What this does:
Doing this will swap the character portrait at the bottom of the selection screen to a different character. Also, the Stock Character Icon at the bottom of the screen while in-game will change to the character in the portrait. The actual character you selected will always remain the same.

How to do it:
1)Pick a character then deselect it.
2)Hold the Player Token above any of the 1sts and hit "Y".
3)Hit L+R+START
4)Go back to the screen you were just at.
5)Your character should now have one of the firsts
in the character portrait at the bottom of the screen
This works with ALL versions of NTSC.
This also works on PAL version.
It works on both languages.
All characters can do this with the exception of the 1sts.
NOTE:
- The character you select to play (not the portrait) will always be the default colour
- If a character has both a 1st and a 2nd then two people can do this with the same character and both be the default colour of that character
- The player farthest away from Player 1 has the most priority when doing this trick. So, 4>3>2>1 when using the same character
- You can also do this trick by holding the token over any 2nd.
- This will NOT work in "Team Battle."
- Hitting "Y" ONCE will switch the portrait to a 2nd if your character has one.
Otherwise, it will switch back to your original character.
- If you held the Player Token above a 2nd you cannot switch to a 1st.
- Hitting "X" or "Y" after hitting "Y" once will return the portrait to the original character.
- Hitting "X" will ALWAYS return the portrait to the original character.
- ALL 1sts have no character to switch to
- ALL 2nds have only 1 character to switch to and that is one of the 1sts
- ALL characters that are 1sts and 2nds will be the same colour listed above when you switch to them.
You can't switch to any other colour.
This colour is always the first one to the "Y" side of the colour choices
except for when Koopa (Bowser) changes where he can switch to Green Kirby
ex.: If you hit "Y" when selecting Peach she will turn green
ex.: If you hit "Y" when selecting Kirby he will turn white
etc.
