MW2 on mobile phones...

This is the worst news I've heard for the game since I learned that there wasn't co-op for the campaign mode. However, I do hope it turns out decent. I've never even heard of Glu until now.

I guess I should include mobile phones as one of the systems. Wow this idea fails. -.-

I really don't see why the campaign won't have co-op. Halo 3 had it and even Treyarch implemented co-op campaign into WaW and that was the first game in the CoD series to feature co-op in campaign. Next thing you know, Infinity Ward will tell us that there won't be a "theatre" mode (ala Halo 3) in multiplayer. I was also disappointing that the special forces mode will only be 2 players, I assumed it'd be 4 players (a squad) but no...

I'm sorely disappointed with the alleged 'no dismemberment,' no four player co op Special ops? Cool, cool. No co op for campaign? It's like WAW>MW2. Everything is a step back, what the ****?

I'm sure the MP won't disappoint but frankly I'm getting bored of Cod MP in general...

If there is a mobile phone version but not a wii one, I will be annoyed to say the least.

Of course, I already have The Conduit and an Xbox 360, so even if there was a wii version I could very well opt for the 360 one, but still. If you can play it on a phone you should be able to play it on a wii.

If they put MW2 on mobile phone and NOT on Wii, this will be a HUGE slap in the face for Wii owners. For some reason, I can see Infinity Ward deciding not to put it on Wii. I am angry.

Modern Warfare 2 may not have dropped the "Call of Duty" title after all...

http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/09/modern-warfare-2-box-art-includes-call-of-duty/
http://kotaku.com/5311207/****-just-got-real

Fourzerotwo's latest Tweet : "Just recieved the first Modern Warfare 2 boxes straight off the press. "**** just got real." #MW2 http://yfrog.com/5hia1nj 48 minutes ago"

http://img197.yfrog.com/i/ia1n.jpg/

UPDATE : Modern Warfare 2 has been renamed back to "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2".

http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/09/activision-modern-warfare-2-was-always-ready-for-the-call-of-d/

http://kotaku.com/5311315/activision-renames-modern-warfare-2-again-slaps-call-of-duty-on-the-box

Activison said : "Infinity Ward's Modern Warfare 2 is the direct sequel to Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare," a spokesperson told Kotaku. "We have focused our attention on Modern Warfare in order to most effectively communicate the fact that this is the first true sequel in the Call of Duty series. Infinity Ward, the original creators of the Call of Duty franchise, has said from the beginning Modern Warfare 2 resides in the Call of Duty universe. This is reflected in the title's package."

This is probably the result of Modern Warfare 2's lower brand awareness due to the lack of the "Call of Duty" title. Most people probably didn't know that this was a direct sequel to COD4...

http://kotaku.com/5302292/modern-warfare-2-brand-awareness-hit-by-call-of-duty-drop

Darn, now I have to go back to calling it by it's long game title name...

*BUMP*

Fourzerotwo's latest tweet (http://twitter.com/fourzerotwo) :

"http://bit.ly/I0LWX - Modern Warfare 2 Prestige Edition unboxing video is now live!"

The unboxing of the "Prestige Edition" : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FMSS12iY1X0

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will come in 3 different editions : Regular, "Hardened" and "Prestige".

The prestige edition will include the exclusive art book "Behind The Lines", a special Steelbook case, and a token that allows you to download the original Call of Duty from Xbox Live Arcade or the PlayStation Network. There's also a sculpted "Soap" McTavish head, for storing your night vision goggles when not in use.

There has been no official word on the prices for the 3 different versions. There is speculation that the original will cost $60 while the hardened edition will cost $80 and the prestige edition will cost $150 (Someone called their local Gamestop and they told them these prices, again these are UNOFFICIAL!!!!)

http://kotaku.com/5313929/modern-warfare-2s-ridiculous-prestige-edition-unboxed

http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/13/modern-warfare-2-prestige-edition-includes-working-night-vision/

EDIT : The "hardened" edition will cost $80

Fourzerotwo's latest Tweet : "Yes. The token to download the original Call of Duty on XBLA or PSN will be in the Hardened & Prestige Editions. Hardened is $80"

EDIT 2 : The "prestige" edition has been confirmed to be retailed at $150 (InfinityWard's Twitter : http://twitter.com/InfinityWard)

IW's latest Tweet : "A to some of your Q's - Prestige Edition suggested retail is $149 & yes, the COD Classic on XBLA & PSN does have full MP"

I'm only going to buy the regular edition because $150 for a video game is WAY too expensive and besides, you will probably only use the night vision goggles a few times then it'll collect dust next to your Halo 3 Master Chief cat helmet.

*BUMP* (again)

Modern Warfare 2 is having it's own controller!

FourZeroTwo's latest Tweet (http://www.fourzerotwo.com/) :

"In a design meeting for a #MW2 controller. Need your advice - Concave or Convex grips for the Analog sticks? Whats your preference and why?"

Also, there have been reports of Modern Warfare 2 being released/bundled (like other games such as GTA IV) with a 1 month Xbox LIVE trial card. (every version : Regular, Hardened and the Prestige edition) *

* = Unofficial, will edit this post if it is confirmed or denied.

Despite the many mistakes/faults that I'm seeing, I'll probably still be buying this.

Holy Crap custom Killstreaks? That's freaking awesome. All we need now is custom characters and Modern Warfare 2 is set for GoTY 09
I'm not sure if small Multiplayer things like that are enough to merit GoTY, and MW2 has a LOT of competition this year; in fact, it was pretty much E3's motto that "X Game will be available this Fall."

Custom Killstreaks are petty neat, but did you see how many kills the guy needed for the AC-130? 11 killstreak doesn't exactly happen every match. I just hope they keep 3 kills for Radar, and then have the 5, 7, and apparently 11 open to anything equal to an airstike, Heli, or AC-130.

And I hope they have some of the original maps in MW2.

Hopefully they will release a "Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare Classic Map Pack" when MW2 comes out. And for free. I don't want IW turning into Bungie and making you pay for map packs where they're not all new and one of them is a remake.

I like that idea of custom kill streaks. We all understood it right? I wonder what they'll have as an alternate for the UAV.

Particle effects and the dirt kicking up in the air was proof enough that they've somehow managed to raise the bar for graphics.

With all the MW2 hype and the domain name for modern warfare 3 already taken

This : http://www.destructoid.com/gamers-claim-modern-warfare-4-site-blackmail-infinity-ward-141811.phtml
totally like happened.

Some people REALLY like MW. And I guess they should.

P.S. Sorry if this isn't closely related to MW2 but I wasn't going to open a thread for this -_-
Domain squatting won't work. Infinity Ward can easily get that domain name.

EDIT : Modern Warfare 2 Will Render at 600p (Unofficial, not confirmed by Infinity Ward)

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=369620

"Infinity Ward once again justifies a sub-HD video game during a high definition console era with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.

The resolution, which is 1024 by 600 pixels, has been confirmed by the pixel counters on the Beyond3D technical forums, who recently brought us the resolution of Ghostbusters: The Video Game on the PlayStation 3. Like its predecessor, Modern Warfare 2 will be 600p on both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

Modern Warfare 2's native rendering resolution will result in 307,200 pixels less than if it was running at the high-definition 720p.

The question is whether this matters for Infinity Ward's upcoming game? Unlike Ghostbusters, Modern Warfare 2 will be an extremely impressive game both graphically and in its framerate; Infinity Ward is again targeting 60 frames-per-second, when most graphically impressive video games struggle to hit 30 frames-per-second.

A sub-HD rendering resolution is surely a compromise worth taking considering the benefits?"

I never truely understood the Call of Duty series.

Is there a reason to believe Modern Warfare 2 will dominate everything else so much this fall that publishers felt obligated to delay half my Christmas list into Winter 2010?

Updated the front page. Including the title. :p

Boy I've been playing too much Gears lately, but after watching the multiplayer game play on yt, I had to get back here and update this thread. Hopefully it will attract some more attention.

Btw, is there anyone here who knows every gun that has been shown so far? Seems like there has been a few new ones since my last update. Any information would be greatly appreciated! (Looking at you F8al) :)

*Researches...finds it!* :)

On the official Infinity Ward forums (www.infinityward.com/forum) they have 2 threads :

1. Confirmed weapons in Modern Warfare 2 (http://forums.infinityward.com/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=33922&)

2. Confirmed weapons with game pics (not being updated anymore, sadly) (http://forums.infinityward.com/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=34838)

News :

Call of Duty: Classic coming to Xbox Live and PSN 'eventually' : http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/31/call-of-duty-classic-coming-to-xbox-live-and-psn-eventually/

""Prestige and Hardened Edition buyers will be getting access to Call of Duty: Classic first. It'll eventually be coming out for both Xbox Live Arcade and PSN as a stand-alone arcade game," he said. Bowling also confirmed that this is the full edition of the original game, including multiplayer. Activision has made no mention of what the classic will be priced at, though considering the $80 price of admission for the Hardened Edition, we're assuming the game will run you around $20. Will it be more as a standalone?"

PC players will only get the regular edition : http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/30/pc-owners-spared-modern-warfare-2-bundles-difficult-decision/

I'm just glad that the M16 is making a triumph return to MW2! (Ah, good times...)

You should probably add the 3 different editions/versions of the game to the first post.

Edit : Call of Duty: Modern Warfare: Mobilized headed to DS

http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/03/modern-warfare-mobilized-headed-to-ds/

http://kotaku.com/5328758/modern-warfare-mobilized-coming-to-ds

"Activision has announced that Modern Warfare will be traversing a much smaller battlefield this holiday with the introduction of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare: Mobilized for the DS. It's a little joke, see, because it's mobile? Get it? Anyway, the title is being developed by n-Space, which also worked up the DS versions of both Call of Duty 4 and World at War.

Mobilized is set to feature "building-to-building tactical combat," controllable vehicles and will serve as a "companion narrative," presumably to its big brother on consoles. The game will also feature online multiplayer for up to six players, including a Survival Mode that pits players against waves of AI opponents, a la Horde Mode in Gears of War 2. An Arcade mode will also challenge players to rack up a high score.

Expect Modern Warfare: Mobilized to assault retailers on November 10th. Also, on a completely unrelated note, every holiday DS game has now been delayed until 2010."

WII

In other news, Activision yet again makes more money.

w00t i can get my AUG and FAMAS fix on the Wii now :D

Wii owners will be getting their own Modern Warfare fix this fall, as Activision will be releasing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare for Nintendo's best-selling platform in November alongside the release of Infinity Ward's Modern Warfare 2.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will be a port of Infinity Ward's blockbuster hit Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, originally released in 2007 on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC. The Wii version of that game is planned to arrive on November 10 of this year, the same day that Modern Warfare 2 ships to retail.

Activision is expected to announce the Wii port of the original Modern Warfare tomorrow. Call of Duty: World At War developer Treyarch will be handling development duties on the port.

Darn you Darslash, you beat me to posting the article. :)

Anyways I don't see good things coming out of this port of a great game on the Wii. Imagine CoD4 but with inferior graphics, online and the infamous Treyarch handling it. I already have CoD4 on my 360 and the PC so I won't be getting this port.

I hate Activison Blizzard because they're really milking their game series...

I think your reading wrong. Its MW 2 not MW1. Besides, CoD5 was pretty good for a FPS on the Wii. Sure the graphics were inferior, but it wasn't eye burning. Seeing how I was a sniper on CoD5Wii, a person like me would complain alot.

No...they are porting MW1 to the Wii, not MW2. So far, it's only been confirmed to be on the X360, PS3 and the PC. Most likely if this trend is going to follow, then MW2 will be ported over to the Wii in 2 years time.

I have CoD5 on my Wii. It's horrible because the controls make it barely playable IMO.

Anyways, this new info should be posted in the CoD4 thread. I took the liberty of posting the 2 articles for you in the thread located here : (http://www.smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=124801&page=7)

Is this another case of a person who didn't change their controls? I manage to get all the challenges for my M1 Garand. I can only do the Kar98 and M1917 challenges as well , because the 20+ EXP makes the levels go by to quickly, and the norm for me is 1000+ EXP per match. and you have 8 people only in the room.

Ohh and I read it wrong.. I was editing my post, but it seems that it didn't go through :ohwell:

If MW2 is anywhere near as addicting as MW was (which I am positive it will be), then I guarantee you that you will be hooked on MW2 for a loooong time.

Anyone remember the feeling of unlocking your first Digital camouflage for a gun? I thought I was the shiz tbh lol. AHHH goooood times. *wipes tear from face*

Activision announces that MW2 has broken pre-order records

http://kotaku.com/5331031/modern-warfare-2-marvel-ultimate-alliance-breaking-pre+order-records

"So when Activision come out and say that Modern Warfare 2 has more of them than any other game in company history, that's a lot.

That's more than any previous Guitar Hero game. More than any previous Call of Duty game. More than any...Pitfall game. Seeing as the last Modern Warfare game has already sold around 14 million copies, that has this one on track to sell, well, around that many again. Maybe even more. Which is an awful lot of copies.

The news was disclosed as part of Activision's earnings results today, along with the announcement that there are two downloadable map packs planned for the game."

MW2 it is. :)
Glad to hear that, you won't be disappointed.

EDIT : Modern Warfare 2 Prestige Editions to actually be limited

http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/06/modern-warfare-2-prestige-editions-to-actually-be-limited/

"However, it sounds like Infinity Ward's upcoming blockbuster Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will have a limited edition worthy of the adjective -- no additional copies of the Prestige Edition of the game will be made following the title's release.

In an interview with IGN, Infinity's Robert Bowling discusses the creative forces behind the opulent, night-vision goggles-equipped collector's edition, and explained its eventual scarcity. According to him, only one set of individually numbered Prestige Editions will be produced -- though retail chains have requested the developer create even more prestigious units."

Modern Warfare 2 Features Cameo From... 50 Cent?

http://kotaku.com/5332780/modern-warfare-2-features-cameo-from-50-cent

"Instead, he'll be making a cameo in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2."

"The rapper will simply lend his vocal talents to Modern Warfare 2 as "The Multi-Player Voice," according to official site ThisIs50.com. The rapper dropped the news following a visit to Infinity Ward, during which he played Modern Warfare 2 with Good Charlotte's Benji and Joel Madden. No official word yet on whether those two contribute to the game or if Infinity Ward was simply double booked.

Robert Bowling, the developer's director of communications, says that 50 Cent will be "one of the squad voices in Multiplayer / Spec Ops" on his Twitter account."

50 Cent was already in a Iraq movie called "Home of the Brave" I don't think its surprising he would be in Call of duty. As long as he doesn't start rapping, I have no problem.

***RUMOR + NOT OFFICIAL!!!!***

http://www.xboxic.com/news/5551

"The GamesCom event will take place next week on August 17th - August 19th. Information has been handed to Xboxic which leads us to believe that Robert Bowling (aka FourZeroTwo) the community spokesman for Infinity Ward will announce details via a press release of a Beta signup through modernwarfare2.com, with those who have pre-ordered ‘Prestige Edition’ of the game having immediate access. It is assumed that the retailers with exclusive pre-order sales will soon start emailing web site tokens to customers when the Beta is live. The web site token will then need to be registered at modernwarfare2.com with your email address to later receive your chosen Xbox360 or PS3 Beta console redeem code.

The Beta is rumoured to go live by September 10th and close towards the end of October. Until Infinity Ward release an official statement this can only remain a rumour. The Gamescom convention with Robert Bowling confirmed as in attendance will take place next week - so only time will tell if the information we received is correct."

Let's hope this rumor is true/confirmed next week.
