A Question about Melee's metagame for the veterans

This thread, like my previous, is being created for archive purposes for the use of future citations.

My question pertains the pace at which Melee's metagame evolves.

Do you think Melee has the kind of metagame where the peak players from 2007/2008 could contend with the peak players from 2011?

The same question, reworded because I don't want people using ambiguity johns:
If you take a hypothetical top player who plays at the peak of the 2007/2008 metagame, and pit him against top players who play at the peak of the current 2011 metagame, how would the performance stack up?

Detailed responses are appreciated, though any and all responses are welcome.

Honestly, it would be no contest. The top players now are worlds beyond that of what was top in 2007. It's part of what makes Melee so great.

How bout others? Agree/disagree with the above?
This is meant to be a pseudo poll so more answers are welcome, even if they are repeat.

I feel like even above average spacies players from 2011 metagame would dominate 07s top players due to the unexpected levels of shield pressure and Wavedash oos options

Everything evolves over time. You can't really compare past and present because the past is always going to be behind.

If we were able to compare skillwise of players from 2007 thats till played today's era then it would be a different story. Even though some of the older players can place well they don't exactly place as well as they did once upon a time.

Top players back then could probably beat some decent players now. But not today's top players.

Ken and Isai could not beat 4 leaf Mango in today's metagame. People are just too perfect. I never played anyoen top player in the 07 days but. I feel like today you need to make 0 mistakes or else you're done and it wasn't as strict as it is now in earlier years.

Teamsmetagame today has evolved alot since then, not sure about singles even though I rarely sees any top player going for DI tricks (except maybe one, that I know people underates due to low nationals attendence, and that is clearly one of 3 players that you can see compete for the top spot.

One thing people where better at before, was that pressuring someone out of their "safety spacing game" and hit them>KO, which clearly if the players get a few months to get in technical shape again could cause a metagameshift today IMO, the spacing game today was just the basics before.

even though tech skill has evolved, the mental aspect hasn't. if you got read, even back in 07, they knew how to kill you. they can still bait and punish, so i think the real metagame hasn't changed THAT much.

However, the number of options used, the speed of which they are executed and higher punishes means that less reads are required nowadays, but they are harder to get.
