Lol, I went to finals against Don in GG, not Nite. Got too close to beating him too, even if he was sandbagging.
Ferdi edit: Why not run a tourney without C3 as a test? Every single time we get taken over and by we I mean you guys who's supposed to be directors but really isn't and for some reason gets part of the venue split. Laptop and bracket is covered I know Steve/Tony has one, venue is covered if we can get Steve's place, 100$ for the venue that fits 100 people is like 1$ per person. I'd say we just make venue fee like 2$-5$ and there you go. If we can't get it I'll look into my venues. Note the importance of housing IN the venue, how long we can stay, as well as how close it is to people's houses. Obviously you guys would rather bump it up cause you care more about money. I'd suggest that we get an approximation of how many people are going and base the venue fee on that. There's nothing people hate more than venue fees unless they're cheap, and by that I mean 5$ or less.
The only problem that we have that C3 can take care of is the publicity, but I mean cmon, everyone needs to start chipping in, printing out them flyers, and advertising. I know its hard considering gamestop and stuff only allows for counter space. So find out creative ways to do it, signs are good, thats how most garage sales get people, post it on everything(internet wise), staple it places, etc.
Equipment wise I know we can get quite a few by itself, Wiis and GCNs are covered, TVs are the big deal here, so I went and looked at RAC, but all they had are flatscreens which are probably overpriced. Where does Greg get his rentals?
The problem with SBR is that they have no idea how to play. I highly highly doubt we'd get ***** OOS because of one stage. If you realize that a counterpick has a walkoff, PLAY DDD! Not hard to CG in this game. If you realize you're playing on Skyworld, know the reasons we banned it, big stage for techs, screws recoveries, go Snake or MK. Actually, just go Snake/MK OOS. Spamming and camping and winning, get a ban on these 2 ****ers ASAP.
Ferdi, the money I got from it barely covered driving to advertise, printing up my own flyers, and getting over to meet with Greg to get his set of flyers later on. Before you go accusing me about being all about the money, you should at least pay attention to how much **** and time I have to invest in this, especially when working with Greg. I had to listen to a conference call that extended well past the hour two days ago, just to make sure I knew what was happening with Smash. Turns out they just talked about plans for Madden and security the whole time. =/
I took on this position because I didn't want Lance taking it over. He's the one that keeps messing up our brackets, and he takes a HUGE chunk of venue.
Also, if I wanted money, I'd just play Snake and host tournaments at CCA the whole time, without telling anyone. Srsly, easy **** there.
Oh, if we really want to invest in making non-NVGA/C3 tournaments good, there's a thrift store off of Mississippi and Sable. We could pick up a bunch of okay TVs there, if we wanted, but we'd have to chip in a kind of community fund. We could also use them to further the GG scene, really.
Stop being so confrontational. It's not like you've offered to help with running tournaments before. I even remember asking you on several occasions, and you just kinda ditched out.
I think that the biggest problem with NVGA/C3 is that DFG thinks we're EVO, when we aren't pulling the numbers and prestige that they are. If we want venue fees lower, I need EVERYONE to start *****ing to him about it. When it's only me and Don arguing with him, and he has Lance saying that it's fine as is, Greg is a lot more likely to stick to his original plan. If it seems like the whole smash scene is about to go up in flames, and he's going to lose a lot of profit, he's a lot more likely to listen.
So, again, talk to Greg about the venue fees. It'd be nice to have some support on this, as Don and I have tried to contest it before. Greg's a cool guy, but he's a bit headstrong. Lance is just kinda... meh. He's cool when he's not near our tournaments.
Anyway, I digress. What stages should we playtest, and which ones should we just say "wtfban"? I agree with the notion of Skyworld.
EDIT: Igneous, dustloop explains the basics and advanced stuff.
