- ZeRo's losses to Cloud (twice), Duck Hunt, Fox, and DK were not from the best players of those characters.

ZeRo's record against Cloud is insane. He's only lost to Cloud twice despite playing MKLeo, komorikiri, Tweek, Mr.R, and Ned numerous times this year. That's a testament to ZeRo's skill and is nothing short of impressive.

Saving these for later, bc they're important.

Diddy hasn't been bad for Rosa since the hoo-hah days. It's always been considered Even or Rosa wins since then.

Cloud though...

One thing I really liked was how Dabuz and KEN specifically punished Cloud's Dair through Pivot Grabs, Dash attacks from the side, Rosa's invincible up smash, or disjointed attacks like Rosa Utilt. I think more people could do that.

Nakat used vs K9 and won the set with him so I would add him.


Dabuz at this tournament was just playing so well. He is one of the few players I have seen successfully edgeguard Zero multiple times in a set.

Idk why, but upon seeing this, I just immediately thought of a good discussion question.

It might have been asked before, but considering the above quote, plus Dabuz and Fatality's runs at Civil War, plus Fatality at Momocon, I have to ask:
What do you guys think of the phrase "having momentum"? Does it mean the odds of a player with it doing very well increases? Is it different from consistency? Can momentum, or a lack of momentum, affect how players play a set, and influence who wins and who loses?

I've started to lose my opinion that Bayo is the best character in the game. Rather than trying to find a #1, I just think there's a few characters that share the spot together. Characters like Diddy Rosa Sheik Cloud Bayo, and you could possibly extend that to characters like Mario. They all have weaknesses and losing MUs, none of them really stand out about the rest.

I'm sure you could segregate it more by results, but results are more about which characters have the best players rather than how good the characters actually are.

KEN has always done well vs Cloud, his spacing around all of cloud's aerials and whiff punish game is beyond amazing, not to mention he 3-0ed the best cloud in the world and beats the 2nd best one on a consistent basis. Tbh all of that is KEN being OP, no sonic is even near his level tbh.

Cloud Dair definitely isn't bad, fast Oos, sweetspot kills/spikes, sourspot lingers forever with a lot of range and sets up kills. It's just not really good as an approach vs a grounded opponent and should be use predominantly to punish aerial approaches either through a whiff edsword swing bait, ledge option or a jump to challenge clouds platform camp. It has counterplay for sure which goes in line with how to deal with most of clouds kit, so overuse of dair will go out of the metagame soon.

Rosalina has done fine against for a very long time, ever since Hoo-Hah was nerfed. If anything, it would be more believable to say that she has an advantage/beats Diddy. It's an even MU at worst, though IMO I still feel she has a minor advantage. Her patient playstyle means she isn't forced to play Diddy's game, which is exactly what he wants in most cases. His weight and physics also make him a bit of a sucker to Uthrow Uair combos. He's one of the characters where at around 70%, it's rather easy to get Rosalina's late Uair from an Uthrow (the part where characters barely get launched); hitting this allows her to confirm her 2nd Uair, which can potentially KO.

Monkey Flip (Kick) is rather good at getting rid of Luma though, and the sooner Diddy's start using this at close range, the easier the MU will become. If used at long distance, while it still gets rid of Luma, he can be punished for it.

The MU has been on the rise for a while. Rosalina has her own stuff to perform against Cloud which he must now fear; the discovery of F/Bthrow into Nair (Luma first then the late hit Rosalina) to hit Cloud offstage at sub 20% and then catching his jump back onstage to gimp him means Cloud has something to fear at lower percent now. Star Bits is more than enough to catch Cloud if he doesn't ledge sweetspot too, putting him into the 50 frames no ledgegrab thing, which can be punished with Dtilt to gimp him.

Tbh, this MU isn't as bad as it's made out to be. While Cloud has enough tools to get rid of Luma, most of them can be punished. The only times I would say it's really quite annoying/bad would be on Battlefield and Dreamland (slightly more the former), when it's actually quite hard to land, and you're forced to go to the ledge. Getting off the ledge is the main issue with this MU tbh. If Cloud plays it right, you either lose Luma straight away, get pushed back off stage, or eat some fair damage getting back on. Once Rosalina's ledge options VS Cloud get developed more, the MU might become closer to even, or at least have something to be argued for being overcome.

Rage Rosalina's Uair combos on Cloud are quite effective though. If Cloud doesn't KO her, he has to start playing a little more careful (unless it's Battlefield), especially if he keeps his Limit (more susceptible to combos due to fall speed etc).

I'd still argue that this MU is a minor advantage for Cloud, like a 45:55 Rosalina:Cloud, but I could see it being even in time.

It's funny; I remember being shot down a few months back for suggesting that this MU could be close/potentially even. I mean, it's not like I actually use Rosalina myself or anything.

Time is a strange thing.

At certain points, it seemed impossible for ZeRo to get rid of Luma. I don't know how Diddy is supposed to, especially against a Dabuz who seems like he's mastered the MU. Every option seems so unsafe. And Monkey Flip proved useless since he couldn't press Dabuz back consistently enough for it to be effective.

EDIT: Yikarur - he knows. But there's no hitbox to cover him on the grab attack, so it's likely less safe if you KNOW they're going to be jabbing or something.

Monkey Flip sux, Diddy can't rely on the Rosa not reacting to it that often.

The Kick works at the correct range; up close. If Diddy smash kicks when he's up close, that works and Rosalina struggles to punish it.

What makes this move come into it's own though is if the Diddy edge cancels the Monkey Flip. It's actually quite annoying to deal with if he manages to space it so he edge cancels it off a platform or the ledge. Simply using the move and going from one point of the stage to the other (such as from the ledge to center stage) doesn't make it hugely effective.

But I did forget that the attack from the command grab portion is also enough; I remembered this after trying to catch up with the sets today.

The fact Diddy's Fair doesn't reliably knock Luma away at low percents too isn't great, as you can literally just hold shield; if he SH instant Fairs, you can jab him out of it, and if he decides to fast fall before using Fair, that's a free OoS move or even a grab. Bair is better than Fair if only because of it's ability to actually knock Luma back, but also it's speed gives it a niche too, which can prevent Rosalina getting too close at the same time.

When the Diddy relys on the command grab of the Flip too much, it's not very good and can be predicted and punished, but it's when you insert the layers of Fair and Bair to condition shielding and such that it starts to become a very good option, much like any command grab. I didn't see ZeRo doing much of this during his WF's set with Dabuz (when I watch the other two GF's sets, I can see if anything changes).

In general what I am seeing from the first set though is that Dabuz was doing a fantastic job at catching and punishing ZeRo's options when he was in the air. Be it waiting for the airdodge, or following his Monkey Flip, Dabuz was there. Super on point.

Rosa still isn't the best character.

Monkey flip's a slow command grab at frame 20. Diddy's neutral being so versatile and good makes it viable as a mix up, like Bowserboy3 was talking about. It's not that Monkey flip is a bad move, it's a mobility burst command grab that can turn into a kick and has several options from the grab. It's just not something you can spam in neutral.

Well his Bayo does work well for him in Japan for sure. He seems to have less confidence in his Bayo over in the West.
Besides I dont know what got into Charliedaking at ARMS Saga necuase he was just playing extremely well regardless and got quite a few uspesr. He also beat NAKAT, 3-0'd Kameme and almost reverse 3-0'd ZeRo. So It was not like Aba just completely dropping the ball

Did they release the scores this time? On the PG2 version Bayo was placed above Diddy because someone gave 1/10's to 98% of the cast.
