I just took notice of this, tbh. That's actually the one funny part of the Chun Leak that I kinda doubt, since it sounds more like the OP is just assuming things, but I'd find hilarious if true.
If anything, according to the leak, Square is more or less confused and nervous about Geno's fanbase being soo vocal and they feel like their intentions are actually not genuine in the slightest, so like, if that's the case then that is the biggest of big oofs.
I think the logic is that Square doesn't want people to say one of their characters and go "Hey that's the dude from Smash!" Though there are examples of joke suggestions becoming very popular, like the demand for Magneton in Pokken and Kirby Battle Royale's poll having Sleep Kirby as the winner so I guess it's not unprecedented?I just took notice of this, tbh.
Honestly? If true, it's one of the most nonsensical takes I've ever seen from a video game company. Anyone who takes 2 seconds to read through fan demand for "dead" characters would know that 9 times out of 10 it's directly linked with people wishing for a comeback.
And "dubious of their intentions"? Why should they care in the first place? SE is a company, they would still get their money from Nintendo at the end of the day lol.
It's not like they're even using Geno for anything, so it makes no sense for them to worry about him being seen as a "Smash character". Reads like a bizarre excuse, tbh.
Honestly all we need to do when that happens is point out how boring it is when those people just spew the same 'unique' characters over and over again. Like with "Stop talking about Dante/Crash/Master Chief/Doomguy/ Whatever I don't like!", those people never seem to complain when their favourites are often discussedMaybe a hot take, but I fear that if we keep talking about this leak daily, people are going to get real pissy about it sooner or later like they always tend to do when a leak lives for a considerable amount of time.
....granted, not like we got a whole lot to talk about right now, and not like we can realistically prove/disprove this leak until the next character sooooo.......
Yeah but that's what he is already and I bet you many will only recognize the more obscure hero alts as "the guy from smash" most likely Sakurai just didn't want to put an irrelevant side character in the game.I think the logic is that Square doesn't want people to say one of their characters and go "Hey that's the dude from Smash!" Yeah, Geno's only really recognized as 'that dude people want in Smash'. Dragon Quest has a huge ass legacy behind it and the most obscure Hero alt, being Solo from DQ4, still had their game sell 1 million on launch day back in 1990. My guess is that Geno's simply too low on thw priority list as Sakurai clearly liked Geno and put as much love into that costume showcase as with any other MiiYeah but that's what he is already and I bet you many will only recognize the more obscure hero alts as "the guy from smash" most likely Sakurai just didn't want to put an irrelevant side character in the game.
sincerely, a disgruntled geno fan.

How will they fill dlc contents though? I think SF is pretty much well covered as right now. Correct me if I'm wrong. No, not really. She, along like Samus and Lara Croft, is a pioneer for women in gaming. If Smash is slowly morphing into a gaming all-star, Chun makes perfect sense.
SF2 is well covered. SF3, 4 and 5 have basically nothing. How will they fill dlc contents though? I think SF is pretty much well covered as right now. Correct me if I'm wrong.
Mate, the last guy who replied to you told you to click the link that was above your post. Can someone tell me where this leak lol? everyone is talking about it yet I haven't even seen it
He said he wanted to make Geno playable and while he may or may not have changed that mindset, it shows Geno was in serious consideration at one point. He cared back then.one interview doesn't exactly paint the picture of really liking someone
Yes. Yes it is.Is life no longer worth living if you can't play Rathalos' theme on Hanenbow?
I mean, aside from like a small, small handful of Spirits and a couple of Ryu and Ken's moves, pretty much every piece of Street Fighter content pulls exclusively from 2.I have a hard time believing Chun-li would get in the same pass as Min Min (aka Chun-li but with range and unique stuff lol).
I wouldn't mind it but considering the amount of content Street Fighter already has in Smash Ultimate base game I hardly think there's more to add right now...
Tales of is in a completely different position though, no content in Smash ultimate whatsoever so It's pretty likely to appear through dlc......though still just expecting Lloyd's mii costume to come back, if I'm not mistaken every dlc mii costume from Smash 4 has pretty much returned now and the only missing ones are the Hunters from MH and Lloyd, and I personally see that as a bad sign for both characters, for they'll probably come back in the upcoming dlc packs (also I'd rather have KOS-MOS than Lloyd but that's just my opinion lmao)
I see... still, it looks like Chun-Li is different case from Sephiroth. Way too much competition within Capcom. And the competitors will bring more contents. Even if Monster Hunter outfits return, that's not guarantee that she will be the fighter with those outfits coming together.SF2 is well covered. SF3, 4 and 5 have basically nothing.
Hell, if they do do Chun, I imagine that they'd pull from SF3. Ken is very much inspired by how he looks in SF3, and Sakurai loves to reference one of, if not the most, famous scene in all of fighting games period, which happened in SF3.
All the SF music in Smash is SF2, none of it from 3, and SF3 has a whopping 2 spirits to its name.
And that's why is speculation. Nothing's confirmed until it's confirmed, but there's no harm in speculating.I see... still, it looks like Chun-Li is different case from Sephiroth. Way too much competition within Capcom. And the competitors will bring more contents. Even if Monster Hunter outfits return, that's not guarantee that she will be the fighter with those outfits coming together.

Mii costume =/= loves character and really wants him to be playableHe said he wanted to make Geno playable and while he may or may not have changed that mindset, it shows Geno was in serious consideration at one point. He cared back then.
He got a Mii Costume for Geno in Smash 4, with DLC Mii Costumes being a consolation prize because the character in question couldn't happen for whatever reason, including K.Rool, Heihachi and Lloyd, the third party ones being notable because they needed to be licensed out. Sakurai cared about Geno then.
For the base game, Ultimate got Geno and Mallow spirits and Geno's even an online icon you can use in arenas, which isn't the case with every Spirit, meaning they managed to negotiate for the artwork and rights to use the character. He cared about Geno then.
Just a few days ago, the Mii Costume got polished up and was put in a montage referencing enemies Geno could fight in SMRPG while getting the license to Geno and the song once more, with as much love as every other Mii Costume. This not only suggests the Geno costume did well enough to warrant bringing back if Geno couldn't be playable again, but it also suggests Sakurai still cares.
TODAY HE REFERENCED SUPER MARIO RPG'S BONUS BOSS WHILE USING GENO INSTEAD OF PEACH MEANING HE STILL ****ING CARES ABOUT GENO.
I swear, it's like some people want their fanbase to be seen as entitled by screaming when they get non playable content
We have a whopping 2 Spirits from SF3, and SF3 is 'that game which pretty much cut every character and gave an entirely new cast'. Coupled with a potential SF3 representation in general via Chun and her stage and she'll be fine. One thing that bugs me about the Chun-Leak is... well, what Spirits would she bring?
Base game already has a solid representation Spirit-wise, so I'm confused as to how her Spirit Board would be since we already have every SF2 character ever as well as some people from Alpha, III and even someone from IV.
Ballot leaker said:The leak summary:
Dragon Quest hero is happening. In-game material already went outside of the dev team.
He heard Minecraft but not Steve's name.
No one knows the details about DLC but not from already represented titles.
However some informations imply ceratain characters.
Someone from Tales, most likely Velvet. Lloyd and Yuri are probably Mii costumes.
Nakoruru from SNK and Resident Evil rep from Capcom. But the credibility for these are lower than Tales one.
No info for DLC second season.
And ballot part:
Ballot's intermediate result was leaked soon after it begun. So it's not the final result but he heard the ranking was almost fixed from the start.
The ballot was for the next Smash from the beginning not for Sm4sh DLC. Talks about Smash for Switch was there reletively early. The actual planning started just before the end of Sma4sh DLC.
Inkling, Snake, and Ice Climbers were the top 3. Then the other fired characters, Sora, K.Rool, Phoenix Wright, Bomberman, Chrom, Beyonetta, and Ridley followed.
Pokemon, Final Fantasy, and Dragon Quest were with them if you add up all the related votes.
Then the leaker listed others that stood out in the ballot. Apparently he had a note for this.
Now, it's obvious that this leak it's highly suspicious since it's highly unlikely that some rando on the internet would know the result of the Smash ballot, plus this undoubtedly didn't have very accurate information regarding the DLC since none of the characters from the rumor mill that he heard got in (at least for now). And the bit about no one from already represented titles is just plain wrong.Ballot leaker said:From Post 70:
Actually, Sora was a candidate.
When they did the poll, he was popular as K. Rool and one of the top tiers.
If you don't count Snake in, the top 3 third party characters were Sora, Bomberman, and Phoenix Wright and they were more popular than Beyonetta in general.
However, he was out before serious planning starts, they never brought the idea of including him to SE nor Disney. This story was already known back in those days.
I'm sure there were reasons for that, but the most I heard was that they thought Sora's inclusion would become fetters.
"Everyone is here" was already a thing for new smash and Nintendo wanted to Smash brand to be more as third party crossovers thanks to the success of Sm4sh DLC.
They were skeptical and worried about collaborating Disney with a lot of conditions, so even Sora managed to get in, because of that, other future characters inclusion could be limited.
Sora not joining smash is a famous story. It's more strange to me that there is no single rumor about Phoenix Wright.
From Post 71(not the leaker):
Still only rumors about Velvet, Nakoruru, and RE rep?
From Post 72:
Surprised you know that.
But those are not trustworthy enough personally to be honest.
If those level of rumors count, there are Ezio, Chrono, Amaterasu and Layton rumors too.
Velvet is little noteworthy than others but still most info about her are only small circumstantial evidences.
Only Yuusha from DQ is the certain one.
From Post 73:
Oh, and, Doom Marine lol.
I found about the 2chan(5chan) leak later but this name started to pop up this year so I'm sure this is fake.
I heard Ryu Hayabusa only once from someone not really deep inside so this is not it too I think.
The ones I posted above are all coming from last year, but in reality Joker's name was never floating around so rumors are nothing.
I heard someone from the company under Sega but it was very vague and that source also told me Smash Run is returning so yeah.
This is my thought process too, everything that the leaker had got right was already leaked by credible leakers such as Vergeben. The more I think about it, the more I start to think neither Tales nor MH is getting a character.
I think a lot of us are putting too much stock in these missing Mii costumes. Up until Chicobo, none of the costumes were from the same franchise as the character at the time. Maybe it's a little weird that Lloyd and MH are still missing, but people said the same thing about Heihachi and Geno. Somebody's gotta be last after all; not every absence will have an explanation.
Just give me Poison and we’re gucciOne thing that bugs me about the Chun-Leak is... well, what Spirits would she bring?

I mean, my opinion is we're not getting Monster Hunter, but it doesn't have anything to do with the Mii costumes being upgraded or not.The more I think about it, the more I start to think neither Tales nor MH is getting a character.

And most of that SF3 cast never really showed up in a game again because I recall the idea of cutting all but four characters being pretty divisive among casuals. Plus, I don't really think most people would pop off for a Remy or Twelve Spirit. We have a whopping 2 Spirits from SF3, and SF3 is 'that game which pretty much cut every character and gave an entirely new cast'. Coupled with a potential SF3 representation in general via Chun and her stage and she'll be fine.
Do people pop off at Spirits in general? Were people really jonesing for that Warframe spirit event? If Chun Li represents SF3, which she probably would just for the sake of variety since SF2 is basically covered, she'd probably get SF3 spirits. And most of that SF3 cast never really showed up in a game again because I recall the idea of cutting all but four characters being pretty divisive among casuals. Still a good point to bring up SF3, but at the same time it just feels odd to me.
If Sakurai truly didn't care about a character then literally none of the things I mentioned would have happened. My point is that he does care even if the character ended up not being playable. Claiming that if Sakurai doesn't care about any character just because he didn't make them playable for whatever reason, which in Geno's case, was implied to be because either Square or Nintendo said no, is objectively speaking, entitled. Making multiple posts saying he doesn't care about your most wanted character is entitled. Literally what part of me saying Sakurai gave Geno fans fanservice is 'delusional'? The guy adores video games and gives damn near every character, big or small, a ridiculous amount of love whether it's something as big as having a signature move referenced or something as small as a glitch or graphical effect used in 1 of the character's 11+ games. I strongly dislike Geno but I'd truly be delusional if I claimed Sakurai didn't careMii costume =/= loves character and really wants him to be playable
And in what way am I "screaming" I don't care as much as as long as its fun to play as, of course id be happy seeing Geno as Mario rpg was one of the first games I played but at the end of the day if Sakurai gives the choice the go ahead, I respect that and respect him. I feel like were arguing past each other I just think Sakurai isn't obsessed with Geno as a square rep while you seem to think I believe he doesn't care about him whatsoever, people as delusional as you are why I left the Geno boards. "Why are you so into the speculation scene?" you might ask the truth is while many would like to see their childhood games 64 truly was my childhood. So in the end if the day I'm just hoping we get Geno, another Kirby rep or even a LOL rep but not expecting it.
Were people really jonesing for that Warframe spirit event?
Would still be weird for a SF2 character, with potentially the Alpha alt because of course, to represent SF3.If Chun Li represents SF3, which she probably would just for the sake of variety since SF2 is basically covered, she'd probably get SF3 spirits.
No. Stop. Halt. Don't give me hope that one of my favourite protags actually has a real shot.Hey, since we're bringing back a 5ch leak from the early days of DLC speculation, why not take another gander at the "Ballot result rumor"?
A translation of the leak was posted by A Ayumi Tachibana in the old speculation thread almost two years ago
And the bit about no one from already represented titles is just plain wrong.
With that being said, some of the bits are fascinating, mainly the fact that the Tales of rumor about Velvet being the fighter and Lloyd and yuri being Mii Costumes.
Plus it's curious that the characters that were rumored and that he mentioned here would end up having some kind of role later, with Resi receiving a Spirit Event and Nakoruru receiving a Mii Costume and being featured in Terry's trailer.
He also mentioned that apparently, Marvel characters received a ton of votes in the ballot, which I found curious because months later Sakurai would mention Iron man alongside Goku as non-video game characters that are requested a lot.
And of course, this is another repeat of the Sora story, though since this leaked was posted months after the Seven Square leaks and the Chun leak it's possible that he was just piggybacking off those ones.
Again, while this leak has some interesting parts, I'll be the first one to admit that it's very, VERY shaky. But like I said, another look at it just for fun wouldn't many any harm, right?
There's also the fact that we don't have a single mii costume from some other 3rd party series like Metal Gear, Bayonetta and Castlevania, and nobody thinks of it as particularly odd.The more I think about it, the more I start to think neither Tales nor MH is getting a character.

Base game Ultimate had no third-party costumes, period. So no, it doesn't feel particularly odd because they only started showing up with DLC to begin with,There's also the fact that we don't have a single mii costume from some other 3rd party series like Metal Gear, Bayonetta and Castlevania, and nobody thinks of it as particularly odd.
