would be fine, it’d represent some of Minecrafts most well known items. Its just that Steve specifically as a mii would suck.

If this was also the Creeper Mii sure, I’d say it’d be fine representation. Not ideal, but fine. Steve just doesn’t do it. All the inclusion of Steve would get is the ability to say you have Minecraft Content in the game. Not actually getting anything in the game that is meaningful to Minecraft.

I actually like Steves Moveset, It provides a great interaction of playing around his finite resources before punishing him when hes out. Screw his normals though. I hate getting laddered by like eight jabs.

Sounds a lot like a certain someone from one of my favorite franchises, only she’s a valley girl and a surprisingly devout and insightful Buddhist. Probably the polar opposite of Magus (I’ve never played Chrono Trigger, so I have no say in knowing what he’s actually like).

Instructions unclear, starts rooting for Ezio and Waluigi because they're from 🇮🇹 . :4pacman:

Nah but seriously, wouldn't mind either of them honestly. Even if they're not likely in the slightest both would be fun to play as.

I don't think either would appear in my most wanted's trailer, except maybe in the background?

I could see the trailer opening on the Pirate Ship stage, with Wendy Koopa commanding a group of dark-possessed characters to collect the ship's treasure and gather it around above deck. We start up at a higher angle, near the crow's nest, where we see the faint silhouette of a small furry animal watching the scene unfold.

Then we cut to Wendy, doing her best "OH-HO-HO!" laugh a la Tron Bonne as her minions do her dirty work.

We pan down to see Toon Link, who's sneaking aboard the ship to stop Wendy. One of the possessed notices him, though, and points at him while yelling to Wendy. His yells are cut short by one of Toon's bombs, and the fight begins: Town Link vs two possessed fighters and Wendy.

While Toon takes down the possessed fairly quickly, Wendy's arsenal begins to overwhelm him.

We cut back to the small animal up top, who swiftly leaps into the air and begins descending down.

Wendy's Clown Car grabs Toon Link with its extendo-arm and draws him close, with Wendy raising her wand above him, ready to strike.

But her victory is cut short by a monkey's shriek! Wendy looks up into the air and squings her eyes in the harsh sunlight. From her POV, we see the silhouette of a small monkey about to land on top of her before...POOF, a large puff of smoke, and suddenly the monkey has transformed into an elephant!

The elephant stomps down onto Wendy's head, comically flattening her, destroying the Clown Car, and freeing Toon Link.

As Toon regains his composure, he looks up at the elephant, which we can now see has big, expressive eyes and long lashes.

BAM, another huge puff of smoke!

From the smoke, we see quick glimpses at pointed red shoes, large golden bracelets, an impossibly long purple ponytail, and finally a pair of big blue eyes. This stranger shouts "I'm ret-2-go!" before whipping her hair at the screen, followed by the most satisfying splash page I could dare hope for at this point:

Magus would be fantastic, He is the best possible scenario for a Chrono Trigger rep.

The Battletoads would be a bit lame though.

People really jumped the bandwagon on Eggman after Sephiroth's reveal. Not saying he won't happen but with only two slots left I don't see his chances being very good as I don't think they're gonna double-dip on two villains.

With that said though I'd love for him as he'd be very fun and interesting to play, we definitely could use another mech user.
