When I say stuff is cheating, I'm not actually serious. Something my home-server on TF2 has learnt a while ago LOL.
What I mean is that I dislike the idea of a hydra. It throws any and all pre-conceived notions out of the window since you don't even know who you're playing (I'm pretty sure people don't sign their posts every post). You can argue that that's great because it's not what mafia should be about, but everyone already has the little bit of meta on me (if they played me before), hydras not having that gives them somewhat of an advantage that I dislike.

Really? It's cheating to take away out of the game information that still applies regardless of your opinion on the matter? Then there's the fact that even if a hydra is another slot, then you treat it as a new player and establish a new meta.
As far is it dragging down players, that ONLY applies when they play as two units instead of one. I've played games that sucked *** because I didn't have communication with my partner when I thought I would. The reason EE called NB4 on Rad Fic is because it works. When Swiss and I keep up with the game together it does make you more threatening.

Depends. If someone says "that was the other guy" and the other guy actually gets on and responds then I have no issue.

The point of a hydra is to have two players filling one playerslot. They're effectively one new player rather than two separate ones. Obviously you can't meta them. :v
But you shouldn't solely rely so much on meta. It's not a bad thing to have at all, as it can save you some dumb mislynches, but it shouldn't be the deciding factor for whether or not you lynch a person, especially for guys like Mentos or EE who can effectively repeat their town meta as scum. There's more than one way to skin a cat.

I tend to have an issue with it because they're supposed to act as one brainset and it's a passable excuse despite the fact that it shouldn't even be excused at all. It's one playerslot, you shouldn't be treating it like two.

no but seriously, hydraing's not as easy as you think. it's not so much good players underperforming as it is you have two separate minds trying to act as one and that usually doesn't work unless you have two players that have very similar playstyles or mindsets.
i've hydra'd with asidoh, ryker, stew, soup, and kuz. that last one didn't count because we didn't really play time travelers. i've spent enough games yelling at soup to know that i'm not hydraing with him again because we approach the game far too differently, hence our common arguments in games. stew and asidoh were alright, but they rarely made their own posts either from inactivity or they just kept deferring to me and my faulty scumdar. i defer to ryker far too much albeit when we play together, but we either have the exact same reads or entirely different reads depending on the game. AM works, to an extent, but it's not radfic.
so, yes, hydraing is not as simple as "OH I LIKE YOU LET'S HYDRA." :| I haven't really found anyone that fits my playstyle outside of maybe (maybe) Gorf.

I've only ever really hydra'd with Ryker so I can't judge too much, especially because I tend to rely on Ryker a lot. I need to get more confidence in post-making, but I'm seeing progress.

No but for real id like that. The only three ive ever hydrad with are swiss (trash) and kuz (garbage). The only one who i felt good hydraing with was smargz, and now shes long gone LOL. But hydraings pretty cool stuff when its done right.
