I don't want to die. I'd rather live, thank you!
At least, I would not want to die a violent death, or one from illness.
Because that would hurt quite a bit (regret, too).
As for the being dead part... no, I'm not afraid.

Still, I'd rather be alive.

Yes I'm afraid to die, but that doesn't mean I wouldn't mind being dead. Some people may be better off dead. It's the fear of the unknown and possible pain that scares people.

Another question that may fit into this subject might be "How do you honestly think you will die?" The keyword is honestly. And ya of course you don't know how you're going to die, most of the time anyways.

Death gravely scares me (lolpun). I'm scared of what's to happen next. Being a Catholic, I obviously have faith in life after death.

What I'm most scared of is the way I die. I don't want to die in pain or sufferance.

You know its funny. If you told me exactly what came after death, Id be perfectly fine with whatever it was so long as the afterlife (or lack thereof) was the same for us all. But as atheist as Ive become, I cannot hush the childish fear that when I die theres a chance that Ill be going to hell. Its utterly ridiculous and absurd that such a nonsensical thing would ever happen to anyone, yet my logic fails to settle this fear in me. Its almost sad really the impact that religion can have on you at a young age.

With that being said, I find that I think more for the mental health of my loved ones when Im gone than I worry about death itself. Ive never really felt like if I died I would feel that I wish I had accomplished more in life before passing. I really and truly feel that life is completely meaningless, and regardless of what you do it was all pointless in the end.

I honestly would invite death. I am quite curious to see what lies beyond.

No, I've come to accept it now. It used to invoke fear in me, but fearing something that is inevitable is foolish.

I just want to die peacefully, more afraid of being in dreadful pain then the actual death.

It was this quote from Yoda that pushed me in the right direction lol.
“Death is a natural part of life. Rejoice for those around you who transform into the Force. Mourn them do not. Miss them do not. Attachment leads to jealously. The shadow of greed, that is.”

I'm not afraid of death..
I have realised that there will always be something I don't know before I die, and that is; "Is there something after death, and if so, what?"

Although when I die, I'd like to go without blood. I.e. natural death / heart attack / some sort of poisoning. (Yes, I have Haemophobia.. Not an extreme one though, but large amounts of blood is something normal to be freaked out by.)

I think I'll die in a motorcycle accident. I don't have my license yet, but I just have this feeling that when I do I wouldn't be able to hold in the gas throttle :p.

Everyone is afraid to die. Those who deny it lie and are actually the most afraid. It's basic human instinct, the will to live. This is the reason why nobody can drown on purpose, or choke themselves.
You CAN drown yourself on purpose, how do you think people that suicide do it? lol

And you can't choke yourself because you'll pass out and... -gasp- lose your grip.

Indeed. Should be pretty obvious.

You either pass out and lose your grip, or the lack of oxygen makes your muscles not able to use the required energy and your grip loosens and you don't die, or pass out..

"The will to live" makes people automatically afraid of dying?
Personally, I'd say that if you're too afraid that you'll die, you eventually lose your will to live, and then confort that fear.
(But remember, suicide ain't an answer.. It will only leave you with no answers to things you could know if you lived. Realising that was what made me stop even considering that committing suicide would be an answer.
Because as long as the question I mentioned in my earlier post isn't the only question I have, I have a reason to live, basically.)

And sorry if someone thinks that I'm talking too lightly about death/suicides.

Hell yes, I am now.
Probably always will be slightly, but I'd probably be far more accepting of my fate from the age of 70 upwards.

yeah i understood this before i ever posted. i am a religios man, but i still am not like. woot woot i'll take on death and face it like man.

this thing where people talk about dieing painfully. if i am not mistaken when your body is hitting that point the brain shuts down the pain receptors. so your final moments wont be in pain... i think someone back me up on this.

and to the people who are atheist. why be it if you fear the concept of ending forever?

I don't really think about it much, and it doesn't really ever bother me.... so mostly no. Dying accidentally, maybe.

Without death, our lives would be meaningless.
What is the point of living a life if there is no ultimate consequence?

I am afraid of death, because the cryptic happenings afterwards.
It is a horribly scary thought of all of a sudden not feeling or existing. But, when it comes I will embrace it with wisdom. There is a time for everything and until then I will live.

Well old age also includes a lot of the time pain.
Death itself may not be painful, but fading from existing while in pain. Now that is scary.

I would like to disregard your last comment but I cannot.

Atheists look for substantial evidence of a god or existence of a lasting place. They believe that if there is no evidence towards a god, then believing it is lying to oneself.
It is worse to them to die as a hypocrite, than it to die in fear.

Just because one can imagine a heaven or believe in it, doesn't mean we should.

To be honest, I am to afraid to die, because as an atheist, I'm pretty sure that there is no afterlife (and the thought of ceasing to exist is a pretty **** scary thought).

The thought of the slight possibility that I might be wrong is rather terrifying too (I guess it's the negative impact that being indoctrinated with Christianity leaves on you xD). Unless the afterlife is not dependent on believing in a certain god.

Anyways, I do accept that one day we all will die though. For now, all we can do is live life to its fullest.

I'm a little scared of death, but my main concern of being scared is what happens after I die. I especially don't want to die when I'm still young. When I get older I wouldn't care as much. It really depends.

depends. if i get bombed in a war id be scared as hell. when i die old sure id like to go. and for those people who say that if you get to live eternal is better well i dont think so. if i live for a hell of a long time there is a time thats gonna come that im gonna want to die. not from being miserable but from being tired. there would be a time id like to put my bones to rest. other wise i am not ready to die yet. hell id like to **** before i die. although the thought of there not being an afterlife is pretty scary to me. what if all the religions weve learned is a lie and there is no god or something. but the fact that alot of people see ghosts kinda resparks my belief that there is an afterlife. also the fact that when 2012 comes that we might die also kinda scares me. but im not a nut just saying that it is gonna come like my parents (mostly because the earth still has about another 2 billion years on it left (sorry if im wrong)) but if there is such a thing as it and if it does come ima gonna be ****ting my pants

The thought of death occurring? A little disturbing to me since it can range anywhere between nice and easy and seriously painful.

What really bothers me is what happens AFTER death. The concept of never doing anything ever again, including breathing. I mean, if there's a such thing as reincarnation or some sort of afterlife, that would be alright.

Otherwise, imagine being in a black room unable to do anything with your mind shut off. :(

Well, I am afraid of not being spiritual ready when I die. Other than that, dying would be a great thing.

Yeah same thing to me too. I feel, I better get right, before its time for me to lay down if you know what I mean. Like you said, there not much to fear about death after that.

Usually the idea that keeps someone from committing suicide is the fact that they have something to do, something to accomplish, they can't leave something behind. When they have no connections to the world anymore, they are then ready to accept death.

This factor will come for me when I'm of course, an old man. Society has made it a duty for everyone to have a role in life, therefore everyone has a purpose to live. Once mine is done, then I'll welcome death. Even though I'm not religious at all, and I don't believe in heaven or hell, I can stay calm about it.

2012 is a joke though. The theoretical scientists should've considered the fact that 2012 would've arrived at some point >_>. They're no better then those horrible cancer research scientists.

EDIT: I've also considered reincarnation, but thoughts and beliefs are only a byproduct of the brain's function. Natural selection made it big for a reason, so we can live in an enviroment without any natural protection. Therefore, any life after death seems like it wouldn't be a possibility. If all goes well with reincarnation however, I'd like the Universal scientists and Stephen King to be right about the billions of parralel universes and dimensions.

EDIT2: Cancer has been (supposedly) cured. Also, I will give anyone 20 internet cookies if they know what Stephen King book gave the theory I talked about in the above edit.

im not afriad to die at all. its the fact the you will not come back alive, that whats scare me.
Not nessisarilly, certain religion's say you could come back as something different, as it's commonly called reincarnation, and of course there's the whole ghost, zombie, and vampire theories.

I'm not scared of death cause when I die I won't be able to care or be scared or anything because I won't exist anymore. I"m more scared of what is gonna happen those few minutes right before I die.

Scared as heck.

But the biggest thing for me, is not being able to see future discoveries and inventions. Like, being born a couple hundred years ago and being told about the internet would blow my mind. Imagine would there would be hundreds if not thousands of years from now. I wanna know about it. ):

I'm terrified of EVERY aspect of death. But the largest fear for me is the part when "I" no longer exist. I don't want my consciousness to ever dissapear (despite me not even being aware of it once in that state).

Dying does not mean becoming non-existent. Your death can always bring forth something else to loved ones, or the entire world. Think leaders. Martin Luther King, Jr is a great example, and most importantly, Jesus Christ. lol
