Here's food for thought for the smashers out there. Let's say your with your character that you're using and you decide to pick someone else during the friendly or set (could be secondary, random, anything). After your matches, your opponent gives you props and your character props, but instead of the character you main they give the other character you used major props. Has this ever happened to anyone? Tiers and what other people think aside, do you think that your playstyle and skill should belong to someone else?

Why did I make this? It's because I asked myself the same question. Combining my Wifi and offline status, ICs **** my Sonic in terms of "Who do I play best with?" This was the case even before ICs was in A tier so this might not be a tier thing or better character based on match-ups. Think of it like this, if I said I was the best Sonic in NYC, there would be many disagreements and flames. However, if I claimed #1 ICs in NYC, I would get that with little fuss. I dunno anymore I'm a huge Sonic fan but I can't really ignore this much longer. I always say that Sonic is my best, maybe I'm in denial. My Sonic still gets respect offline though so maybe I was right about him being my best. Meh, I'm confused.

I had this with Sonic. I just dropped him because I was bad with him. I tried out everyone, I was decent with Marth and I eventually went for Olimar.

I'm terrible with my main characters.

But I have fun with them.

So why use someone I win with like DK when I can just stick with Mario and have more fun than anyone else?

I always main characters in the games I love. Wario, Kirby, Ice Climbers, Samus, Yoshi, and Marth. Well since half of those characters do very well compere to the tier list, I guess I have no real problems. ^_^;

I tried my best to keep my old mains, Ganon and Falco, but they were just too different. But I still use Ganon for the lulz online.

I mained Snake for a while until I saw Chudat's kirby. I knew my favourite character was no longer terrible so I picked him up.

I started up ROB for a while and got good feedback from my opponents. I picked him up.

I main Kirby and ROB. I second Snake.

And that's all because of what I saw and heard. Weird, but I'm happy with em'.

I main Ice Climbers because I don't like to waste time in games, and they can end games quickly. I guess they're perfect for me. :x

I was actually a Kirby main (that's right) till my friend had a birthday party and we were playing Brawl, I picked random and I got G&W, I won mostly and my friends told me that my G&W was way better than my main Kirby, so I dropped Kirby and now I main G&W.

I'm pretty much tied between Samus and Ike as far as maining in Brawl. Could I probably be better if I went to ROB, who's probably my secondary? Yeah. But I like Samus and Ike, both playing with them and as characters.

Plus I "main" Melee, and in Melee I main Samus by far, so Samus is always going to be my official main.

As soon as I played pit in multiplayer I knew he was for me. I just clicked with him. His attacks can support good combos. And ever since I found out his ATs I just knew he was for me. I'm good at pressing my attack with him. I mained Marth in Melee and still main him today (I main Pit AND Marth). Marth has a good counter ability, and just fits my style of being carefull and punishing opponents. What I think you should do is just use the character you feel natural with and fits your personality. Don't pick a character that will force you to do something you don't feel comfortable with to be a good player with them. When I tried to play Fox, I HATED how fast he fell. I couldn't really do any aerial combos with him, and his ground attacks were too jerky and didn't fit with what I was trying to do.

So what I'm trying to say is use a character you feel natural with. That's the character that's going to carry you through tough matches. Just. Be .Natural.

It's weird cause I used ICs all the time in Melee. I wanted to go to Melee tourneys with them way back when I first heard about the competitive scene. Now that Brawl's here and my dude came into Brawl, they're not my official main anymore. It's like they're trying to call me back .

I never doubt that Marth is my best character, and by a solid margin. But my second is Zelda, and sometimes I feel so limited by her. Sometimes, she clicks, and sometimes she doesn't. Also, in Melee, I used Samus a fair amount, but realized in Brawl that it just wasn't gonna happen with her. I replaced her spot with Peach at the moment, though Pit, Lucario, Ike, and others have all found themselves in my 4th spot at times (Fox is 3rd).

Anyway, I've been using Puff since SSB, so I've never been inclined to get a new "main". With this in mind, I've never had a consistent secondary besides Ganon, and even now I'm wondering why I still play as him.

I always get told Lucario is my best character although I still use Sonic and Snake more. I perform best with him (not including Metaknight ) so maybe I should put most of my time into Lucario :/ Its just not as fun as using Sonic, or having the ability to put all your brawl skill into play with Snake/MK and not be held back by character limitations often lol

yeah I hate it when my other character do better than my Jiggs. The puff is supose to be supreme. But even if a do better with other characters Jigglypuff IS my destined character and ALWAYS will be!

I have played as the ice climbers for about 5 years and I can't D-throw chain throw... WTF but I can chain throw, just not that one. But I luv D-SMASH so much it is to good.

I play as pichu every now and then, it's kind of funny I look for pichu fights on youtube to learn from the past players and It's mostly just nairs. When I use all of his moves and it works out great.

It's called LOL+.

Anyway I never get complimented because I never (okay I don't never, just rarely) use any other character than Sonic, and some people might give you props to other characters perhaps because they aren't used to fighting the other character or have it worse with them than your main.

There's also the fact that some characters are better than others and can be taken farther. Does it really matter when you might be the best Ganondorf player in your area as much as it does... oh... not a top top tier character... but maybe Kirby? You can be great with both, both some people will be impressed with your Ganon because... well... it's Ganon (and maybe because nobody has ever seen or played a good one), but some others will be more intrigued by your Kirby skills, maybe due to just never seeing a good one, or surprise factor... do you expect many people to be good with that character (at least not the well-known pros who already are renowned (sp?) for their abilities with said character)?

It feels like I'm repeating the same thing, but maybe I've helped answer some things or give some insight for you to find the answer you were looking for yourself... Then again maybe not, I'm just trying to lend a hand.

Thats precisely what happened with me and ZSS. While being a mediocre player who played Sonic I picked up ZSS for the funzies in friendlies. (Combos? Down-B insult kills yes please) I never really played her as much as Sonic until I started winning more matches with her, at first I put this down to just ZSS being a better character and all that. But eventually it became apparent that I was naturally better with ZSS than Sonic, hell I'd get more compliments on my ZSS (OMG you just beasted that life 0-Death? ZOMG) than my Sonic, and Sonic is one of those chars you get compliments for just playing sort of well. I still use Sonic a bit and CP certain chars with him, but overall I use more ZSS.
Long story short, if that happens it might be better to switch, but always try to keep your original skill you never know when it will help.
