I really want to go to this tournament, and it's looking really likely cause I will have enough money saved up, and it's right before classes start for me. I have a couple questions though:

1) will there be lots of melee TV's each day? day 2 looks like a lot of brawl, and I'm not traveling all the way out there to watch that. insert gratuitous brawl hate here

but really, i know you gotta finish the tournament and all, that's cool. i'm sure the brawl players will get TV's when melee is happening too right? this is probably not a big deal, just thought i'd ask

2) why isn't pools happening for doubles? doing one giant-*** bracket at a big tournament like this doesn't really make sense. with ample set-ups you guys should at least be able to find some time to do one wave of pools. minor complaint though

3) what airport should i fly into, newark? also i need housing. that can be dealt with later though

peace

Is there any chance to have a "Road to Apex" qualifiers tournament here in Puerto Rico? We are really interested in going to this!

reason we arent doing on in PR is because no one has stepped up to help us. A lot of the qualifiers came to us or we asked around. We do not mind just something to look at.

The Apex Staff will have lots of setups for both games each day. It will not be something that will be avoided.

As far as Doubles Bracket it just makes more logistical sense to do doubles as a bracket only. Yes you can argue that people will love pools more but at the same time each doubles event had at most 80-100 teams and doing pools just for that will not be in our advantage especially with the the new schedule that we have.

Newark is the closest but sometimes the airports in Philly and New York can be cheaper. If you let us know in advance we can take care of you and help drive you to the tournament.

In the coming weeks I will begin to setup the Housing and Setup Thread as I did last year.

I want to let everyone know that Apex and the Apex staff is here for both games. We both enjoy Brawl and Melee and want the community as a whole to prosper. In the end we understand that one community will want things over the other but we are about equal treatment. With that in mind we are working on so many things that will make this the place to be. Stay tuned for updates from Apex staff for various updates!

People really should use friday for all their brawl mms/improv crews, and the same goes for Saturday for the melee guys. Any chance we can get community run side events on the each game's respective off days? Or is this already in the works?

Times like this I wish I could like posts <3

edit: I agree with mav, brawl crews should be done friday since there's nothing else going on then. At least do USA vs the World then since that particular crew battle NEVER seems to ACTUALLY happen. =/

128-man brackets are dumb. i understand where you're coming from alex, but i really don't think it would take much longer to run pools to run it into a 64-man bracket. also, seeding people right into a huge bracket like that is impossible, cause seeding teams is even harder than seeding singles. team chemistry means more than individual skill, so pools give lesser known teams a chance to prove themselves.

I understand all the concerns about pools for doubles. I thank you guys for the time you put into this. With that said I want you to look at the issues Apex 2010 dealt with.

-We asked everyone to please sign up with their partner. Unfortunately many did not know who their partner was until the day off. This caused various seeding problems and some pools were remade.

-Even when pools were remade we had some who, because they did not know their partner, did not register online at all. Those people had to be put into singles pools and we had to reseed.

-Because many players had complaints about Friday due to school, we have basically lost a full day for extra time for Apex 2012. Due to this we have to focus on efficiency and making a great event go well. While pools will make us have more matches, it will also mean all the issues I stated above.

-Seeding is a lot easier for Apex 2012 due to all the qualifiers. They will be seeding points for doubles as well as singles. This will help us to properly seed and seed much faster.

Our Apex staff had a long discussion about this and we made sure we talked about the pros and cons about the event. I want to let everyone know that we spend a good deal of time working this out.

Meh

You should make registration online and mandatory but then they have until like that Thursday to tell you their partner

For such a huge financial investment this is for so many people that won't make any money having pools is a big deal. Not to mention a lot of people aren't going to be able to attend more than 1 road to apex event to get seeded or even team with the same person.

Have pools sat and bracket for dubs Sunday morning up until top 4 around the time its going to be shown anyway

The official site launched to the public yet as I mentioned before (which has all the qualifiers on it as well). And the thread (there are updates in the OP) is being worked on.

We have tried that last year. Sadly we still had to extent registration and it held up a lot of things. I understand that you want more matches but the issue is because so many felt Friday was a bad day for them due to school we basically lost a day.

Pools extend the event at least 3-4 hours which means we would have to play matches into the 12-2am range. That is something we want to avoid. We are not asking everyone to attend all the qualifiers but they do help.

Trust me if people could of came Friday for brawl it would not have been an issue. Unfortunately we have to make due with what we have. Also, we all the new features we, as a group, decided doubles pools was not the way to go.

Also, last year we had only about 80-100 teams. Having one round of pools just does not seem necessary. We are requiring people to register online only this year and based on that we may change the schedule. At this time we are going on what happened last year and basing our changes on that.

I will make it clear that if we have over 128 teams we will do pools. Be advised though that if this happens we will be playing into the night. People will be tired and such. Something I know will happen regardless but I want to make sure everyone has a great experience.

I know that is a long answer but please people realize we are doing more than just a tournament. We have a lot planned during the event, and we want to balance that along with, a tournament that needs to run efficiently and professionally.

I know it is a forum so please keep the questions up.

EDIT : The big reveal will be coming this week. We will be pushing for Sunday at the latest.

It is not you that we worry about bud its all the players that complained saying Friday was a school day ( even if most have it off ) and giving a general outcry that it was wrong to miss school for Apex.

Some people just enjoy complaining for reasons that are not that serious.

If I do pools it will be on the same day as Brawl. We would basically be doing 1 round of pools.

Again I feel that we will not hit that amount and if we do we will have more problems with singles since I believe in my heart we can reach 300 for each game.

Guys, seriously, we think we can reach 300 for each game. This is going to be the hypest tournament of all time up to this point. This isn't just a tournament, it's an experience. Get everyone you know to go
