gonna be short shoutouts coz computers located in the middle of the bush are not renowned for high functionality. haha lol jks still gonna be huge just not gonna format them well
If I played you in a set than you probably got a mention twice
Shoutouts for sets that I played:
Melee;
Alien - good games early in bracket man, I didn't play many of the intermediate ACT players but if others are around your level than ACT is a bit stronger than I expected in Melee. Cheers for finishing off the opposing crew at Chef's place.
Quetz - I only won by one stock each game but I felt I was finally getting some aspects of the Peach MU (my worst) right, finally, so that was good. That bob-omb hit got me while i was in turn around because i messed up a dash dance, you picked an uncannily good time to throw it! Also super proud of my combo on Dreamland that took you from like 13% to the grave. Hopefully you plan to revitalise some of your Melee game; even though PM is what's cool in Perth I hope you'll come back stronger next time I play you in Melee!
ZXV - As you may have interpreted, I was pretty upset with how I played against you. Not that I expected to win, although I feel I could have won if my tech was perfect. But it wasn't so I shouldn't have won
Not sure how much you were trying in friendlies, but I felt much better about those games anyway. It's nice that you're impressed with my improvement but I have to do better
Good to see you and finally play you in Melee. Congrats on beating Dekar, I hope we get to have another shot at you at a major next year though >
and also hang out more too <3
Joe - I expected your tech to be a bit more on point but you dropped a few combos. I can't see much out of Falco dittos because it's so weird but if you just worked on tech and thought a lot more about how you recover it'd be closer. Edge-guarding better and mixing up recovery better is the main reason I went 2-0. See you at BAM
Spup - I'm not sure how much you've improved between Shadowloo and ZEAL but I don't think it applied much to the Falco MU. I've definitely playing more Fox than you've been playing Falco. It's always a pleasure to play you, probably my favorite sets (and you're the only non-VIC player I've played 3 times this year!), but this time wasn't particularly close. Please please hit the lab even harder, and wreck me next time we meet. We have to work hard, work together and push each other if we're going to usurp Dekar, SD and ZXV
Dekar - I definitely learnt more from that one Melee set against you in Losers Finals than I learnt in the rest of weekend. I do not think you were on point and that might be part of the reason I was able to see some things that I need to do against you to shake your dominance and apply my own. Definitely a lot to think about. Hopefully ZXV gave you some things to think about too. Don't you know you are the best? you have to get back up!
Project M
Lux - GG's man, I expected you to do better in bracket. I still don't understand what Zelda does and not sure how to beat you and your character so I expect you to handle me again if we play. Hope you keep playing.
Summoner - That set was stupidly close. I don't believe I deserved to win on the day, I just happened to get the right hits in the last stock of the last game, via luck (not skill). Your a champ for not being salty though and I hope you enjoyed the set despite the outcome, it was pretty tight! Again, thanks for your help regarding communication about housing, sorry we didn't party/meet together but that's just how it goes i guess.
Quetz - The only person I used Fox against! Was my fav PM set and I felt outplayed rather than out-charactered (that's probably because I was playing fox though hahaha), gg's and congrats on 3rd, especially for beating my man Jamwa. I'm sure that was an intense set for you and a victory worth travelling for
I was heavily invested it anyway, you crushed me as well when you won, so well played.
Forte - Sorry I know what your character does man #ProjectM
Nick - Sorry I know what your character does man #ProjectM
ZXV - what the hell does your character even do, I got so rekt in game one I couldn't even hold the controller in game two #ProjectM
Shoutouts for people who I chilled with:
QLD
Phrase - cheers for the words of encourangement regarding my depression on Saturday. The main thing that made me get my spirits back up was playing Doubles. I kind of Isai'd a bit and got inspired to try I guess. But you definitely made me feel better at the time. Always great to have you around, and congrats on your victory on Nick. Nick didn't just choke, but you DIDN'T. You took the opportunity and that's actually a well done to you; I really don't want you to feel like you didn't deserve your placing. Watching your set against Joe I definitely think you could've gone further too. You are getting better, but decision making and confidence in areas such as edge-guarding are underdeveloped. Some people can get some of these things down fast (like Nick) but they come naturally from experience. Placing 7th at a major but playing for less than a year was unheard of to me before 2014. This already shows you have determination and have worked harder than other players, who are more veteran than you but didn't make it. I feel like time is on our side, for you and I, and Mytus and PCG, when it comes to catching up with the top players. Never give up!
Mytus - Always good to see you, and I hope I gave you some ideas about how to approach teams even though some were badly constructed (I haven't teamed with a Sheik before and the sandwich idea seems idiotic in retrospect). Congrats on beating Quetz, he was super hard for me so you definitely must have played your heart out to earn that one. It's a shame you had to play Spup but at least it was a set you could laugh about losing. You and Phrase's performance at this is showing signs of life for the future of QLD Melee, and the fact you are keeping up with PCG (losing in pools but winning the MM) is also a great rivalry; he is constantly improving too.
Spup - In addition to the earlier shoutout I'd like to invite you to hang your head in shame together with me, for both getting rekt by Gords' Zelda
Russell - eyyy Russy russ rus Russell, Russo, Ruzza
nice dair m8
Perth a.k.a. Quetz - Was great to hear you reminisce about the scene from your time and provide some substantial commentary on the poorly-documented history left behind by SmashWiki. The social chills after a big tourney are always worthwhile and I'm glad you could come along for them. Your GnW wasn't too shabby
NSW
Summoner & ZXV - unfortunately I don't have much else to add aside from the previous shoutouts, so I will use this space to recommend all parties spend more time together next time!
Gords - Cheers for the lift from Chef's. You teached Spup and I quite a few lessons in humility, something our Bowser and DK must learn from. But having played your sheik too I have to say I think you've managed to improve quite a bit from ACL. I know it's frustrating missing tech but a lot of people still do actually and yours was relatively good when I was playing you. At ACL you mentioned difficulties you were having trying to play the game better, but in our limited play time I think you've made some steps forward.
SA
Nick - Now I see how you reset Redact. You also handled your loss pretty well, you surely expected better and with how well you were doing vs. Me and Spup in friendlies, rightly so. There's no doubt to me though, that you'll only get scarier in the future. I expect to get demolished by Marth Ftilts on stream one day. Now I may be disrespecting Oli with this next comment, but he simply doesn't travel and I think you're better anyway despite not playing Oli for years. In you, SA certainly now has a respectable and fear-inducing Melee player.
ACT
Chef - You're a champ dude, wish I played you a bit more. Cheers for having us over and doing weird things to Melee while me and Spup lost to Gords... you touched it in places I have not seen it be touched before and it was crazy.
Scabe - I enjoy pronouncing your name wrong, Sah-tur-rah. Tinman did a decent job to sell ACT but you'll have to house me next time yeah? I promise good jams
Congrats on winning smash 4, I'll be on FB in a few weeks to share music soon, we haven't had a chat for ages
Apollo - I completely forgot you live in ACT. While I won't be playing Smash4 competitively myself it'd be great to see you compete in Melbourne and catch up properly
VIC
Dean - Sorry it turns out I'm terribad at Smash 4. I hope you have a new appreciation for the importance of deep breathing now. I also hope you were happy with 5th, your set vs that Ganondorf (waveguider?) was super tight I really think you deserved the win
Dreadtech - Congrats on 7th, glad you're happy with it.
Dom - Cheers for all you must have done with streaming, and I hope coming down was worth for you.
VIC Car Crew -
Alex - Thanks for playing the role of responsible adult for the weekend, hope Forte helped with the drive back and that you didn't get too wrecked from the driving. Music chills with Jam were great
Jamwa - You played some good ProjectM and even though you lost to Quetz I think you played great in the set. There were good signs. I think if you focused on Melee though, you could achieve similar results. I also think you'd feel less salty when you lost, and I could help you more.
Forte - Early morning tournament crew represent! Sc2 plebs everywhere hey
Dekar - Hope you got home safe man (and on Monday). James Turrell Retrospective was good value, I definitely have some stuff to think about during my holiday, and a newfound appreciation for colored ovals. Cheers for sharing the experience. Also, good hustle rocking teams for PM and Melee.
Tournament Organiser:
TINMAN
Yooo dude, top effort. I'm not gonna lie; I originally wasn't planning on coming because I don't know many people from ACT, and wasn't confident in big numbers and a solid event, due to the rather short notice and ACT being a relatively small scene. Alas, the VIC monthly event on the same day was much bigger (for Melee anyway). But you went all out on making a name for ACT and providing a worthwhile experience for out of staters. Digging into the budget to lessen the blow on our wallets is something I am very thankful for and hopefully the ACT players are motivated from this event and more keen to help the scene grow.
For me, in the end, the opportunity to play Spup, ZXV, Quetz and Nick was very much worth the trip alone. Thanks for making it all come together, and hopefully you have some ideas to improve things in future.
The ClashTournaments hook-up was also sick but it would be great to handle the stream and commentating more professionally in the future. I appreciate you asking me for help with seeding and I hope I made it better overall. Not 100% happy with pools but I think the 16 man brackets came out great at least
Grats on 2nd in Smash 4 btw, that was a huge push through losers.
