Brawl+ Updatifier - update files and load from USB/ DVD-r

Introducing the Brawl+ Updatifier by me, giantpune. This is a dol/elf that can be run from any wii that is able to run homebrew. What it does is connect to the internet (if you have WiFi) and update your Brawl+ files to match the latest official versions. This means that if your Wii is homebrew capable and has WiFi, then you don't need a PC at all to play the game. You are given the opportunity to rename existing files. It also has gecko OS build into it so you can launch that and start Brawl+ easily. It supports wiimote, GC, and classic control input as well.

If IOS222v4 is installed on the wii, it will allow booting from a DVD-r or WBFS formatted USB HDD. There still may be bugs in the booting methods, but the updating looks like it works perfectly. Booting also works perfectly on my Wii. But I only have 1 Wii to use for testing, so any input I can get about booting errors will help me track down bugs.

There seems to be a bug with IOS222 that causes it to blackscreen if you play a game and exit and try to start another one. Shutting down the Wii fixes this, and there is not much I can do about it. Also, once you click the button to play, gecko is set to autoboot, so it will read any settings you already have on the SD card and there should be the game in the drive before clicking the button.

here is a link to a precompiled dol (http://code.google.com/p/brawlplusupdatifier/ ) but it probably wont be the most up to date. The source code is there so you can check out the code and compile the latest and greatest version.

I might submit a patch for alternate GCT Name/Directory support so I can make this work with my Brawl Mod Launcher, or perhaps see if I can integrate that into this, or this into that.

Doesn't bionicsonic's autoupdater already do this?

although you can do this without a PC, which is pretty sexy.

Sweetness. I'll use this for updates, but my Wii can't install .wads anymore, so I'll just use the Gecko channel I installed previously for everyday things.

So like, load an ISO or what? Super pro.

Also, does it have an uninstaller? I reeaally would like one. An option so that it will go through and delete every .pac associated with brawl+. Because its very tiresome going into every folder to delete the .pac just so I can play normal brawl with my textures and music.

This is so awesome! Good work on the B+ loader.

I agree with what Rude said. If you could delete the .pac so you could play vBrawl with just your textures and music that would be cool.

When it asks about overwriting files (For instance, I use my own strap loader), it would be nice if there was a No option for overwriting. Renaming works, but eh.

Can't you just play vBrawl by loading without doing so through Gecko?

You completely missed the point. Who the hell would not want to play with textures and music if they already have them on there? That blind ignorance just drives me crazy.

Seriously. Textures and Music aren't just for Brawl+.

Edit:

Oops looks like ThatGuy already took care of it. Oh well I needed to get some ranting out of my system.

Brawl mod launcher?

Or you could have two fighter folders on your SD. Just make sure only one of them has the pac. files and rename it whenever you want to play something else.

Also, since this is a homebrew app, I just put it in the apps folder and run it through HBC, right? No need download anything extra?

ok. i have just successfully loaded brawl+ from dvd-r and from a usb hard drive. you still need the sd card with all the files because the game doesn't know how to read usb, but the game ISO itself is read entirely from a HDD. after some testing ill include it in the version for people to play with.

It keeps crashing when I try to load it with gecko OS from inside your program, but my gecko OS works fine.

It doesn't freeze. It just refuses to move on for a couple of times, no idea why.

I had to mash buttons until it finally pressed OK.

EDIT: Press B on the GC.

EDIT 2: Here's how it goes.

Screen 1 (Update/GeckoOs): Y to select Update or Gecko Os.
Screen 2 (GeckoOs): B to move on. (No idea if it actually presses the button or just reviews the updates, but the button says Gecko Os.)
Screen 3 (GeckoOs): Scroll all the way down to the last .pac. Press A. It'll highlight the Gecko Os button. Press X. It boots Gecko Os. You can also just press X alone.

What is in parentheses refers to what buttons there are at that screen.

Also: PLEASE use gecko 1.9.1 for this. 1.9.2 and 1.9.3 both are definitely not as good as 1.9.1.

what is better about those versions of gecko OS? i intend to possible remove geckoOS entirely from the equation and have this app load the game with the gct file and stuff. right now im just taking stuff from different places so if there is something better in those versions of the program, ill look into it. (but i don't think the source code is available for 1.91)

I thought that 1.93 was better than 1.91?
Unfortunately it might not be available, but 1.9.1 is definitely better. Only real reason I could think of is that 1.9.1 has been proven to load 2x faster than any other version.

Other reasons is that it comes with more of the options that other versions don't, and that more people coming to me have had more problems with 1.9.3 (and 1.9.2 for that matter) than 1.9.1. Matter of fact, I just tried the Updatifier-launched 1.9.3 and it gave me DSI Exceptions more than once.

if its speed youre worried about, the usb loading it 20x faster than from my original disc. even using a modified 1.92, i see the strap screen less than 3 seconds after pushing the button to play the game.
