but yeah...this is awesome...now that my first dream has been realized...my last dream is to find an hbc app that lets you browse textures and music hacks...oh boy how awesome that would be

ok. i have put a dol on the googlecode site mentioned in the first post (r7 dol) that loads from usb if cIOS222v4 is installed on the wii and IOS36 or 35 is old enough to allow the identify_su() to work properly. Also a wbfs formatted drive should be connected with any region SSBB ISO on it (though the updater still only works for ntsc). If cIOS222 is able to be loaded, there is a 15-20 second time that it allows to try to find the HDD and then the ISO. If it cant find this, then it still should still be able to boot a burned or original DVD. I have verified that all the different booting methods work, but I haven't checked that the order that it checks and falls back on other options works. (because i don't feel like uninstalling IOS from my wii or ISO from my HDD)

The expected outcome is that it starts the dvd drive instead of the HDD. And it falls back on IOS36 (the normal SSBB IOS) if it cant load 222. But the worst that will happen is that it tries to load one of the stubbed IOS that nintendo put in with the 4.2 update and will freeze. No chance of bricking the wii.

I would be happy if somebody without IOS222 can try it and let me know if everything works. And also somebody who has official 4.2 system menu and has not removed the stub IOS.

Sounds cool. I don't have IOS222 I'll give it a try.

Update: I downloaded Rev 7 and it updated everything fine the only issue was Gecko OS. For some reason it seems to be using an old version of Ocarina that locks you out of you SD card in Brawl and doesn't use the gameconfig.txt to properly load the codes and doesn't load ISOs from USB. Did you pack the wrong Dol?

Second Update: After installing IOS222 I got USB loading to work codes and all but It seems to hang and wait for a USB drive now instead of going to disc when a USB drive isn't present. I've also gotten two code dumps while loading GeckoOS but I don't know what those are about. I don't think my problems are typical because I've done a lot of modifications to my Wii. Someone else should test it out and post what they find.

so basically you are saying that before you had ios222 it just acted like there was no sd card there at all? it didn't load anything from there?

omg. I can't wait for this to be made into a channel. Especially after giantpune works out any bugs. giantpune, do you know how to turn this into a wad?

Correct, I don't remember exactly but I'm pretty sure GeckoOS said it found codes but for some reason it didn't apply them and locked me out of my SD card in Brawl.

This is what I was talking about dude.

That's just one of the reasons I encourage people to use 1.9.1 first; 1.9.3 just won't work for some. I'm not sure if it's an ios problem, hell I don't know what an IOS is really, but I'd stay away from it. If there's a simple fix though, then go on.

That isn't a problem Gecko OS typically has. This is the first time since the first version of Ocarina that has happened to me. When i loaded the codes through Gecko OS 1.9.3 everything worked fine.

this isnt probably a problem from geckoOS. it is more likely that i made the bug in the stuff i moved around.

as far as making a channel, yes, that stuff is easy. I have made plenty of them. when this is working like it should, ill slap it in one.

Ok, I have changed around some stuff in rev9 with the different booting methods. Everything arrears to be working on my Wii (DVD, DVD-r, USB). All load fine. I have made gecko autoboot for now, so you should already have the settings on the SD card and the game in the drive ready to go. Also there appears to be a bug when I start a game from USB and then exit and try to start another game with IOS222. Unfortunately this is between the IOS and the Wii so I probably cant fix it.

It would help to fix stuff if I can get bug reports at the bug tracker on the googlecode page from the first page.

i think before r10 will not work for people missing a usb gecko. that is why it was working fine for me testing and not other people. i have changed this in r10 and it works fine with or without the gecko now.

So, I just got this, I can't seem to load B+ via USB.

That's coming soon or am I screwing something up?

well its still a work in progress. what revision are you using? please try with the latest one from the url in the first post. and if it still doesn't work, please fill out a issue there with more info. it will help me figure out why it doesn't work for you.

Well I start off Gecko after updating then I press load channel then choose brawl error of some kind.

Load game was dependent on having a game in the drive, so I was kinda outta options.

EDIT: Got a new version pressed load via USB it loaded the disc.

EDIT2: I tried taking out the disc then loading it, ERROR.

Hope this helps.

it should be all automatic. you press the button to play the game and then select how you want to play. then it SHOULD boot up gecko OS and gecko OS will read the method that you selected to boot the same and start the same. what rev were you using? do you have IOS222v4? and can you check the SD card for a file called sd:/geckoBootInstructions.cfg and see what is in it? If that file isn't present, than you aren't using the latest version for sure.

EDIT>>>>>>
when it loads brawl from the dvd, do you see the normal strap screen or the brawl+ screen? this will let me know if it still is trying to access the SD card while it is not ready.

can you verify that there is a file on your sd card "sd:/geckoBootInstructions.cfg" and that it contains
Code:
# Note: This file is automatically generated
IOS222
bootfromUSB
if you have that, please try this - http://www.mediafire.com/?rlozzt50wmy. it is the embedded version of geckoOS that is loaded. it doesn't matter if there is a disc in the dvd slot or anything. you just need the SD card with the bootup instructions and the settings file from normal geckoOS, a HDD with SSBB on it, and the right IOS.

I just got home from the hospital yesterday, so sorry for not helping out to test and being useless lately.

I installed IOS222 v4 (IOS38 merged with 37), and tried IOS222 USB in rev 11, only to have it go to a black screen after "SD codes found. Applying..." Any reason why?

can you try running just the gecko192.elf that is compiled inside the updatifier? it is in the data folder in the source code.

and did you get this same behavior with r10?

"Error: No DVD Found." My DVD drive for the Wii is dead so I'm using a USB drive to boot up Brawl. =\

I just tried r10, it works! Wonder why it didn't in r11.

Go to sd:\private\wii\app\RSBE\st\

Make sure there is not a file named st_exploit.bin

If there is, rename it to stage_exploit.bin

Otherwise, I'm not sure.

I tried both r10 and r11 but both would only load the DVD that was in the drive instead of loading from the connected USB like I told it to. I'll be giving it another go later I guess.

Oh sorry forgot to mention that removing the game and telling it to load USB just told me there was no DVD and locked my system up.

DoubleNeg, do you have Hermes's cIOS installed? IOS222, IOS38 combined with 37?

I'm gonna download this tomorrow for sure! :D

BTW, I'm assuming thisauto downloads the latest GCT, if we don't want to use said GCT do we have the option to tell it NOT to replace our current one? I'm just curious, as I have some custom codes I don't want over-written.

Thanks! ;D

It downloads the latest GCT, but if it detects a file already exists, it'll ask if you want to rename it, and show an on-screen keyboard
