Hmmm, this should be interesting then.

Maybe I'll be lucky enough to have to fight him for my first match.

Hopefully they'll just make all gigs melee from now on.

Brawl rocks for those of us that aren't uber great at melee. like....me

But melee sure does have it's ups on brawl...like almost everything =P

They should really just have a mini melee tourney before every brawl tourney. Melee is so fast the tourney would be over in no time.

In response to gdx:

Its ridiculous that the venue that we have been playing at for almost 3 years
was taken away from us for a game that most of us would rather not play
and now we must settle for a tournament once every few months. WOW

but it wont change at all because it brings in more people

:(

well hey now, im not saying to have melee gigs only every few months. i dont see why they cant have melee gigs one saturday a month and brawl gigs a different saturday that same month. or even brawl saturday and melee sunday for a smash-packed weekend per month

im just sayin i miss brawl gigs cause its the only gigs i know.

I was suggesting that from even before the release of brawl
but gigabits didnt seem interested or they had too many events to give two weekend dates to smash.
That would be kind of unfair to all the other games that they have tourneys for.

I mean im not gonna get pissy if we continue to have it this way it will just mean that smashers from different regions are going to see less of each other since it will be restricted to probably zp/ houses in the south and random house tournies in cfl. House tournies arnt very big so most people wouldnt travel 4 hours for one.

with gigs we knew at least 40 people would show so it wasnt a big deal.

Actually gigs runs a lot of tourneys other than smash, even so, they probably just want to limit it to one smash a month. I thought gigs said when brawl came out that melee tournaments would end, and they did, but the fact that this one is here could mean that more will come in the future, and maybe they will expand to multiple smashes per month.

I'd totally disagree with you before brawl existed. Melee tournaments in general usually lasted forever. But oh gawd, in comparison to brawl they take no time at all.
Now that I think about it..thats really sad :[
Usually the reason was that smash tournaments for some reason always had to do some sort of round robin pools to make the players happy. Not many other fighting game tournies actually do this as I know.
But lots of people on smashboards obviously want to play melee more. So it should definantly take higher priority than brawl in anything.

Lots of people want to play brawl as well.
They should be ran side by side.
Hungrybox stepped it up at FAST by holding a melee side tourney during brawl doubles.
Good **** Hbox.

afros def right

fast proved it
melee has maybe 70 entrants while brawl had more than 100

melee gigs brought in maybe 30 to 60 while brawl is bringing in 60-80 easy

brawl is just the more popular game at this point
